India must scale up its manufacturing sector and establish its own robust supply chain, which will subsequently boost exports, the official added.
Kolkata, July 28 (PTI) A top Ministry of External Affairs official on Monday emphasised the importance of partnerships to accelerate India's economic growth.
Speaking at a session organised by the Merchants' Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) here, Ravi said the GDP of the country is growing.
'We are USD 4 trillion economy now. The country needs to grow at more than the current average growth rate of 6.5 per cent per annum to become a developed economy to meet that target', he added.
He said the country has moved from a command economy to a liberalised economy.
'The openness had brought a boom in the economy. The private sector has leapt forward. The country also needs to do a lot', he added.
Touching upon technological transformation, Ravi said the world has moved from the industrial revolution to an era driven by artificial intelligence (AI).
'We have entered an AI-driven era. Today, we talk about responsible AI. Rules are needed so that human values are not undermined,' he added.
'India needs to create an AI ecosystem, which requires state intervention to ensure uninterrupted power supply,' he said.
On the issue of logistics, Ravi stressed the need to bring down costs.
'India's logistics cost is 12 per cent of GDP. This must be reduced to boost efficiency. Our industry needs to conquer overseas markets,' he said.
Regarding Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), Ravi said they should be seen beyond exports and imports and valued at economic cooperation. PTI dc MNB

Delhi Police bans use of aerial platforms ahead of Independence Day celebrations
New Delhi, Aug 2 (PTI) Delhi Police Commissioner SBK Singh on Saturday ordered a ban on sub-conventional aerial platforms across the national capital from August 2 to August 16 in view of security preparations related to the upcoming Independence Day. According to the order, flying aerial devices such as paragliders, para-motors, hang-gliders, UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles), UASs (Unmanned Aircraft Systems), microlight aircraft, hot air balloons, small-sized powered aircraft, quadcopters, and remotely piloted aircraft has been banned under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023. The order said that such aerial platforms may pose a threat to public safety, VIPs, and critical installations in Delhi during the sensitive period around August 15. This is Singh's first order as the new Delhi Police Commissioner. The ban is aimed at preventing their possible misuse by anti-social and terrorist elements, including for para-jumping or launching airborne attacks. The prohibition will remain in force for 15 days, starting from August 2 and ending on August 16, unless withdrawn earlier, the order said. Security agencies are already on high alert across the capital as preparations for the 78th Independence Day event at the Red Fort are underway. NEW DELHI: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has denied a request from the Save Nimisha Priya International Action Council to send a five-member delegation to Yemen to negotiate the release of Nimisha Priya, the Indian nurse facing a death sentence in the war-torn country. In a formal communication, the MEA cited serious security concerns, the absence of diplomatic relations with the authorities in Sana'a, and a recent Supreme Court directive which held that such negotiations must be conducted solely between Priya's family and the family of the Yemeni victim. 'The Indian Embassy in Yemen has been relocated to Riyadh due to the disturbed security situation,' the MEA said. 'The Ministry is concerned about the delegation's safety and well-being.
