Kim Kardashian 's $4M ring heist ends in verdict — but one walks free
A French court handed down a conviction on Friday for the jewel thieves who, in 2016, held the American reality TV star Kim Kardashian at gunpoint and then stole her engagement ring, which was worth $4 million, along with other items of her personal property.
There were ten individuals detained on suspicion of involvement in the theft that occurred in Paris. The millionaire celebrity was tied up by thieves disguising themselves as law enforcement officers and wearing ski masks. They then stole the ring, which had been presented to her by her ex-husband, the rapper Kanye West, who is now known as Ye, along with other jewelry.
Kardashian went to Paris to testify earlier this month, during which she revealed to the judge that she had been under the impression that she was going to pass away.

An additional defendant was found guilty of unlawful weapons charges, while eight of the ten defendants were found guilty of crimes directly related to the theft by the panel of judges and jurors that was comprised of both male and female members. One individual was found not guilty.
Aomar Ait Khedache, who is 69 years old and was the mastermind behind the robbery, received a sentence of three years in prison. The penalties that were handed out were the harshest possible punishments for the five offenders who participated directly in the fraud.

The judicial decision was accepted by Kardashian, according to her legal representatives.
My sincere appreciation goes out to the French authorities for their efforts to bring about justice in this matter. According to a statement that she released, "The crime was the most terrifying experience of my life, leaving an impact that will last for the rest of my life and for my family." "While I'll never forget what happened, I believe in the power of growth and accountability and pray for healing for all."
During her court appearance, she stated that she had the ability to forgive Khedache, who had sent a letter requesting forgiveness.

Eurostar trains resume operations after major cable theft
Eurostar has resumed normal operations after a large-scale theft of signal cable in northern France severely disrupted services between the UK and mainland Europe, stranding thousands of travelers and sparking concerns about potential sabotage. The incident unfolded early Wednesday when 600 meters of essential signaling cable was discovered either stolen or deliberately severed near Lille Europe station, a critical hub linking London with Paris, Brussels, and Amsterdam. The damage prompted widespread delays and cancellations, with passengers advised to cancel or postpone their journeys. 'Due to the theft, our trains were likely to be subject to severe delays and last-minute cancellations,' Eurostar said in a morning alert to customers. 'Our stations are very busy, and we advise you to cancel or postpone your trip.' Eurostar offered full refunds and free exchanges as technicians rushed to the scene. By the afternoon, a team of 15 engineers had completed emergency repairs, and services slowly began returning to normal. The disruption triggered chaos at London's St Pancras station, where confused and frustrated passengers gathered, many unsure of the status of their trips. 'It has been a nightmare. It's been pretty shocking,' said Ed, a 41-year-old renewable energy worker who was traveling with his colleague Paul, 37, to a meeting in Paris. 'The app basically said: 'Your journey is being disrupted', but they didn't say: 'Your train is definitely cancelled', so it's been quite confusing and we're wondering if we will still get our money back.' A couple in their 70s from Coventry, whose holiday plans were thrown into disarray, described waiting all day for updates. 'We had our train cancelled this morning and we've been waiting most of the day for Eurostar to make alternative arrangements,' they said, adding that they were planning to fly to Spain from Gatwick instead. By 4 PM, some semblance of order had returned to the station, with one train to Brussels departing with only a 35-minute delay. French police have launched a formal investigation. Forensic teams were deployed near Mont-de-Terre station, where the theft occurred along tracks between Lille and Lezennes. The French regional rail network, TER Hauts-de-France, confirmed that cable specialists worked throughout the day to install replacements. According to SNCF, the national rail operator, the repairs required reconnecting approximately 15 wires within each cable, 'meticulous work,' a spokesperson noted. The disruption comes on the heels of another incident in the Netherlands, where a power outage affecting around 30 rail cables disrupted service near Schiphol Airport, just 50km from the NATO summit in The Hague. Dutch Justice Minister David van Weel suggested the possibility of sabotage, telling reporters: 'The question is who is behind it. It can be an activist group, it can be a country.' Wednesday's incident follows a deadly Tuesday on the same Lille-Paris route, when two unrelated fatalities led to day-long shutdowns. Similar rail sabotage was reported in Spain last month, where stolen signal cable disrupted tens of thousands of journeys during a busy holiday weekend. As investigations continue, security concerns are mounting around key infrastructure, particularly with international events such as the NATO summit drawing geopolitical attention.

Top drug lord and Assad cousin arrested in Damascus sting operation
ALBAWABA - An official statement made Saturday says that Wasim al-Assad, a cousin of the former President Bashar al-Assad, was arrested by Syrian intelligence forces working with the Ministry of Interior in what was called a "tightly planned ambush." Also Read Iran hacks Israeli home security cameras in intelligence operation The Ministry said that al-Assad was captured as part of a larger effort to bring justice to the people of Syria and break up criminal networks that were still active during the Assad era. Al-Assad was long thought to be one of the country's most notorious drug traffickers and a key figure in a number of serious crimes that happened while the regime was in power. Al-Assad was being watched closely by the rest of the world. In 2023, both the U.S. Treasury and the European Union put sanctions on him because he was part of a large-scale drug dealing network in the area that helped pay for the former government. In addition to his work in the drug trade, Wasim al-Assad was in charge of a militia group in the coastal city of Latakia. This group was accused of many crimes against citizens, such as putting down large protests in the early years of the Syrian uprising. In the days before the government fell on December 8, 2024, al-Assad wrote on Facebook that armed support units would be formed in Latakia and the nearby areas to help the military. This showed how actively he was involved in helping the regime in its last days. After Bashar al-Assad's government fell, the Syrian government began a national crackdown on people they thought were guilty of war crimes, corruption, and power abuses. People think that the arrest of Wasim al-Assad was a big step forward in that effort.

Kanye West attended Diddy's sex trafficking trial
ALBAWABA - Kanye West has shown up for the criminal trial of Sean "Diddy" Combs. "I came to the federal courthouse in Lower Manhattan to show my support for the Bad Boy Records mogul, who is accused of sex trafficking and racketeering," the rapper, dressed entirely in white and sporting sunglasses, told a reporter. Hours into Friday's court proceedings, Combs' son, Christian "King" Combs, welcomed West, who has openly backed Combs and demanded his acquittal, outside the courthouse. Court marshals, anticipating a possible diversion, told reporters and the public to remain silent and focused on the courtroom regardless of who entered. To watch the trial on a video link alongside Christian Combs and his bodyguards, Kanye West was led to his own overflow room, away from the jury and the media. Despite sitting in the front row and paying close attention to the feed, West reportedly left the courthouse less than 30 minutes after media and members of the public poured into the room. LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - FEBRUARY 02: Kanye West (Photo by Matt Winkelmeyer / Getty Images via AFP) West was in New York City and had contacted Christian Combs about going to the trial with Combs' family, according to a CNN report on Thursday. Reports also suggest that Kanye West and Christian have been working together on songs. One day after Combs' ex-girlfriend, "Jane," spent an incredible six days on the witness stand, claiming that Combs coerced her into engaging in lengthy, drug-fueled sex sessions with male escorts, Kanye West shows up in court. Under a false identity, Jane testified that Combs had once physically abused her in June 2024. West's name appeared on a questionnaire for prospective jurors before the start of the trial. The judge asked the jurors if they knew any of the names on a list of hundreds of celebrities and individuals in Combs' inner circle. LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - JUNE 26: Sean 'Diddy' Combs (R) (Photo by Paras Griffin / Getty Images via AFP) After Jane testified that she was in Las Vegas once in January 2024 with an unidentified rapper who is "very close" to Combs and was referred to as "an icon in the music industry," West's name also went viral on social media. Jane claimed that she was seeing a male escort have sex with a woman on the bed in a hotel room with the rapper, his boyfriend, and a few other individuals. Combs wasn't there either. When the rapper asked Jane whether she knew somebody "in this lifestyle," she suggested an adult entertainer whom she and Combs had employed, according to Jane. No one gave West a name, but after the testimony, social media rumors quickly circulated about him. For years, Kanye West has caused controversy of his own by praising Adolf Hitler and making antisemitic remarks. Combs is entering a not guilty plea to accusations of racketeering and sex trafficking. If found guilty, he could face lifelong imprisonment.
