He handed over the house keys to the mahouts and inspected one of the new houses in the village.Stalin also flagged off 32 new vehicles, which were bought at a cost of Rs2.93 crore, for the forest range officers across the state.At the elephant camp, the chief minister had a look at the food that was kept ready for the elephants.
He then watched the elephants being fed by their mahouts. Stalin also enjoyed feeding sugarcane to Bama, the oldest elephant at the camp.Stalin interacted with 44 mahouts and cavadies at the camp and took a group photo with them.Supriya Sahu, additional chief secretary, department of environment, climate change and forest, said, "The new houses are eco-friendly and in harmony with local building traditions."M Maran, a mahout, said, "We are happy to have the houses with all the basic facilities. The advantage is the houses are located close to the camp. This gesture of the govt motivates us to further indulge ourselves with the camp elephants for the betterment of the camp."Kozhikamuthi elephant camp in the Anamalai Tiger Reserve houses another 47 greenhouses for the mahouts and cavadies. Those were built at a cost of Rs4.04 crore. This housing project for the caretakers of camp elephants was announced by Stalin in March 2023 during a ceremony to felicitate the mahout couple Bomman and Bellie, who featured in the Oscar-winning short film '

77 lakh people made DMK members through Oraniyil Tamil Nadu initiative

CHENNAI: DESCRIBING Tiruvalluvar as a revolutionary poet and a rebel who expressed rational views, Chief Minister MK Stalin on Sunday said Tamils must strongly oppose any attempt to appropriate him. The CM was speaking after releasing the commentary of poet Vairamthu for Tirukkural. Former union finance minister P Chidambaram received the first copy. Charging that there are efforts to appropriate Tiruvalluvar and his ideas, Stalin said, just because there is no one among them to celebrate in the Aryan tradition, they are trying to steal Tiruvalluvar. "More than stealing, the truth is that they are attempting to deceive us. If they try to appropriate Tirukkural, the intensity of his ideas alone will scorch them," the CM added. Stating that even after 2,000 years, Tiruvalluvar's view that all beings are equal by birth remains just as necessary, Stalin said. "We must intensify efforts for making Tirukkural as India's national scripture. Further, a mega institution should be established in Delhi to propagate the greatness of Tirukkural. Also, we must engage ourselves in sowing the meaning of Tirukkural into Indian society," the CM said.

Stalin urges centre's intervention for release of 7 fishermen held by Sri Lanka
Madurai: Chief minister M K Stalin has urged the Union government to take urgent diplomatic steps to secure the release of seven Rameswaram fishermen apprehended by the Sri Lankan navy in the early hours of Sunday. In a letter to Union external affairs minister S Jaishankar, Stalin expressed concern over the recurring arrests of Tamil Nadu fishermen and called for immediate measures to end the continued harassment of those operating in the Palk Strait. "I urge the Union government to engage all available diplomatic channels to bring an end to these continued apprehensions. I further request that urgent and effective steps be taken to secure the release of all detained fishermen and their boats at the earliest," he said. Stalin also highlighted that 50 fishermen and 232 Tamil Nadu fishing vessels remain in Sri Lankan custody this year, compounding the economic and emotional hardship faced by their families. The latest incident occurred around 2 am on Sunday when a mechanised trawler (IND-TN-10-MM-746), owned by V Isaac Paul of Thangachimadam, was intercepted near Neduntheevu by the Sri Lankan navy. They were initially detained at Kankesanthurai port and later remanded to judicial custody in Jaffna prison. In a separate incident, the same morning, another mechanised boat (IND-TN-10-MM-1040), owned by Maria Seeron of Rameswaram, reportedly sustained significant damage after being hit by a Sri Lankan navy patrol vessel between Katchatheevu and Neduntheevu. However, the seven fishermen on board, Stalin, Muneeswaran, Viyakulam, Columbus, Nagesh, Stephen, and Sarath Kumar, escaped unhurt and returned safely to the Rameswaram jetty.
