Blue Devils finish off season sweep of rival Tar Heels, claim ACC regular season crown
The Blue Devils built a 15-point lead in the first half before UNC cut it down to a single point by the break.
The Tar Heels built a seven-point lead in the second half and Duke answered with a run that swung the momentum and lead back to the darker blue in an eventual 82-69 victory.
Four of Duke's five starters scored in double-figures as Kon Kneuppel led the way with 17 points. Tyrese Proctor and Sion James had 16 apiece and Cooper Flagg put up 15.
The Tar Heels were led by senior R.J. Davis' 20 points and Ven-Allen Lubin added 11 as the only other UNC player in double-figures.
The win for Duke (28-3) wraps up the ACC regular season title while UNC falls to 20-12 and will look to make a run in the ACC Tournament.

How much is UNC's football program valued at?
How much does the UNC football program cost? Thanks to the invention of NIL money and the transfer portal, college football continues to become increasingly professional by the day. UNC's 2025 offseason is a perfect illustration of the changing CFB landscape. Needing a starting quarterback for the fall, North Carolina paid $4 million to land South Alabama transfer quarterback Gio Lopez. The Tar Heels replaced their entire starting defensive line through the portal, plus added Marshall kicker Rece Verhoff. With college football now essentially a "mini-NFL," the question of selling teams comes into play. In The Athletic's recent "valuation rankings", UNC would sell for $572 million, making it the 26th-most valuable college football franchise. North Carolina is one spot behind Ole Miss, which has a $591 million price tag, plus a spot ahead of South Carolina ($563 million.) The Tar Heels generate an average $63.6 million in annual football revenue, a figure that is lowest amongst the Top 30. The portal is a great addition to college sports, particularly for senior-heavy teams needing to replace a plethora of starters, but the portal is also essentially free agency. Think about professional sports: you have franchise cornerstones, who remain on the same rosters for extended periods of time, but trades and free agency create a sense of unknown. UNC has high expectations heading into its 2025 season, thanks to hiring 8-time Super Bowl champion Bill Belichick as its next head coach. If North Carolina somehow wins the ACC and makes the College Football Playoff, its program value will shoot up closer towards SEC numbers. If the Tar Heels struggle again this fall, their value will stay the same – or even decrease. People are less likely to pay and see a losing product, which UNC proved to be again in 2024. ACC Kickoff reveals potential UNC plans to leave for another conference
UNC leaving the ACC would create enormous ripple effects. It's extremely difficult to imagine an ACC without UNC, one of the conference's original, seven founding members back in May 1953. With continued conference realignment talks, which include the ideas of "super-conferences" and dissolution of smaller ones, North Carolina leaving the ACC continues to gain traction. Steve Newmark is set to take over as the Tar Heels' athletic director in 2026, replacing longtime AD Bubba Cunningham. According to Inside Carolina, UNC to the SEC could be expedited under Newmark's future leadership. But make no mistake, now, the SEC is where the Tar Heels are aiming under the leadership of Roberts and Newmark, should UNC move to leave the ACC for another league, perhaps in the near future," InsideCarolina's Adam Smith wrote. "Sources said the 2030-31 school year, when the ACC's decreasing exit fees dip from $93 million to the flat $75 million threshold, would figure to become an important final line of demarcation, if the Tar Heels haven't made their departure sooner. Seven decades ago, UNC was one of the original member schools in the 1953 founding of the ACC." The ACC, once arguably the premier conference across collegiate athletics, is giving way to the money-loaded SEC in recent seasons. Look at the 2025 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament alone: North Carolina, Duke, Clemson and Louisville were the only four ACC teams to make it, whereas the SEC had 14 bids. Transitioning to football, the SEC is a powerhouse compared to the ACC, which is essentially Clemson and everybody else. Florida State is typically a strong program, but the Seminoles suffered through a 2-10 season in 2024, with one of their losses coming against the Tar Heels. It's no secret the ACC needs to have a monster football season, with UNC particular a team of focus. Not everyone will finish over .500, but ACC football needs to re-establish itself this fall. Kyle Filipowski becomes 1st Utah Jazz player to earn NBA Summer League MVP
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Kyle Filipowski became the first Utah Jazz player to earn most valuable player honors in the NBA Summer League on Tuesday. Filipowski, a 6-foot-11 forward out of Duke, averaged a league-leading 29.3 points per contest over three games while adding 7.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists. He shot 56.1% from the field and 39.1% from 3-point range. Advertisement His best summer league performance came against San Antonio on July 14th when he finished with 35 points and 11 rebounds. He's hoping to use his summer league experience as a springboard for the role he wants to play with the Jazz in his second NBA season. 'Obviously it's different in summer league versus (the regular season),' Filipowski said, following the third and final summer league game for the Jazz. 'I'm just trying to be myself out there right now. However that translates to the season, that's how it's going to be. I'm going to make the most of it in that way.' Filipowski appeared in 72 games in his rookie campaign with Utah, making 27 starts. He averaged 9.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 1.9 assists in 21.2 minutes per game. By season's end, Filipowski was one of only two NBA rookies to total more than 650 points, 400 rebounds and 100 assists. ___ AP NBA:
