Dwayne Johnson finally hugs Jelly Roll years after his music helped him through 'hard' time
The WWE legend turned Hollywood megastar has shared a video of the moment he finally met and hugged the Only hitmaker, whose song "moved" him around 2017 when he was "struggling" with his mental health.
Alongside a video of the pair hugging and saying they loved each other, The Rock wrote: "A brotherly hug almost 10 years in the making...
"Several years ago (roughly 2017) I was going through a very hard thing at the time, I was struggling.
"My mental wellness turned into my mental hellness. Many of you know the drill, you put on 'the face,' show up to work, smile and get through it.
"Perhaps not the healthiest thing to do, but it's what I was used to doing at the time.
"Then a song came on through my headphones one morning on a random shuffle playlist. 'Only' from Jelly Roll. The lyrics rocked me. Hard core."
In the emotional song, Jelly - who is also a huge WWE fan - sings: "What if the darkness inside of me has finally taken my soul?/What if the angels in heaven were sent to take me home?
"Would they fight through the demons that I have in my life?/Lord, I'm believing eventually see the light."
The Fast and Furious actor recalled how he was moved "so much" that he got in touch with the singer at the time, and shared how "this song of yours is helping me through some stuff I'm dealing with". and that he "just called to say thank you".
He continued: "Our bond was born."
When the pair finally met in person recently, Dwayne gave Jelly a gift which he admitted might seem "insignificant to the world", but would mean a lot to Jelly.
He gave the singer an old postcard of the former Alamo Plaza motel in South Nashville, where Jelly is from.
Dwayne explained: "When I was 15yrs I was forced (family was evicted) to leave Hawaii and make it to Nashville to live with my dad.
"That didn't work out so I wound up living with a stranger in this little spot on Murfreesboro Road that has since been torn down and no longer there.
"Downtown Bruno was that stranger's name and to this day, he's one of my best and most special friends. Just like Jelly. A very special friend."
In the Instagram video, Jelly admitted that the postcard - which was signed by The Rock - "is real old school Nashville history".
Dwayne added in the caption: "Every once in a while we all get sliced up by life, but it's amazing to see what kind of blessings and people that God and the universe will put in our lives to help us heal through our pain."

Dave Hughes has revealed he nearly got into a fight with an unruly fan who lobbed a wild Nazi slur at the Wimbledon tennis tournament. The Aussie comedian, 54, took to Instagram on Thursday to detail his run-in with the English spectator before a packed crowd on court 15. Hughes said he erupted when the fan would not stop talking as Aussie Jordan Thompson defeated Benjamin Bonzi in a thrilling five-set win. "There was this English bloke behind us he just would not shut up for, like, right through the match," the TV personality said in a video. "Eventually, I said, 'Mate, can you just be quiet?'" Hughes said the outraged spectator called him a "little Hitler" in response, to which the comedian took a dig at the fan's nationality. "I mean, they're both around us was happy that I did it," he said. "What is it with entitled English w***ers?" In the caption, Hughes said the small size of Court 15 and the nail-biting match taking place there made the rowdy fans' antics more frustrating. "Three rows of seating on court 15, within metres of the players, tense fifth set," he wrote. "And (the spectator) would not stop loudly talking to his friend as if he was down at his local boozer." "When I eventually told him to pipe down, he was livid, real 'how dare you tell me what to do you Aussie scum' vibe. "But after a long, very tense back and forth, he zipped it, and everyone was happy except him." Fans of the media personality flooded the comments with their support for the star, including one person claiming to have witnessed the standoff. "I was the row in front of you and was cheering you on!" the fan wrote. "Love that you didn't back down!! Crowd totally had your back!…he hardly said a word rest of the match!!" "Well done Hughsey! "It seems like almost everyone is on my side here," he told in March. "I don't wanna kick people out, but if they refuse to stop talking, there's no other choice! 50 Cent has led a wave of celebrity reaction to the acquittal of Sean 'Diddy' Combs on sex trafficking and racketeering charges, describing him as 'the Gay John Gotti' in a social media post that has sparked widespread backlash. Curtis Jackson, 48, posted a mocked-up AI image of himself to Instagram after Wednesday's (02.07.25) verdict, writing: 'Diddy beat the Feds that boy a bad man! Beat the Rico, he the Gay John Gotti.' The comment drew instant criticism, with followers accusing the rapper of homophobia and celebrating a legal outcome involving serious allegations of abuse. 'By coming forward with her experience, Cassie has left an indelible mark on both the entertainment industry and the fight for justice. 'We must repeat — with no reservation — that we believe and support our client who showed exemplary courage throughout this trial.' Combs, who has not been seen in public since his arrest in September 2024, remains in custody at Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center. Prosecutors said they intend to seek the maximum 20-year sentence. His legal team has requested release on $1m bail ahead of sentencing, which has not yet been scheduled.
