BJP opposed earlier caste report, why is it opposing re-survey: DKS
'The BJP was opposed to the earlier caste census citing data sanctity issues. We have announced a redo of the census, but the BJP is still opposing this too,' he asked while talking speaking to reporters here.
Asked about BJP criticising the decision to reconduct the caste census, he said, 'The BJP did not accept the earlier caste census report, why the opposition now when we are trying to address the concerns? We are not rejecting the earlier census, we are only trying to correct the shortcomings of the earlier survey in order to allay concerns of several communities.'
Asked if the survey would be conducted in a scientific manner this time, he said, 'The modalities would be discussed in the Cabinet meeting. Several communities including Lambanis, Jains, Bestha communities had met me and raised concerns on the earlier survey. The previous survey was also done scientifically through door-to-door visits, but some of the people were hesitant to share their caste details. Our national leaders have given us certain guidelines. AICC President too has given us many suggestions. The CM will discuss this in the Cabinet meeting and take a decision.'
To a question if the government gave in to the pressure from powerful communities, he said, 'We have yielded to the pressures from all communities. We have yielded to the pressure from the media too.'
Asked if it was D K Shivakumar's victory in convincing the High command for a resurvey, he said there was no winner or loser in this matter. Asked if there was a need for the state to reconduct the caste census when the Centre has announced a caste census along with the general census, he said, 'This is our Party's agenda, the BJP has copied it. Rahul Gandhi has always been advocating proportionate representation for the backward classes.'

PM visit sets stage for AIADMK-BJP bonhomie
Trichy: Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit and road show planned in Trichy on Sunday have set the stage for cadres and functionaries of AIADMK and BJP to smoothen out ruffles, if any, and work together ahead of the 2026 state assembly election. As BJP cadres have been joining AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami's ongoing 'Makkalai Kappom, Thamizhagathai Meetpom' state-wide campaign, AIADMK has vouched to mobilise cadres for PM's road show scheduled on Sunday morning. Palaniswami met Modi at the Trichy airport on his arrival from Tuticorin. He was accompanied by former ministers S P Velumani, K P Munusamy, and Natham Viswanathan. Modi is scheduled to take part in a commemorative event to mark Rajendra Chola's birth anniversary and 1,000 years of the king's maritime expedition to southeast Asia at the ancient Gangaikonda Cholapuram temple in Ariyalur district. Licence Rules Set To Ease Further
New Delhi: The Centre, in a bid to boost the ease of doing business in Delhi, has asked the lieutenant governor to roll out reforms to deregulate licensing requirements so that a single-window clearance system can be made to position the capital as an "investment destination". Among the key proposals is scrapping the need for health trade, general trade and factory licences that are issued by MCD and NDMC to establishments across the city. The Centre has also recommended that businesses already registered under GST or FSSAI be exempted from registering separately under the Shops and Establishment Act, which is administered by Delhi govt's labour department. Sources said that the Centre has described these as "low-hanging fruits" that can be quickly "fructified" through executive orders or notifications, without the need to amend existing laws. The push comes days after LG VK Saxena cleared a proposal withdrawing Delhi Police's powers to issue licences to seven categories of businesses — swimming pools, eateries, hotels, guest houses, discotheques, video game parlours, amusement parks and auditoriums. Officials said a presentation was recently made to the Prime Minister, showcasing reforms already initiated by the LG to simplify business rules. While appreciating Saxena's efforts, the PM asked officials to ensure traders are no longer caught in red tape while setting up shop. The deregulation cell, officials said, studied various laws and held rounds of meetings with officers from Delhi govt, MCD, NDMC, DDA, RERA and the Union housing and urban affairs ministry to map the regulatory maze caused by overlapping agency powers. The final recommendations were shaped by these deliberations and by looking at best practices in other states. One of the reforms — exempting GST- or FSSAI-registered businesses from mandatory Shops and Establishment Act registration — can be implemented via a labour department notification, officials said. Acknowledging the LG's push to ease the licensing framework, the cell has advised doing away with health trade, general trade and factory licences issued under Delhi Municipal Corporation Act, 1957. These, it said, can be eliminated through a simple LG notification stating that registration under GST, FSSAI or the Factories Act would suffice. Since parts of the capital fall under NDMC jurisdiction, the deregulation cell has recommended a similar notification under the NDMC Act, 1994, too. To streamline the process, the cell has suggested designating either MCD or NDMC as the nodal agency for all business-related licences. It has proposed that applicants be required to visit only one office for all approvals. It further recommended transferring powers to issue FSSAI and weights and measures licences to the civic agency and designating the MCD commissioner or NDMC chairperson as commissioner of food safety and controller of legal metrology. "Any other licence for commercial activity currently handled by Delhi govt should also be brought under MCD to ensure a single point of contact," the cell said. It added that these changes would help build a genuine single-window clearance system. LG has been advised to bring all stakeholders — MCD, NDMC, FSSAI, GST, ESIC, EPF, fire services and DPCC — on to a common platform. "MCD or NDMC should not merely act as a post office, but coordinate with these agencies to ensure time-bound delivery of licences," the cell said.
