The first phase of the Navi Mumbai International Airport is expected to be operational by September, Industries Minister Uday Samant informed the Legislative Assembly earlier, Hindustan Times reported.
The Navi Mumbai airport's inauguration, initially slated for late August, has been slightly delayed and is now expected to take place in September.
'About 95% of the construction work is complete. The airport will begin operations within the next two months," Samant said, adding that initial services will commence with limited capacity.
The second phase of the airport is expected to be rolled out a few months after the first becomes functional.
Speaking at the Western Region Ministers' Conference on Civil Aviation, Fadnavis said the towers were hampering the redevelopment of residential buildings in north Mumbai.
'The land to shift the radar has been provided, as has the money. If it is required to be placed before the cabinet, then do so, and if it can be done at your level, then do it. If it is shifted, it will benefit 10 lakh middle-class people who will be able to carry out redevelopment, which is currently stuck on account of the radars. I appeal to your team to visit the two plots and select whichever is suitable," he said.
Fadnavis raised the issue of constructing an offshore airport during the Vadhavan port groundbreaking ceremony in Palghar.
'An agency has been appointed to prepare the detailed project report, and it will be Mumbai's third airport. We want to begin work on it by 2026," he said.
Fadnavis credited PM Narendra Modi for speeding up permissions for the Navi Mumbai airport, noting it's nearing completion and will play a key role in cargo handling, alongside Pune and Nagpur airports.

8th Pay Commission: What Is The 12-Year Commuted Pension Demand And Why It Matters

Last Updated: The Centre announced the 8th Pay Commission for over 1 crore employees and pensioners. What the report says on the expected implementation timeline. 8th Pay Commission: The 8th Pay Commission is likely to take effect from January 1, 2026, paving the way for a salary hike for lakhs of central government employees and pensioners. The government announced the 8th Pay Commission on January 16, 2025. However, the formal appointment of its chairperson, members, and the issuance of detailed Terms of Reference (ToR) are yet to be finalised. Other than that, employees and pensioners have a major pending demand for the upcoming 8th pay commission. They are hoping that the commission will reduce the commuted pension to 12 years from 15 years, offering a big relief against the rising medical and inflationary costs. The National Council (JCM) – Staff Side, which represents central government employees, has sent a list of demands to the government, according to a report of Financial Express. The 12-year restoration is one of the top issues in that list. This point was also raised during the SCOVA (Standing Committee on Voluntary Agencies) meeting held on March 11, 2025, which was chaired by the Minister of State for Personnel. What Is Commuted Pension? At the time of retirement, employees have the flexibility to take a portion of their monthly pension in a lump-sum amount. The government will then deduct that portion from their pension every month to recover the amount. This is called commutation. Right now, the deduction continues for 15 years, after which the full pension is restored. Why Is There A Demand To Reduce To 12 Years? Unions and Pensioners argue that 15 years is too much given the rising medical costs and living expenses. With the drop of interest rates, retirees, they argue, lose a good part of their pension money. view comments First Published: July 13, 2025, 14:26 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Karnataka HC Seeks Govt's Reply On Kannada Mandate In CBSE, ICSE Schools

Parents and teachers allege that the state government is indirectly pressuring CBSE and CISCE schools to adopt Kannada by using regulatory mechanisms like NOCs. The Karnataka High Court has instructed the state government to explain within three months why Kannada should be a mandatory subject in CBSE and CISCE-affiliated schools. This directive was issued during the hearing of a public interest litigation (PIL) challenging this decision. The division bench, comprising Acting Chief Justice V. Kameswara Rao and Justice C.M. Joshi, expressed dissatisfaction with the government for not responding so far. The court remarked that the government has been inactive for two years. If this continues, the court may consider granting interim relief to the petitioners. The petition disputes the mandate for compulsory teaching of Kannada as a first or second language in CBSE and CISCE schools, as stipulated by the Karnataka Language Teaching Act, 2015, and its related rules established in 2017. The petitioners argued that this decision infringes on the freedom of language choice, potentially impacting students' academic freedom and teachers' employment. According to the rules, schools failing to comply risk having their NOC (No Objection Certificate) revoked, jeopardizing their recognition. The petitioners contend that students should have the right to choose their first, second, and third languages. They believe that enforcing Kannada could affect students' future prospects, especially those preparing for competitive exams or studying in other states. The petition also highlights concerns that teachers unable to teach Kannada may face employment challenges due to the new language policy. Parents and teachers allege that the state government is indirectly pressuring CBSE and CISCE schools to adopt Kannada by using regulatory mechanisms like NOCs. They argue that this could set a dangerous precedent against academic freedom and parental choice. The court has given the state government three months to respond. The next hearing will occur only after this period. For now, the court has adjourned the case. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Mayasabha OTT Release Date: When And Where To Watch Aadhi Pinisetty's Political Drama Online

Mayasabha, a Telugu political web series starring Aadhi Pinisetty and Chaitanya Rao, streams on SonyLIV from August 7. Here's all you need to know. The stage is set for a powerful new political saga as Mayasabha, a Telugu-language web series headlined by Aadhi Pinisetty and Chaitanya Rao, gears up for its OTT debut on SonyLIV. The show will begin streaming from August 7, 2025, and is already generating buzz for its intense premise, compelling cast, and bold political parallels. Set in the politically charged landscape of Andhra Pradesh in the 1990s, Mayasabha traces the rise and fallout of two dynamic political figures—Kakarla Krishnama Naidu and MS Rami Reddy—whose friendship gives way to a fierce rivalry that ultimately defines the political direction of the state. The teaser, unveiled by SonyLIV, sets the tone for a gripping tale of power, ideology, and ambition. 'A Story of Two Great Friends, Turned into Political Rivals, that became Story of the State," read the post that announced the show's release date. Speculation is rife that the series draws inspiration from the real-life political rivalry between former Andhra Pradesh Chief Ministers N. Chandrababu Naidu and the late Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy. Although the makers haven't officially confirmed this, the storyline and character dynamics strongly reflect their political trajectories. Reports also hinted at Naga Chaitanya being part of the project at one point, though the final cast features Aadhi Pinisetty and Chaitanya Rao in the leads. Mayasabha boasts a robust ensemble cast that includes Divya Dutta, Sai Kumar, Srikanth Iyengar, Nassar, Tanya Ravichandran, Ravindra Vijay, and Shatru, among others. The show is directed by acclaimed filmmaker Deva Katta, who makes his OTT debut with this series. Known for films like Prasthanam and Autonagar Surya, Katta brings his signature storytelling flair to the small screen, promising a gripping political thriller layered with emotion and realism. For Aadhi Pinisetty, this marks an important turn in his career after the critical success of Sabdham. He is also set to appear as the antagonist in the upcoming Akhanda 2 alongside Nandamuri Balakrishna. With its sharp political commentary and human drama, Mayasabha is expected to be a standout addition to the growing library of regional content on OTT platforms.
