SIBU (June 15): Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Clarence Ting has called on all council staff to give their full support to the acting secretary Sait Enggang, who steps into the role following the retirement of former secretary Yong Ing Chu.
Ting emphasized that such cooperation is vital to maintain SMC's strong performance in service delivery and in meeting public expectations.
'I would like to welcome our new acting secretary, with whom we will be working very closely. This is particularly important as SMC undergoes a leadership transition,' said Ting during the council's 'Ngiling Bidai' ceremony, held at Permai Lake Garden Food Court on Saturday night.
'I hope everyone will extend the same support to Encik Sait as you did to Mr Yong. Without strong teamwork, we won't be able to perform as effectively,' he told the staff present at the gathering.
Ting also expressed his hope that the gathering would strengthen the bond among staff and reignite their motivation to serve the people with dedication and integrity.
He added that the ngiling bidai ceremony symbolised the council's unity, inclusivity, and deep appreciation for cultural heritage.
Ting also conveyed his gratitude to Councillor Augustine Merikan, who chaired the event's organising committee, along with the entire organising team for their efforts in making the event a success. Clarence Ting public service Sait Enggang sibu municipal council

320 households in Rejang Park receive reimbursement for septic tank self-installation

(From sixth right, back row) Tiang and Ting take a group photo with recipients. – Photo by Peter Boon SIBU (July 20): A total of RM960,000 was disbursed to 320 households in Rejang Park here, with each receiving RM3,000 as reimbursement for the self-installation of septic tanks. State Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Michael Tiang presented the cheques to the recipients at the Rejang Park commercial centre here yesterday, and he thanked Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for approving the reimbursement. 'This was my proposal, and he approved it. We are really thankful to our Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg,' Tiang told reporters. In recounting the timeline leading up to today's event, the Pelawan assemblyman referred back to 2015 when he was approached by the public regarding the long-standing issues with septic tanks. He recalled that at the time, the residential homes in Rejang Park and the commercial district were linked by an underground central sewage system. He said the centralised system built in the 1970s had somehow begun to fall apart, impacting toilets of the affected house owners and leading to extremely poor hygiene conditions. 'Consequently, they reached out to me to see if I could help. We conducted surveys of houses, gathering data, taking photographs, and even collecting petitions from the residents. This information was then submitted to the then Chief Minister, (the late) Tok Nan (Pehin Sri Adenan Satem). 'In 2018, our Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, visited Sibu for the general election. During his visit, I discussed this project with him, explaining that we needed RM3 million to address 345 houses and 32 commercial lots. He agreed, recognizing the urgency of the situation, and said this was something we had to do immediately,' he said. Tiang said that however, the onset of Covid-19 pandemic affected the progress of the project. He appreciated the efforts of Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) in assisting with the project. 'We completed the project. But then, still many of the residents came to me and asked for assistance. I said, okay, let me try after I get elected, so that I have more right to ask for this from you. 'In 2021, I achieved that goal and was elected. Since then, I have remained committed to this mission. But it took me three years to find the right way to do this, to find this reimbursement subsidy. 'Last year, I once again reached out to our Premier. Thankfully, our Premier was gracious enough to approve it once more. This allowed me to provide a subsidy of RM3,000 to each (of the 320) household (in Rejang Park). 'This morning, we managed to cover 320 homes. After a decade-long journey, I can say with gratitude that this chapter is now complete. Mission accomplished, and all thanks to our Premier.' Tiang added: 'He (Abang Johari) genuinely cares about the issues people face, even at this level. I'm thrilled about this transformative project that has significantly improved the residents' quality of life here. 'It has established a very clean and supportive commercial setting for all the businesspeople in this area. I'm truly delighted,' he said. Seize the moment: PBK tells GPS to push for full MA63 implementation amid federal instability

Ting says the ruling coalition in Sarawak should leverage the current advantage of 'timing, geography, and unity' to pressure the federal government into meaningful action. MIRI (July 18): Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) has called on Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to seize the current national political turbulence as an opportunity to restore Sarawak's rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63). PBK Miri Division chairman and Supreme Council organising secretary Leslie Ting Siong Ngiap said the ruling coalition in Sarawak should leverage the current advantage of 'timing, geography, and unity' to pressure the federal government into meaningful action. In a statement yesterday, Ting highlighted the upcoming MA63 Implementation Action Council meeting, scheduled for Sept 12, 2025, during which Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is expected to make decisions on Sarawak's demands under the agreement. 'I call on GPS to use its support for Anwar as a bargaining chip to demand the unconditional return of Sarawak's rights and sovereignty as outlined in MA63. The outcome of the September 12 meeting could bring good news for Sarawak,' he said. As such, he said GPS should press for constitutional guarantees based on MA63 and the 1962 Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC) Report to restore Sarawak's entitlement to one-third of parliamentary seats. He argued that this approach would be 'far more effective and realistic' than the Sarawak United Peoples' Party (SUPP) leadership's view that increasing state seats would pave the way for more parliamentary representation. The PBK leader cited recent political instability in Peninsular Malaysia ― including federal government crises, internal conflicts among peninsular parties, and movements to oust the Prime Minister ― as creating a favourable window for Sarawak. 'The Sarawak Government should seize this rare alignment of timing, geography, and unity to apply pressure and demand unconditional implementation of MA63, including the return of Sarawak's ownership over natural resources, sovereignty in education, healthcare, and taxation, and the constitutional increase of Sarawak's parliamentary seats,' Ting said. He pointed to the current national political landscape, which has been rocked by allegations of judicial interference against the Prime Minister, with multiple parties demanding his resignation and calling for a Royal Commission of Inquiry. Former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has also urged Members of Parliament to table a vote of no confidence against Anwar in the Dewan Rakyat, increasing the likelihood of such a motion in the upcoming parliamentary session and putting the unity government at risk. Ting also noted the fallout with former PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, who along with eight other PKR backbenchers, has reportedly criticised the Prime Minister, threatening to destabilise Anwar's leadership and the Madani Government. He argued that if the nine MPs withdrew their support, the government's parliamentary majority would shrink from 153 to 144 seats, positioning GPS with its 22 seats as kingmaker once again. 'This would put GPS in the position of holding the key to Anwar's survival as Prime Minister,' Ting said. Anwar has met with Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in Putrajaya on July 14, underscoring the importance of close and strategic collaboration between federal and state governments, particularly with Sabah and Sarawak. 'This clearly reflects Anwar's urgent need for Sarawak's support to stabilise his position and preserve his administration.' gps lead MA63 PBK seize the moment

Of the total, RM1.55 million was disbursed to 137 recipients under the Special Project Allocation (PPK), while another RM660,000 went to 15 recipients under the Special Allocation by Minister (PKM). Tiong, who is also Bintulu MP and Dudong assemblyman, was represented by his special duties officer Agatha Ting during the cheque presentation ceremony held at the United Chinese Association (UCA) Sibu hall. In delivering his speech through Ting, Tiong reminded all recipients that public funds must not be wasted or used for personal gain. 'I hope these funds will be used properly and not just for the sake of spending, but to truly benefit the community. 'Every sen must go for something meaningful, not wasted or personal advantages,' he said. He added that recipients are required to submit a full report on how the funds are used as a condition for any future support. 'So you must submit your report. If there's no report, how can you get another round of support? 'I want to help, but you must also do your part. Be accountable. Only then I can continue to justify giving more funding to support your organisations,' he said. Aside from the cheque allocations, five laptops and printers were presented to longhouse residents, along with 10 hampers for local youth members. Also in attendance were Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Dudong Division chairman Datuk Teo Boon Siew and PDP Pelawan chairman Datuk Lau Cheng Kiong. funds Sibu Tiong King Sing
