Michigan State football is listed as a bottom half team in the Big Ten following spring practice, according to one 247Sports' writer.
Carter Bahns of 247Sports released his post-spring power rankings for the Big Ten this past week, and the Spartans to no surprise were in the bottom half of the league. Michigan State came in at No. 12 in the power rankings, which was one spot ahead of Rutgers and one spot behind Washington. The complete rankings from Bahns can be seen by clicking here or scrolling further to the embedded graphic below.
Bahns had the following to say about the Spartans following spring practice:
"A lot rides on Aidan Chiles taking better care of the ball in 2025. With a Big Ten-high 11 interceptions and his four lost fumbles as a first-year starter, the debut season at Michigan State was often highly frustrating. Jonathan Smith improved the roster around his quarterback, like he did on a perennial basis throughout his stellar tenure at Oregon State, and now it comes down to Chiles making the most of it. Sophomore Nick Marsh will help him do so as one of the top projected receivers in the conference."
From my point of view, this seems like a fair breakdown of the Spartans and ranking from Bahns. The Spartans have the upside to climb higher in these rankings should everything click offensively with Chiles and co., but they could also fall further down the rankings if we don't see the necessary progression on that side of the ball. So No. 12 is a fair spot to slate the Spartans as we wrap up spring practice and look ahead to the fall.
Michigan State opens the 2025 season against Western Michigan on August 30.

Malcom Simmons' 2025 Auburn football player profile

Malcolm Simmons was productive in Auburn's offense last season and will be just as valuable in 2025. Two members of the "Freeze Four" had breakout seasons in 2024, and are looking to make an even bigger splash this season. Alongside Cam Coleman, Malcolm Simmons made a name for himself as a member of Auburn's receiving corps as a true freshman in 2024. He logged over 40 catches in his debut season and made a statement early by hauling in three catches for 91 yards and a score in his first-ever game against Alabama A&M. Simmons was valuable in short-yardage situations, as 32 of his 40 catches were on plays less than 10 yards. His short game opened him up to make bigger plays, as he logged six catches for 183 yards and two scores on plays that gained 10-19 yards. He will team up with Georgia Tech transfer Eric Singleton to give Auburn quarterback Jackson Arnold plenty of options at different depths throughout the year. Here is a look at Simmons' player profile ahead of the 2025 season. Former Texas A&M quarterback, Heisman winner ranked as top 10 college QB of all time

A former Texas A&M quarterback who became the second Heisman Trophy winner in school history was listed among the best quarterbacks to ever play college football in a recent all-time ranking. MLFootball's top 10 list placed Johnny Manziel at No. 6, above the likes of Sam Bradford (Oklahoma), Andrew Luck (Stanford), Vinny Testaverde (Miami) and Dan Marino (Pittsburgh). The former Aggie star shaped the future of the program with his acts of magic on the gridiron, becoming the first freshman in college football history to throw for more than 3,000 yards and rush for more than 1,000 yards in a single season. Before he decided to play his collegiate career in College Station, Manziel was originally committed to the Oregon Ducks. After Kevin Sumlin was named the head coach and appointed Kliff Kingsbury as his offensive coordinator, the Tivy High School gunslinger brought his talent to Aggieland. Although things started shaky in the program's first matchup as a member of the SEC against Florida, he quickly turned things around the next week against the SMU Mustangs by throwing for 294 yards and four touchdowns, while also rushing for 124 yards and recording two scores on the ground. That moment marked the moment that "Johnny Football" was born. The freshman shredded the league's defenses, including Nick Saban's Alabama team, marking Texas A&M's first win over the Crimson Tide since 1968. He finished his freshman campaign with 3,706 passing yards and 26 touchdowns through the air, while also scorching defenses on the ground for 1,410 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns. He became the first freshman ever to win the Heisman Trophy. He had a record-breaking performance with 516 total yards and four touchdowns in the Aggies' dominant 41-13 Cotton Bowl victory over Oklahoma. Manziel secured his first-career 4,000-yard passing season as a sophomore in 2013 and was selected by the Cleveland Browns with the 22nd pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. His outstanding speed, vision and ability to throw from any spot on the field made him a role model for the next generation of quarterbacks, but it also made many coaches across the country dread the Saturday when they had to play against him. "He just stole a game against us in Oxford that I just will never forget. I mean, never," former Ole Miss and current Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze said in an interview with Saturday Down South. "We had them beat, dead to right. They're inside the 5-yard-line, gotta go (99) yards. It's (third)-and-19. The things he did on that drive, you just kind of marvel at." Regardless of the trouble Manziel got himself into off the field, he is one of the greatest college football quarterbacks in history. His groundbreaking achievements and style of play ushered in a new era of college football, while also setting a precedent for all future SEC quarterbacks. Husker defensive lineman named Nebraska boys athlete of the year

A local newspaper has named a recent addition to the Husker football team as the Nebraska boys' athlete of the year. The Omaha World-Herald has named defensive tackle Tyson Terry as the award winner. "After putting it all on the line during football season and becoming the state's first four-time state heavyweight wrestling champion, Omaha North's Tyson Terry, a Nebraska commit, is The World-Herald's Boys Athlete of the Year." Terry finished his prep career with 315 tackles, 48 tackles for loss, 17 sacks, five pass breakups, two blocked field goals, and one touchdown. He missed the majority of his senior year with an injury but managed to make 46 tackles, including nine tackles for loss and two sacks. He was also a successful high school wrestler. He became the first four-time NSAA state wrestling champion at heavyweight with the victory. Terry disclosed, following his fourth title, that he wrestled with a torn ACL during his senior high school season. He joins the Huskers as the No. 4-ranked player in the state of Nebraska, according to the On3 Industry Rating.
