Gujarat: Mansukh Mandaviya leads Fit India Sundays on Cycle; events organised in 6000 locations nationwide with 'Swacchata Senanis'
Held simultaneously across 6,000 locations nationwide, the cycling drives saw various staff. They associated workers from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, sanitation workers, Nagar Palika Nigam staff, as well as state and district municipal corporations, taking centre stage.
This was the 29th edition of the cycling movement that started nationwide in December 2024. The Fit India Sundays on Cycle event has also received special mention from Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his radio program, Mann Ki Baat, solidifying its place as one of India's flagship health and wellness campaigns.
In Palitana, various cycling clubs across the Bhavnagar district joined in. In his hometown of Palitana, Mandaviya reaffirmed that the campaign has turned into a movement now. 'Our Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji's Fit India movement, launched in 2019, is being taken forward in the best way possible through the Sundays on Cycle. This is no longer just a campaign - it is a movement,' Mandaviya said.
'With the 'Swachhata Senanis' leading the way, we're sending a strong signal that fitness and cleanliness go hand in hand. Everyone, big or small, must do their bit for Viksit Bharat, and we have to make cycling the trend in this modern generation.'
From urban locations to small towns, citizens took to the streets early in the morning in a show of unity and commitment toward a healthier lifestyle. Besides the Swachhata Senanis, Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs), local police, MYBharat volunteers from NYKS, NSS, etc., also joined in.
In the national capital Delhi, a crowd of nearly 1,000 cyclists gathered at the iconic Connaught Place for the event, co-hosted by the Raahgiri Foundation and New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC). Chief guest Babita Phogat, Padma Shri awardee and former Commonwealth Games gold medalist, praised the initiative for creating a movement that goes beyond physical fitness.
'When our Hon'ble Prime Minister started this campaign, we were thrilled to be a part of it. Events like these give us mental satisfaction and encouraging our youth to embrace active lifestyles. Today morning, everyone present in CP were just talking about Fit India and Sundays on Cycle. The spirit was full, and I'm sure many who cycled for the first time in years will continue doing so as well as inspire others,' said Babita Phogat.
The other key attractions that took place on the sidelines of the cycling included Zumba, rope skipping, folk dance, nukkad natak, yoga sessions, open mic, etc. The rope skipping activity was organised by a team led by Dr. Shikha Gupta.
Started by Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports Mansukh Mandaviya in December 2024, the 'FIT India Sundays on Cycle' movement, organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS), in collaboration with the Cycling Federation of India (CFI), MY Bharat and Yogasana Bharat, has been held in more than 11000 locations across the country so far with participation of more than 4 lakh individuals.
More than 2000 Cycling Clubs are part of the movement and actively participate every Sunday. These cycling drives are conducted by several Khelo India Centres (KICs), Khelo India State Centres of Excellence (KISCEs), SAI Training Centres (STCs), Khelo India Accredited Academies (KIAAs), Regional Centres (RCs), as well as various National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs) across the country. J&K: Union Minister and L-G to inaugurate Baltal Yatri Niwas tomorrow
Srinagar: Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and J&K Lt Governor (L-G) Manoj Sinha will inaugurate Baltal Yatri Niwas and Disaster Management facility on July 4, which will cater to the needs of the Amarnath Yatra. Three more such facilities are presently being built in Pahalgam, Bijbehara in the Valley and Sidhra in the Jammu division. This initiative is part of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) corporate social responsibility (CSR). These projects not only cater to the annual Amarnath Yatra but also provide year-round benefits to local residents, including permanent healthcare facilities. The Baltal Yatri Niwas and Disaster Management Complex, spread across 6,315 square metres, is now fully operational and includes a Yatri Niwas, VIP guest house, security infrastructure, and disaster-response facilities. Construction is progressing at Nunwan (8,500 sq. m) and Bijbehara (7,640 sq. m), with both sites expected to be completed by September 2025. The Sidhra complex in Jammu, designed to serve as a vital hub for boarding, emergency management, and logistical coordination, is targeted for completion by September 2026. In 2024, ONGC also constructed permanent 100-bed hospitals at Baltal (Ganderbal) and Chandanwari (Anantnag), in collaboration with the Government of Jammu & Kashmir. These facilities, which include ICUs and staff accommodations, replace the earlier temporary medical camps and now serve as year-round Primary Health Centres for yatris and residents. The Yatra started on Thursday as hundreds of Yatris moved towards the holy cave shrine, both from central Kashmir, Baltal, and south Kashmir, Pahalgam base camps. The 36-day Yatra will conclude on August 9, coinciding with Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan festivals. The Baltal trek from base camp to cave shrine is 14 km long, while the Pahalgam trek is 46 km long.

'Scientific evidence refutes that Covid vaccines are responsible for sudden deaths': Medical expert

NEW DELHI: Medical experts have rejected allegations that Covid-19 vaccines are responsible for a recent spike in heart attack-related deaths, following comments made by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah regarding over twenty such deaths in Hassan district. Speaking to ANI, Dr Mohit Gupta, Professor of Cardiology, GB Pant Hospital, said that findings from a study conducted on 1,600 heart attack patients showed a protective benefit of the Covid-19 vaccines. He said, "In our own study on 1,600 patients with heart attacks who had received the Covid vaccine and those who had not received it. We found that those who have received the Covid vaccine not only have lower chances of having a heart attack, all-cause mortality and sudden deaths, but also, following them for 30 days and 6 months, the chances of death of those people are significantly reduced." "The Covid-19 vaccine is harmless and also plays a protective role. This study is not only ours; ICMR has also validated this. Multiple hospitals have conducted big studies on this. A Korean study on around 2 lakh people replicated the same results. The US Covid Collaboration replicated similar results. Earlier in a post on X, CM Siddaramaiah shared that in the past month, in just one district of Hassan, more than twenty people died due to heart attacks. CM Siddaramaiah said, "In the past month alone, in just one district of Hassan, more than twenty people have died due to heart attacks. The government is taking this matter very seriously. To identify the exact cause of these series of deaths and to find solutions, a committee of experts has been formed under the leadership of Dr. Ravindranath, Director of Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, and they have been instructed to submit a study report within 10 days. " He further said that orders were given to this same committee back in February to conduct a thorough study on the reasons behind sudden deaths among young people in the state, and whether the Covid vaccines could have any adverse effects. In this regard, the process of examining and analysing heart patients is also underway. On July 2, a press release by the Union Health Ministry said that studies by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) have established that there is no direct link between Covid-19 vaccination and the reports of sudden deaths in the country.

J-K: Medical camps set up as 38-day Amarnath Yatra commences today
Ramban (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], July 3 (ANI): Authorities have set up 17 medical camps at langar sites, established mini hospitals, and deployed ambulances across Ramban district as the 38-day Amarnath pilgrimage commences today, weeks after the Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 people dead following religious profiling. Ramban Chief Medical Officer Kamal Zadoo told ANI, 'On behalf of the health department, we have set up 17 camps at langar sites and lodgement centres across Ramban district from Nashri tunnel to Navyug tunnel. Mini hospitals have been established at Yatri Niwas Chanderkot and Lambhar Ground, featuring a four-bed indoor facility, a laboratory, and an ECG unit. We have also placed cardiac monitors there this year. Two ambulances have been deployed at Yatri Niwas Chanderkot, the Langar Site in Chanderkot, and Lambhar Ground. We have also kept back-up ambulances for any untoward incidents...' 'The National Highway Authority and the administration have provided four additional ambulances, which we have deployed for yatra duty'. Earlier today, a fresh batch of pilgrims set off for the holy cave of Shri Amarnath Baba, chanting 'Har Har Mahadev' and 'Bam Bam Bhole' as they began their journey. One pilgrim at the Baltal base camp, who is visiting the Amarnath shrine for the 14th time, praised the arrangements. 'I am from Sangrur, Punjab. This is the 14th time I have come for the Amarnath Yatra. There is no need to rush. The arrangements made by the government are excellent,' he told ANI. A pilgrim from Bengal, who was part of the first group departing from the Pahalgam base camp, also expressed satisfaction. 'We are very happy. We have no fear. Our government is very good... Our Army is also very good. We have no reason to be afraid,' he said. Another devotee from the same batch added, 'The facilities are very good... Everything belongs to Bhole Baba. We possess nothing... The arrangements are excellent.' Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Vijay Kumar Bidhuri said the enthusiasm among devotees for the 38-day yatra is unmatched. 'This Yatra is not just a religious Yatra. Security forces, 'pitthus', and every service provider are involved in it... The enthusiasm among the devotees is unparalleled. I pray that everyone's wishes are fulfilled and there is peace and happiness in Kashmir and the rest of the country,' he said. Kavita Saini, a pilgrim making her first trip to Amarnath, also shared her experience. 'This is my first time for the Amarnath Yatra. The experience is very good. We got our medical certificate and registration from here. Everyone was very helpful. The Delhi Police and Kashmir Police were all very helpful to us... I will pray that there is peace and happiness in our country and that whatever happened recently does not happen again.' The 38-day pilgrimage ends on August 9. It will follow two routes, the traditional 48-kilometre Pahalgam route in Anantnag district and the shorter but steeper 14-kilometre Baltal route in Ganderbal district. The first group of pilgrims departed from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu on July 2. (ANI)
