Mike Trout to Red Sox? MLB Writer Floats 'Dream' Blockbuster Trade Idea
The Boston Red Sox traded Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants earlier this week. The move seemingly indicated the team's intention to sell at the trade deadline, but Craig Breslow said the team is not giving up on the season, during a press conference posted on the team's YouTube channel after the Devers trade.
Trading Devers after the team had clawed itself back into the postseason picture was certainly a shock. However, the team managed to trade away the remainder of Devers' $313 million deal, saving more than $270 million over the next eight-plus years.
The move gives the Red Sox some freedom to explore more expensive options at the trade deadline and free agency. Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer proposed a "dream" trade idea that would bring Mike Trout to the Red Sox from the Los Angeles Angels.

DENVER, CO - JUNE 24: Mike Trout #27 of the Los Angeles Angels watches the flight of a third inning solo homerun in a game against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field on June 24, 2023 in Denver, Colorado. More"They badly need right-handed thump, and Trout could provide it by slotting into Devers' old haunt at DH, with only occasional duty in Boston's youth-infused outfield," wrote Rymer. "Of course, Trout would have to have faith that the Red Sox can actually contend after mostly not doing so since 2018. But if his choice is between the Red Sox and the Angels, the former is by far the better bet to make sure he doesn't remain stuck on three career playoff games."
Trout is a future Hall of Famer, three-time MVP Award winner, 11-time All-Star and nine-time Silver Slugger. However, he has not done much winning in his career. The Red Sox are still in position to make a postseason push, and adding one of the best players of all time would help the cause.
Trout has five-plus years left on his 12-year, $426 million deal. The superstar has a full no-trade clause and has remained loyal to the Angels after years of the team failing to build a true contender. The Angels managed to squander multiple seasons with Shohei Ohtani and Trout on the team. Could he finally be open to a change of scenery?
The Red Sox are a young team that could use Trout. Trout has dealt with injuries over the last few seasons and has already missed time this year. However, he is slashing .317/.408/.433 since his return from the injured list.

Red Sox Insider Provides Promising Update on Alex Bregman's Future in Boston
Red Sox Insider Provides Promising Update on Alex Bregman's Future in Boston originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Boston Red Sox made their big free agency splash this offseason on former Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman. The Red Sox signed the two-time All-Star to a three-year, $120 million contract with opt-outs included. Advertisement The addition has paid off so far for Boston as Bregman has a team-leading .299 BA and .913 OPS, along with 11 home runs and 35 RBI. Recently, the Red Sox got positive news on the likelihood that Bregman remains in Boston following the 2025 season. "Alex Bregman, the Red Sox' marquee offseason addition who is eligible to become a free agent again in four months, is all ears about a new contract — if there is anything to hear," Boston Globe's Tim Healey said (h/t SportsIllustrated). "That includes a potential extension before reaching the open market." Bregman waited deep into free agency to sign his contract with the Red Sox, and structured his contract so he had flexibility to re-negotiate a new deal based on his performance. Advertisement Boston Red Sox infielder Alex Bregman (2) connects with the ball for a Tilley-Imagn Images The star third baseman looks like he could be the Red Sox's centerpiece for the future now, after Boston traded away Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants. The Red Sox have already called up numerous young prospects, and Bregman would be the veteran staple at third base to lead Boston for the future. "I always tell the team — and Alex directs me to tell them — we're always open to any conversation,' Bregman's agent Scott Boras said to Healey (h/t SportsIllustrated). 'Any player who plays well somewhere, it's something that's important for the team and important for the player. It's an additive." Advertisement Bregman is currently on the injured list as he deals with a quad injury. He has not seen the field since May 23, yet still leads the team in BA and OPS. The Red Sox also got positive news about Bregman's potential return as Boston could see their third baseman return before the All-Star break, according to the latest reports. Bregman was off to a fantastic start in Boston, and his presence has been missed. The third baseman was on pace for one of the best seasons of his career. A return soon would bode well not only for the Red Sox but for Bregman's future contract negotiations. As for now, there's a lot of positivity in Boston around Bregman's likelihood to remain with the team for the future. Red Sox Predicted to Land Dominant Left-Handed Power Hitter in MLB Draft
Red Sox Predicted to Land Dominant Left-Handed Power Hitter in MLB Draft originally appeared on Athlon Sports. In ESPN's latest mock draft, where MLB insiders make the picks, the Boston Red Sox are predicted to land Andrew Fischer 34th overall, a corner infielder from the University of Tennessee. Advertisement Kiley McDaniel of ESPN says Fischer combines advanced power and plate discipline, making him an ideal fit for Boston's youth movement. "Fischer is getting buzz all over the 20s and also likely won't last this long [34] on draft day," McDaniel said. In 271 at-bats with Tennessee this season, Fischer hit .341 with a monster .497 on-base percentage. He racked up 25 homers (good for third in NCAA DI), 65 RBIs, and 63 walks across 65 games played. Oh, and his OPS was a whopping 1.257. Boston Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow speaks with the media at the Hilton Anatole during the 2024 MLB Winter Miron-Imagn Images "Fischer's signature tool is his plus power that works to all fields, the product of a left-handed swing with bat speed and loft," prospect profile says. "He showed that he can launch balls in the air with wood bats last summer in the Cape Cod League." Advertisement His ability to dominate in arguably the best conference in college baseball (SEC) could put the 21-year-old higher on many draft boards than where the Red Sox are being projected to take him, 34th overall. After all, prospect rankings for the upcoming draft have Fischer ranked 29th. With Triston Casas injured, it remains to be seen where Fischer would land with a healthy lineup. The Tennessee product can play either corner infield spot and could even be a designated hitter if his hitting develops to that level. The addition of Fischer would bring a big-time power bat to Boston sooner than some may think. Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire: Roman Anthony, Sal Frelick lead hitters to stream this weekend
There are plenty of terrific hitting fantasy baseball streamers this weekend. Brewers leadoff man Sal Frelick and Red Sox rookie Roman Anthony are my top picks, but there are several players who are widely available and should provide offense during the White Sox-Rockies series at Coors Field. On the pitching side, there are multiple starters from the Brewers and D-backs who are good enough to take advantage of low-scoring lineups. Let's take a look at the top waiver-wire options. Matchups to Target Red Sox @ Nationals Boston's offense should have a productive weekend against three below-average starters and a bullpen with an MLB-worst 5.83 ERA. Anthony (50%) is hitting second in the lineup, which makes him a great option in shallow leagues. Trevor Story (37%) can contribute in a variety of ways, Abraham Toro (9%) is a good option in deeper formats and Carlos Narvaez (21%) is a playable catching streamer. White Sox @ Rockies There are plenty of potential streamers when Chicago's no-name lineup heads to Coors Field to take on a Colorado pitching staff with a 6.19 ERA at home. Rookie Chase Meidroth (9%) has struggled of late but is still someone to add. Lenyn Sosa (2%) and Andrew Benintendi (2%) are two boring veterans who should be productive for one weekend. And with three right-handed starters on the docket, Mike Tauchman (2%) should be the leadoff hitter each game. On the other side of the same matchup, the Rockies should score their share of runs against three mediocre right-handed starters, which makes leadoff man Tyler Freeman (14%) and cleanup hitter Ryan McMahon (31%) viable options. Rays @ Twins Since the beginning of June, the Twins rank last in baseball with a 5.77 ERA. And since they are using right-handed starters in all three games this weekend, the streamers for the Rays are obvious. Josh Lowe (52%) could hit leadoff in all three games, making him a good fit in shallow leagues. Those who need steals should target lefty hitter Chandler Simpson (32%), who has 23 swipes in 152 at-bats. Brewers @ Marlins The Brewers should have plenty of baserunners when they face three starters who each have a WHIP over 1.27 and a relief corps with a 1.33 WHIP. With all three starters throwing from the right side, lefty leadoff man Sal Frelick (42%) may be the top streamer in this article. Lower in the lineup, Isaac Collins (3%) and Caleb Durbin (16%) are deep-league options. Blue Jays vs. Angels Although the Angels deserve credit for having improved bullpen work in recent weeks, they are still likely to give up their share of runs during a series in which they will roll out three starters with an ERA above 4.10. Addison Barger (33%) should make an impact from his premium lineup spot, and Andres Gimenez (37%) has started to reverse a slow start to the season. Ernie Clement (37%) has a low ceiling but has hit .343 since June 1 and is eligible at four positions. Advertisement [Smarter waivers, better trades, optimized lineups — Yahoo Fantasy Plus unlocks it all] Matchups to Avoid Reds @ Phillies The Reds will need to run a gauntlet of effective starting pitchers when they face Jesus Luzardo, Ranger Suarez and Zack Wheeler. Elly De La Cruz is the only must-start Red, although Spencer Steer (who is day-to-day with a hand injury) is swinging such a hot bat that he will stay in some lineups. On the other side of the same series, the Reds will roll out rookie phenom Chase Burns, and Andrew Abbott and Nick Lodolo, who have been effective this year. That trio isn't enough to convince me to bench the Phillies' key hitters, but I would take a second look at J.T. Realmuto and Bryson Stott. Mets vs. Yankees The Mets will hopefully score often against Marcus Stroman on Friday, because they are less likely to succeed against lefties Carlos Rodon and Max Fried in the subsequent two games. Francisco Lindor, Pete Alonso and Juan Soto are the matchup-proof Mets. Having two lefties on the docket makes Brandon Nimmo a fringe option rather than a must-start player. Seeking Saves Shelby Miller, Diamondbacks, 39% Miller may be a fixture in this space until fantasy managers give him more credit for being the full-time closer on a respectable team. He has pitched well this year (2.04 ERA, 0.99 WHIP) and figures to get a save chance during a series against a Royals team that tends to play close games by virtue of having a good pitching staff (5th in ERA) and a poor offense (30th in runs scored). Seeking Steals Sal Frelick, Brewers, 42% This may be my easiest pick of the season. Frelick ranks 16th in baseball with 15 steals and bats leadoff against righties. He should steal multiple bases this weekend, as the Marlins will use right-handed starters in each game and have allowed 20 more steals than any other team. In deeper leagues, Joey Ortiz and Collins are excellent options for swipes.
