Teddi Mellencamp still lives with ex Edwin Arroyave and wants him to date other women as she battles cancer
The reality star, whose Los Angeles mansion was targeted by burglars, opened up about her unusual living arrangements in an appearance on the Jamie Kern Lima Show on Tuesday.
When the pair first separated in October 2024, they opted to let their kids, Slate, 12, Cruz, 10, and Dove, five, live in their family home full time while Mellencamp, 44, and Arroyave, 48, took turns.
Mellencamp's friend Kyle Richards provided a space for her to stay and once joked, 'I have shared custody with Teddi Mellencamp. She lives with me on Tuesdays and Wednesdays,' on Bravo's Hot Mic podcast.
After Mellencamp was diagnosed with brain tumors and stage four cancer, that situation changed.
Though there are times when Arroyave has stayed at their other house, when Mellencamp told him she was feeling 'really sick,' he decided to stay 'downstairs in the bedroom at our house right now.'
She also said she wants him to start dating someone new.
'We can live in the same house,' explained Mellencamp. 'We don't argue.
'I always knew he'd do the right thing by me,' the former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star said.
'If he wanted to, he could still be filing and finishing this divorce off right now. But, my dad [musician John Mellencamp] and family just said like, "I don't think this is the right thing for her to be able to try to navigate right now or figure out."'
'It was like, "Yeah, of course. No, we'll wait. We'll wait until she's better, and then we'll figure it out."'
Mellencamp was rumored to have been involved in an affair prior to the official split, but in an appearance on The Skinny Confidential podcast in February, she hinted strongly that Arroyave's infidelity had been a problem for years.
'Me and Edwin had some of the most amazing years and the most amazing times, and when we met it was hot and it was all the things, and then there would be somebody else,' she admitted.
'And I'd be like, "It's okay, I'm gonna work through it, I'm gonna make him love me more!" Then you have kids and things happen,' she continued.
Now she is giving him her blessing to see other women. 'I would be fine with him dating,' she told Lima.
'Is he fine with you dating?' the host asked. 'I don't know. We've talked about it.
'I think everyone is my life is worried about me in general. So, for a little while, I was dating somebody.
'It went all over the press and everybody's talking about it and I'm like, "One: this is long enough ago that by the time you found out who the person was I wasn't dating the person.'
The former reality star said she also talked to her therapist asking, 'if I feel the urge, if I get asked on a date or if somebody wants to take me out, she's like, "You should go."
'She's like, "Anything that you want to do right now and you feel in your heart that you want to do, do it." She's like, "It could be if [Edwin] asked you on a date and you wanted to go, nobody's setting any rules for you."'
As for for herself, the personal trainer said, 'for a little while, I was dating somebody. It went all over the press' but the relationship has since ended
Mellencamp said that 'right now, I'm not wanting that from him.'
'I just want him to be happy, and I want our kids to be happy, and I want us to be able to have a good friendship and relationship,' she explained.
'I don't want to do anything to hurt him,' she said, adding, 'I kind of know how our marriage works.'
Although she referred to Arroyave as her ex-husband at one time in the conversation , the personal trainer joked that she was unsure about 'what you call somebody you were married to, then you filed for divorce, and then you got cancer, so then everything went on hold.'

Teddi Mellencamp didn't let her latest struggles hold her back when she stepped out in Los Angeles on Thursday. The 44-year-old former Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills star was spotted leaving her home in Encino as she waited for a limo to chauffeur her to her destination. Despite confessing that she hadn't been feeling well in recent days, she was looking her best with her chic new hairdo that she unveiled the day before. Teddi could be seen at one point taking a call, and she bared a refreshing smile despite sharing devastating health news related to her cancer battle with her followers this week. Her outing also came in the wake of a scary break-in attempt that was luckily averted by a top-notch security system. Teddi looked comfortable and stylish for her day out with a flowing black-and-brown patterned jumpsuit with spaghetti straps. 'Essentially, what we figured out with me was, yes, I started out feeling great, and I could do all the pods and I could do all these things, and I could go to all my daughter's horse shows and I could stay at my house by myself, and I felt really strong,' she said while chatting with her co-host Tamra Judge. 'We're going to take a little break on the immunotherapy to get my body back feeling stronger,' Teddi declared. She clarified that she was currently taking steroids to help alleviate the side effects of the immunotherapy. 'We're doing everything that we can to get me back to feeling like I, you know, I can do this, I can do all the things,' Teddi added. She said that she had lately been dealing with highly variable energy levels, where some days she could do all her usual tasks, while other days she struggled to fulfill her responsibilities without getting too fatigued. Teddi also noted that she has had difficulties with her memory and sometimes struggled to recall gossip from earlier RHOBH episodes when recording her podcast. However, it wasn't clear if those memory side effects were due to her latest round of treatments, or if they could have stemmed from her brain tumors. The daughter of John Mellencamp previously revealed that she had been diagnosed with several melanomas in 2022, and the surgeries to remove them in recent years have left a patchwork of scars across her back and shoulders. Patients diagnosed with stage IV cancer also have a greater likelihood of dying from the disease, though it can still be reversed at that point, or at least treated well enough to prolong a patient's life for a considerable amount of time. Teddi has subsequently called out commenters on her Instagram posts who have suggested she has little time left. During her somber health update, she clarified that she doesn't want to fill her fans' 'feed with cancer' news. 'I know that can be a depressing topic,' she admitted. 'But I also want [people to know that] if you're going through something like this, things are going to change and that's OK,' Teddi said. 'The hardest thing for me has been kind of the wake up call of "Wow, I can't do what I did yesterday," or "Wow, I can't do what I did three weeks ago,"' she added. Teddi also reiterated that her cancer hasn't just upended her life, but has also severely affected her children. 'It's changed my kids' life. It's changed my relationship with Edwin [Arroyave],' she said, referring to her estranged husband. 'You guys all know that we were filing for divorce. Nothing's changed in that other than that we're on hold because of what's happening to me medically,' she explained. 'But he's had to step in and help me because some days I can't do it.' In a recent interview with her friend and former RHOBH costar Kyle Richards, Teddi revealed that her doctors opted not to order more advanced scans after initially discovering her stage I melanomas, which might have revealed that her cancer was spreading. She urged others diagnosed with cancer to advocate for themselves and to be more actively involved in their treatment as a result.
