A 41-year-old man has died after being stabbed in Montreal North early Monday morning.
Police were called at 5 a.m. to the intersection of Charleroi Street and Lacordaire Boulevard after getting a 911 call about an armed assault.
When police arrived on site, the victim 'was unconscious and wounded in the upper body with a sharp object,' said SPVM spokesperson Caroline Chèvrefils.
He was sent to hospital in critical condition and succumbed to his injuries later in the day, Chèvrefils said Monday afternoon. Investigators from the Major Crime Unit are leading the investigation, which is still ongoing.
Montreal police arrested a 40-year-old man at the scene who was expected to be questioned by officers later in the day. Police did not say whether any charges are expected to be laid.
Police say the killing marks the 17th homicide of the year in Montreal.
