Texas A&M Football Wins In-State Recruitment Battle Against Texas For Linebacker DaQuives Beck in More Ways Than One

Twenty-four hours after announcing his commitment, four-star linebacker DaQuives Beck shut down his recruitment. He received 20 offers, and Texas A&M's biggest competitors were Texas, SMU, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Arizona.
Beck is from Carthage, Tex. and is the No. 196 overall recruit from his class. He's also the No. 11 overall linebacker and No. 25 athlete out of Texas. Gabe Brooks of 247Sports wrote in his scouting report of the rising senior that he's a "physical off-ball linebacker prospect" with impressive speed, power, and overall athleticism. In the NCAA, regardless of where he committed, Beck is expected to be a multi-year starter and has NFL potential long-term.

As a Carthage Bulldog, Beck earned Defensive MVP of the 2024-25 4A Division II State Championship game. He had 10 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and one sack in the contest against Waco La Vega. Beck helped lead his team to the high school program's 10th state championship.
He first visited College Station back in January. Beck said to On3 that he and the coaching staff developed a very good relationship, specifically assistant coach Trooper Taylor and defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Jay Bateman. Beck also has connections with the Aggies through a teammate who already committed to Texas A&M: KJ Edwards.
Beck is the second linebacker commit for the Aggies after three-star Storm MIller's announcement back on April 2.
Now that Beck shut down his recruitment, Elko can focus on the next primary targets, defensive lineman Lamar Brown and wide receiver Boobie Feaster. Brown appears to be going back-and-forth between Texas A&M and LSU. Feaster is currently projected to land with the USC Trojans.

Advertisement Sports analyst, and noted Celtics fan Bill Simmons, believes that it'll happen. Specifically, Simmons predicts in 2031, Flagg will join the Celtics. MORE: A major update in LeBron James' trade talks from Lakers If Flagg lives up to the hype, he'll be a top-10 player in the league within a few years. NHL News: Former Bruins Forward Calls It A Career
A former Boston Bruin is officially hanging up the skates. Through a post on his Instagram account, former Bruins forward Tyler Johnson officially announced his retirement from the NHL. Johnson, 34, spent the final portion of his NHL career with the Bruins during the 2024-25 season. In nine games with the Original Six club, he recorded two assists, 10 penalty minutes, and a minus-1 rating. Advertisement Johnson's time with the Bruins ended last December when he and the team mutually agreed to terminate his contract. From there, Johnson became an unrestricted free agent (UFA) and did not sign with another club. While Johnson's time with the Bruins was brief, there is no question that the Washington native had a strong NHL career. In 747 career NHL games split between the Tampa Bay Lightning, Chicago Blackhawks, and Bruins, he posted 193 goals, 240 assists, 433 points, and a plus-19 rating. He also won the Stanley Cup twice as a member of the Lightning and was an All-Star in 2014-15. Mavs Officially Announce Major Kyrie Irving Move
Mavs Officially Announce Major Kyrie Irving Move originally appeared on Athlon Sports. DALLAS — Just hours before the Dallas Mavericks selected Cooper Flagg with the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, franchise cornerstone Kyrie Irving made a defining statement of loyalty and belief. Advertisement The nine-time NBA All-Star declined his $43 million player option for next season and instead agreed to a three-year, $119 million contract extension with Dallas ... and now that agreement is officially signed. The deal includes a player option for the 2027-28 season and effectively ties Irving to the Mavericks for the remainder of his prime years. It's a commitment that not only offers Irving long-term security as he recovers from a torn ACL but also provides the Mavericks with much-needed roster flexibility and a clear direction as they reshape their identity in the wake of the Luka Doncic trade. Irving's choice to leave $43 million guaranteed on the table speaks volumes. Rather than play out a single season of uncertainty, the 33-year-old point guard is doubling down on his belief in Dallas' future. Advertisement League sources told that the new deal's Year 1 salary allows the Mavericks to access the $5.7 million taxpayer mid-level exception — an essential tool as the front office eyes lead guard options to bridge the gap until Irving's expected return in January 2026. Even after his injury-shortened season, Irving remains the heart of this retooled Mavericks roster. Before going down on March 3 against Sacramento, he was enjoying a stellar campaign, averaging 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game while shooting 47.3% from the field and 40.1% from deep. That production, coupled with his veteran presence in the locker room, earned him his ninth All-Star nod and solidified him as the team's emotional and tactical leader. His leadership proved critical during one of the most turbulent stretches in franchise history. The controversial trade that sent Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers left the fanbase stunned and the locker room searching for answers. Irving, despite being sidelined, stepped up behind the scenes — mentoring young players, embracing Anthony Davis as a co-star and helping maintain cohesion amid adversity. Now, with Davis in the fold, Flagg on the way and the organization poised to make more moves, Irving's recommitment, part of his "beautiful" injury rehab, signals the beginning of a new era — one rooted in experience, high-upside youth and a clear championship ambition.
