Analyzing Adem Bona's performance after summer Sixers fall to Jazz
The Philadelphia 76ers fell to the Utah Jazz to begin summer league play on Saturday, 93-89. The standout for the Sixers was rookie VJ Edgecombe who impressed with 28 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and two blocks as he stuffed the stat sheet in his summer league debut.
However, Adem Bona deserves the spotlight a bit. The second-year big man out of UCLA had 16 points, eight rebounds, and a block and had some big moments against Jazz big man Kyle Filipowski. As he continues throughout the summer league, the Sixers will be looking for more of this.
Now's the time to look at the good and the bad from Bona's performance against the Jazz:
The good
His energy and soft touch around the basket was what stood out on Saturday. Bona is like a pogo stick at times and he skied for a big putback on the offensive end while showing off some dribble moves. He flashed some potential as a driver with the basketball in his rookie season, but there was one play, in particular, on Saturday when he jab stepped, took Filipowski baseline, and threw down a slam over his fellow second-year counterpart.
Another thing that stands out about Bona is he plays within himself. He knows what he can do and doesn't try to do too much. His ability to finish around the basket and be able to keep the scoreboard moving is a helpful trait. He shot 8-for-11 from the floor against the Jazz and made winning plays all night.
The bad
Bona had moments during his rookie season when he struggled with fouls and that continued in this contest. One is allowed 10 fouls in the summer league before fouling out and Bona got dangerously close to fouling out as he finished with eight. Some of it was just tough luck as he looks to make the big play on the defensive end to help his team, but a few of them were just silly fouls. If Bona wants to keep a rotation spot in the league, he will have to watch his fouling and give the Sixers a player they can rely on to stay on the floor in that respect.

Paul Pierce proposes wild NBA rule limiting three point attempts
The post Paul Pierce proposes wild NBA rule limiting three point attempts appeared first on ClutchPoints. As the NBA has evolved, players have taken shots from further and further away. At the beginning of the league, Bill Russell dominated in the paint, leading the Boston Celtics to 11 championships. When Paul Pierce played, mid-range shots dominated the game. Kevin Durant, one of the NBA's best mid-range shooters, has made a career operating within the three-point line. Advertisement Pierce spoke with Philadelphia 76ers forward Paul George about how 3-pointers have changed the league. Pierce appeared on Monday's episode of Podcast P with George, talking to the former All-Star about today's offense. Teams like the Celtics and 76ers are shooting from shots from deep than ever, resulting in a less-appealing game in his opinion. He complained about the lead offensive strategy in the NBA today, suggesting a rule change that could fix it. 'You know what's bothering me now about the NBA right now is just the amount of threes,' Pierce said. 'I saw the Celtics shoot 60 threes in a game. I was just like damn they could just take it to the bucket. I would just like implement like threes can only be shot at a certain point of the game. Like make the three LED. Turn that s–t off and then turn it on.' Pierce expanded on his thought, saying that the lights would be on in specific stretches of the game. When it is off, players cannot shoot 3-pointers. He told George that it would bring more excitement to the game, keeping things fair in the process. Advertisement 'We're going to get LED threes and now it's off for the next three or four minutes,' Pierce suggested. 'You ain't going to know when it's off though. But you know for the next five minutes it's going to be on. But it's always on the last five minutes of the game for you to try to come back.' The 76ers do not shoot as many threes as the Celtics do, but the shot is a staple of every offense in the league. Last season, both Boston and the Utah Jazz shot 63 3-pointers in a single game. Stephen Curry, Jordan Poole, and LaMelo Ball each had a game where they attempted 20. While Pierce's change might not be the direction the league goes in, the rise in 3-pointers has changed how teams build their rosters. Players like George have been coached to shoot threes or layups, disregarding inefficient mid-range shots. Older players like Pierce and LeBron James don't like the way the NBA has evolved. Unfortunately for them, the 3-point shot is not going anywhere anytime soon. Jazz rookie Ace Bailey nears double figures in summer league debut
Ace Bailey neared a double-double in his debut in the Salt Lake City Summer League, helping the Utah Jazz post a 93-89 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday. Bailey finished with eight points, seven rebounds, one assist, one steal and one blocked shot in nearly 25 minutes of action at the Jon M. Huntsman Center. He earned the start in the contest, going 3 of 13 from the field, including 1 of 5 from 3-point range. The fifth overall pick struggled to make shots, though he flashed his potential as a rebounder, with several coming over a crowd. He also had a highlight-worthy block after making an acrobatic effort to swat an attempt away by Mark Armstrong. After orchestrating a precarious predraft process, Bailey said at his introductory press conference on June 29 that he was eager to play basketball once again. He had that opportunity on Saturday after taking part in several practices ahead of summer league. The Jazz have reportedly been impressed by Bailey in workouts and meetings since joining the team, according to ESPN. They have put Bailey and the rest of the team through rigorous workouts over the past week and have been pleased with the results from those sessions. Bailey and the Jazz return to action on Tuesday for their second of three matchups in Utah. After that stretch, they will play at least five games in the NBA Summer League, beginning Friday in Las Vegas, Nevada.
