Man, 70, Dies After Firework Explodes in His Face at Beach on Fourth of July
The Plymouth County District Attorney's office said Spagnuolo 'was setting off fireworks at the beach when one exploded in his face, causing traumatic injuries'A 70-year-old man in Massachusetts has died after a firework accident on a beach during a Fourth of July celebration.
Officials from the states fire marshal's office are investigating the death of Robert Spagnuolo, who was 'apparently killed by a firework' in Wareham, a coastal town located just west of Cape Cod, according to a July 5 statement from the Plymouth County District Attorney's office.
Wareham Police received a 911 call at around 9:19 p.m. local time on July 4, stating that a person had been struck by a firework.
Police officers, firefighters and emergency medical personnel responded to the scene, where Spagnuolo was pronounced dead.
"After interviewing several witnesses on scene, investigators determined that Spagnuolo was setting off fireworks at the beach when one exploded in his face, causing traumatic injuries," the DA's Office wrote.
Wareham Police, state police, the State Police Bomb Squad and the Massachusetts Fire Marshal's Office are all investigating, the DA's Office added. The state's Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will share the official cause and manner of death at a later time.

A number of deaths and injuries have been reported relating to fireworks amid the Fourth of July holiday weekend this year. In Iowa, the Kossuth County Sheriff's Office said that a 33-year-old man was killed on July 1 after he sustained injuries while shooting off fireworks. He was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead, deputies said.
Additionally, a fireworks explosion in Alabama has resulted in the hospitalization of six people.
The incident involved 'unpermitted fireworks' on a part of Lake Martin in Tallapoosa County, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said.
Authorities stated that the incident involved the malfunction of a pontoon boat 'that had been modified into a fireworks platform' for a planned fireworks celebration.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Overnight, the Lee's Summit Fire Department responded to several fireworks-related fires. Crews were dispatched to a reported structure fire near SW Summit Hill Drive and SW Pacific Dr. after smoke alarms alerted a resident to a fire burning outside the house. When firefighters arrived, nothing was visible from the outside, but they discovered and extinguished several floor joists that had been burned. An investigation found that fireworks had been discarded in the window well that caught dried grass on fire that spread into the basement through the window. Local firework stand rocked by ‘wild' early morning robbery
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Freedom Family Fireworks' tent at the corner of Highway 291 and Highway 210 in River Bend was robbed on Friday morning, according to the Sugar Creek Police Department. Around 5 a.m., officers responded to the tent, where they say three men, two wearing masks, robbed the temporary tent the morning of July 4. The owner of Freedom Family Fireworks says that his employee was held at gunpoint and handcuffed while the robbers stole their products, although SCPD could not confirm that information to FOX4 on Saturday. Discarded fireworks damaged two homes in Lee's Summit, no injuries reported Taylor Gray, the owner, says that his employee was rattled by what happened. 'You know, he's in tears,' Gray said. 'It was. It was that gut-wrenching drive for all of 30 seconds. You're like, 'What happened?' You can't get a hold of anybody, but we're just thankful everybody came out okay,' he said. He said he was called around 4:30 in the morning and immediately knew that something was wrong. 'I've never seen anything like this, man,' Gray said. 'It's been wild. We've had employees overnight steal from us before, but we've never had anything held up like this. It was scary. It's been tough on everybody.' Photos that Gray provided to FOX4 show a white SUV entering their parking lot around the same time as the robbery. Especially since it happened on July 4, Gray said it was a massive blow to the team. 'You're celebrating America's birthday, right? It's supposed to be fun. The kids come out; that's why we do this, right? To make everybody happy. And something like this happens, especially the morning of the 4th of July, you know, really kind of put a damper on everybody.' Gray said the items they took would not have made much resale money. 'This wasn't robbing me to go sell it to pay bills,' he said. 'This was 'They just, they did it to do it'. And it's not okay. They took one of my big packs and then they just went shopping for all that small stuff they wanted.' Gray is offering a cash reward of $2,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction of the thieves. 'We want to make sure we want to help get these people off the street, you know, and it's just not okay. Fireworks are replaceable where people are not. And that's all that matters.' Pittsburgh police make several arrests after another large crowd forms on South Side
Pittsburgh police were again called to the city's South Side neighborhood during the Fourth of July weekend to disperse a large crowd along the East Carson Street corridor. At approximately 1 a.m. on July 5, officers in the 1400 block of Sarah Street responded to the sound of shots being fired. A man was apprehended on the street, and a firearm was recovered. A second man fled the area on foot. No injuries or property damage were reported, according to a report from Pittsburgh At approximately 2 a.m., officers began to disperse the remaining crowd after multiple warnings. Individuals within the crowd began throwing projectiles and launching lit fireworks at officers and police vehicles. Two officers sustained eye irritation from firework debris, and another was struck by a rock. All three officers declined medical attention. Officers also used pepper spray only after they were targeted by the fireworks, but said gas was never used on the crowd. By approximately 3 a.m., the crowd was fully dispersed. Ronald Pelton, 23, of McKees Rocks, was charged with discharging a firearm, reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct, public drunkenness and possession of a weapon. Delricco White, 20, of Duquesne, was arrested after he was observed throwing fireworks at police. White is charged with aggravated assault, possessing instruments of a crime, recklessly endangering another person, propulsion of missiles, evading arrest on foot and disorderly conduct. Kyliek McCracken, 18, of Ambridge, was also taken into custody after he was observed fleeing with White. He is facing charges of criminal conspiracy, disorderly conduct and evading arrest. Officers made three other arrests and issued seven non-traffic citations. Two additional firearms were also recovered. South Side sees increase in late-night incidents Pittsburgh police have been called to an increasing number of similar incidents on the South Side. East Carson Street filled up with another unruly crowd of 1,500 to 2,000 people in late June, prompting Pittsburgh police to call in assistance from neighboring law enforcement agencies. Following that incident, officers needed to deploy pepper spray to break up a large fight on East Carson Street. In the wake of these incidents, the police union recently said the staffing situation is unprecedented.
