Jeremy Clarkson gobsmacked by Steph McGovern's Millionaire revelation
Jeremy Clarkson was left gobsmacked by Steph McGovern when she played Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? on Saturday. The Geordie presenter, 43, was in the hot seat, raising money for charity, when she told the petrolhead she'd helped devise an important bit of kit for a heap of British gardeners.
Revealing she'd helped to develop the humble leaf blower, Steph smiled excitedly as Jeremy couldn't resist digging into her CV. He said: "I was looking at your notes, obviously, business and economics you're known for, but you're also a champion Irish dancer and a novelist, and a journalist, and most important of all, an engineer by trade. And you developed the leaf blower! Couldn't you have made it electric?"
Steph explained that while she was working at Black+Decker more than 20 years ago, an electric version of the leaf blower wasn't possible.
However, she said while at the company's Leaf Hog as part of a Six Sigma team, she helped save the firm £150,000 by improving manufacturing techniques.
Jeremy joked: "There's nothing more annoying, am I right, than somebody else's leaf blower?"
Before her TV career with BBC and Channel 4 took off, Steph was an intrepid engineer and won the prestigious Arkwright Engineering Scholarship in 1998 and was crowned Young Engineer for Britain a year later.
Her Millionaire appearance, which was a repeat from earlier this year, was just another string to her bow as she raised an impressive £125,000 for charity.
Steph walked away with the cash for Rubies, a Middlesbrough-based organisation supporting young girls.
"I am happily gonna take the money and am not gonna carry on, if that's okay", she told Jeremy, choosing to not risk her winnings on the £250,000 questions.
Rubies, which Steph has supported for over five years, helps create 'unforgettable' experiences for girls, including trips to TV studios with the plucky presenter.
On 14 July 2019, Steph revealed that she was pregnant and her girlfriend were expecting their first child. On 4 November later that year, she gave birth to a girl.
This year, the mum-of-one was a finalist in Netflix's Celebrity Bear Hunt hosted by Bear Grylls and Holly Willoughby. Speaking to Prima about why she decided to do the gruelling show, which sees a host of unlikely British celebrities dropped into the Central American jungle as prey for survivalist Bear, she said: "I've previously said no to featuring in reality TV, but when BearHunt came along, I thought, 'This is the one.' Since hitting my 40s, I've been trying to take more risks and it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I learned a lot about myself.
"I had a kid in my 40s, so I was worried that I wouldn't be able to physically push myself. But after each challenge, I felt such a sense of accomplishment. I'm the type of person who wipes seats before I sit on them, but in the jungle, I really threw myself into it. I released an inner animal!"

In a short clip that was recently shared online, Liv demonstrated how she and her partner 'eliminated the Live, Laugh, Love' from their 'pre-loved Haven home.' Showing off the caravan soon after she bought it, which had been 'abused and battered by Haven guests over the years' and is on the Green Acres Caravan Park in Carlisle, Cumbria, Liv penned: 'Our static caravan was giving sad, beige energy, so we decided to give it a makeover.' Then, alongside clips of her partner ripping up wallpaper, painting and adding panelling to the wall, Liv added: 'A home from home vibe, starting with our daughter's room.' Showing off the finished result - a pretty, purple room that is super cute and is sure to be a little one's dream, Liv stressed: 'Caravans don't have to be basic and beige.' In a follow-up clip, Liv confirmed that she was able to add colour to her daughter's caravan bedroom with paint in the shade Dusted Fondant by Dulux. Another added: 'It's beautiful.' Why caravan holidays are so underrated CARAVAN park holidays are a British staple. And with the cost of living crisis wreaking havoc on Britain's purses, more of us are turning to them for an affordable break. Josie O'Brien, Senior Digital Writer on Fabulous, weighs in on why she thinks caravan holidays are seriously underrated... WHEN I was a child, my mum used to collect the £9.50 holiday vouchers in The Sun. She'd use them to book a couple of nights away at a caravan park during the school holidays. As an adult, I fully appreciate the convenience of a humble caravan holiday. No faffing about with passports, no luggage limits and no bog-standard hotel breakfast of stale toast and grey eggs. I still love caravan holidays as an adult. In a world of doing everything for the 'gram, a caravan park brings you back to basics. There's no obligation to get dressed up, no stress to fit a million picturesque excursions in one week and I don't find myself flustered in tourist hot spots like abroad. I love going to coastal caravan parks and strolling along the beach parade. My highlight is always fresh mussels, ice-creams and classic pubs to grab an afternoon tipple in. And then, of course, there's the cost. Staying in a caravan is definitely way cheaper than my international trips. With no expensive hotel bills and the ability to cook my own meals, I'm spending hundreds less than I would abroad. I've had some of my best and most relaxing holidays in caravans. Maybe I'll buy my own one day. Whilst a third simply gasped: 'Wow!' Not only this, but someone else chimed in and asked: "How the hell do they get the beds in and out?" Carvans don't have to be basic and beige Liv In response, Liv wrote back and confirmed: "They bend like cardboard I swear they're rubbish." As well as this, another user questioned: "What happens when u sell the caravan?" To this, Liv clarified: "We don't plan to sell. If we can't keep it on Haven anymore I will move it to private land." King Charles 'bemused' by Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's latest move
King Charles 'bemused' by Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's latest move King Charles is said to be 'bemused' by Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's latest move as the couple are reportedly in a feud with the British monarch over their children's future King Charles III and Queen Camilla, followed by Princess Anne, Princess Royal, arrive for the Sovereign's Garden Party at the Palace of Holyroodhouse on July 1, 2025 in Edinburgh, Scotland. (Image: Getty Images ) King Charles is reportedly embroiled in another dispute with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, this time concerning their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. The British sovereign has found himself at the centre of controversy following revelations that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are seeking new passports for their offspring, hinting at a possible return to working Royal duties in the UK in the future. This development comes as a surprise, especially given Meghan and Harry's high-profile departure from Royal life in 2020 and their subsequent candid remarks about the institution. A confidant of the Sussexes told The Guardian that the intention behind the passport bid was so "when they grow older, they can decide for themselves whether they want to become working royals or stay out of public life." Amidst delays and bureaucratic hurdles in securing the passports, there's speculation that the Duke and Duchess suspect King Charles may be influencing the process. (Image: POOL/AFP via Getty Images ) Article continues below In response, Buckingham Palace issued a statement denying such involvement: "King Charles, battling cancer and governing an entire monarchy, has better and more important matters to handle than meddling in passport applications," reports the Mirror US. The Daily Mail reports that King Charles is both incredulous and amused by the notion that Archie and Lilibet might assume Royal duties, considering their parents' decision to relinquish such roles in 2020. It is also believed that Prince William, who is next in line to the throne, would prevent Archie and Lilibet from assuming any Royal duties. Article continues below An insider reportedly told The Daily Beast's Tom Sykes about the Prince of Wales's stance, saying: "William obviously isn't going to hire Archie and Lilibet. This is just trolling on the part of Harry and Meghan." Royal commentator Richard Eden, writing for The Daily Mail, noted: "From what I am told, the removal of Archie and Lilibet's HRHs could be part of a wider 'slimming down' of the Monarchy when William becomes King."

Oasis fan encounter that shows Liam Gallagher's true colours
Oasis fan encounter that shows Liam Gallagher's true colours Oasis frontman is known for his swagger and big mouth - but when a pair of teens went to meet him in the 1990s they got more than they bargained for Oasis singer Liam Gallagher is set to perform at Wembley tonight (Image: Europa Press via Getty Images ) Oasis' tenure at the top of British rock has had a long-lasting effect on music and fans, despite their fracturous split back in 2009. While the Gallaghers' relationship with each other over the years has been well documented, the reunion gigs, kicking off in Cardiff on July 4, have given the fans a chance to speak about how Oasis, as well as Liam and Noel, have impacted their lives. New series on BBC Sounds, Mad For Oasis, fronted by Noel's eldest daughter Anais, will do just that - share fans' experiences and memories of the band that first hit the charts and our hearts in the mid-1990s. One megafan, Anthony Lanni, spoke to the show, which you can find here, about the time he and his pal Paul Hannington travelled from their Stevenage home in a bid to try and meet Liam Gallagher. "I was just 15 when this happened," he said. "There wasn't much to do so we just figured let's go on this random quest to London and see if we can go and meet him." They unbelievably managed to track down the star and after 15 minutes they summed up the courage to knock the door. "To say he wasn't happy puts it mildly," said Anthony. "I remember him saying 'you don't just come and knock on my door alright'." But that wasn't the end of it. Liam came out and spoke to the boys. "He sort of apologised for being a bit rude and started chatting to us," Paul said. What happened next is a life lesson in 'don't ask, don't get,' when Anthony saw Liam's platinum discs on the wall in the house. "He handed [one of them] to me," he said. "He said, and I'll never forget these words, 'if you don't ask, you don't get'. "He said I can keep it. It's giving me goosebumps just talking about it. I was in sheer disbelief." Hear the full story from Anthony and Paul here. Anais Gallagher said: 'Obviously, Oasis have always been a big part of my life. But to have the opportunity to hear these incredible stories from people about how their music has impacted their lives has been amazing. I'm thrilled to be a part of it.' Oasis competition: Win tickets to see Oasis at Wembley Tickets for the Oasis reunion sold out across all venues due to huge demand when they went online earlier in the year. However, there are still several options available for fans trying to snag a last-minute spot. Viagogo and resale tickets Sites such as viagogo, Stubhub, and Vivid Seats allow fans to buy resale tickets from other fans. However, it is important to note that ticket conditions often prohibit resale after initial purchase. Those tickets may not be valid for admittance to gigs. Fans intending to buy tickets for live events through resale websites should check the ticket terms and conditions, to confirm whether resale is prohibited, before they buy. Ticket terms and conditions can be checked with the original seller, such as Ticketmaster or Live Nation. If resale is prohibited, tickets bought second-hand could be voided and admission to the event refused. Article continues below Limited last-minute tickets can be bought from the official Ticketmaster resale site, where fans who can no longer go sell their seats, although these tend to go into and out of stock resale sites like Viagogo, Vivid Seats, StubHub and Twickets are selling tickets for various dates with prices from £121, although fans should always bear in mind that many official sites, such as Ticketmaster and Live Nation, discourage the purchase of resale tickets.
