The 5 new GTA 6 Trailer 2 Easter eggs only superfans will have noticed

Metro09-05-2025
Fans have not stopped combing the new GTA 6 trailer for further clues and secrets, and they've found a surprising amount of interesting stuff.
Considering fans had to wait over a year for a new GTA 6 trailer, it's no surprise that they've combed the most recent one frame by frame for any potential secrets.
Although it didn't reveal much of GTA 6's story, that wasn't already known, the trailer seems to have teased a number of gameplay details, like multiple fighting styles and the return of a character from the PlayStation 2 games.
Since then, more easy to miss details have been shared amongst the GTA community, although it's hard to say whether Rockstar Games intended them merely as fun Easter eggs or potential hints at major features and perhaps even new games.
GTA 5 already has a few references to Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption games, like a T-shirt with the first game's protagonist John Marston printed on it.
However, the eagle eyed Synth Potato on X has spotted evidence in the new GTA 6 trailer that indicates GTA and Red Dead Redemption share the same universe.
Cash in GTA 6 has the faces of Presidents from Red Dead Redemption 2's lore on themI guess in some way, you could say those games are in a sort of shared universe pic.twitter.com/R06ULBoOYh — Synth Potato🥔 (@SynthPotato) May 7, 2025
If you zoom in on the money been thrown around during the strip club scenes, you'll see that they have the faces of two of the fictional US presidents mentioned in Red Dead Redemption 2: Thaddeus Waxman and President Hardin.
While likely just a simple Easter egg, this is enough proof for some fans to believe the two franchises exist in the same universe, though whether Rockstar will do anything with this, beyond the occasional reference, is another question entirely.
With GTA 6 set in the Florida inspired state of Leonida, Rockstar is using the opportunity to take fans back to Vice City, a location not seen in the series since the two GTA: Vice City games from the mid-2000s.
Those games were set in the 80s, so GTA 6's modern take on the setting looks radically different, but there are bound to be some nostalgic callbacks and references.
One that has already been spotted, once again by Synth Potato, is not in the trailer but one of the many new screenshots released alongside it.
Jason from GTA 6 wearing a palm trees shirt just across from Ocean View HotelRockstar is honoring GTA Vice City in the smallest ways, fun easter egg here! pic.twitter.com/AI6lKf2Uk5 — Synth Potato🥔 (@SynthPotato) May 6, 2025
In the screenshot, co-protagonist Jason can be seen standing outside of what looks like the Ocean View Hotel, which served as your first safehouse in the original Vice City game.
On top of that, Jason's blue palm tree shirt looks similar to the one worn by Vice City protagonist Tommy Vercetti. The similarities are more apparent in a new key visual for GTA 6 (as seen above), which feels too deliberate to be a coincidence.
Sticking with fans' obsession with shirts, MacaroniMike89 on Reddit believes they've spotted references to GTA Online, the multiplayer component of GTA 5, in two other screenshots.
In the above strip club image, someone can be seen on the far right wearing a shirt bearing the name for rapper Yung Ancestor, a rapper who appeared as part of the Diamond Casino heist in GTA Online. In a separate screenshot, a second pedestrian can be seen wearing the same shirt while doing a wheelie on their bike.
This could be nothing but a simple reference, but some fans think these are hints at Yung Ancestor making an appearance. A few of GTA 6's new characters are rappers looking to make it big, which suggests the music business will play a key part in GTA 6's story.
Even if it's not a big role, Yung Ancestor could serve as an ally for related missions, much like how he was in GTA Online where he helped you with the heist.
One common request among fans is for GTA 6 to bring back at least one of the protagonists of GTA 5. Trevor's actor, Steve Ogg, has said he's open to the idea (if only so his character is killed off) and Michael's actor, Ned Luke, is speculated to have teased his inclusion back in 2023.
You'll likely need to wait until GTA 6 is actually out to see if any of GTA 5's cast makes a return, although fans of Michael hope they've found evidence of his appearance in the new trailer.
Early in the trailer, at around the 22 second mark, you can see a white boat with blue stripes parked in Jason's yard. It is seemingly identical to the boat Michael owns, or rather owned, since it gets stolen during one of GTA 5's missions.
As such, could the boat in Jason's yard be the exact same one? If so, was Jason the one to steal the boat or did it come into his possession afterwards? Either way, Ned Luke is having fun rolling with the idea, taking to X to post, 'I'm coming Jason… for my boat.'
This one is more fan speculation than an Easter egg, but it's an intriguing one all the same. As highlighted by TGG on X, several cars sport licence plates for different states besides Leonida, including Gloriana and Liberty, both of which appeared in previous GTA games. More Trending
While this could just be to add some variety and make the setting feel more alive, some fans have suggested that this is hinting at DLC expansions. It has been rumoured before that new cities to explore will be added as post-launch DLC.
Plus, a 2020 report claimed that one plan for GTA 6's launch would have the game be a 'moderately sized release' at first and then be updated over time.
If not for the main game, such expansions could be planned for whatever GTA 6's inevitable multiplayer mode is. Rockstar has not officially confirmed anything, but a GTA Online 2 is believed to be in the works to help keep GTA 6 active and generate revenue for many more years after launch.
It's far too soon to be thinking about DLC, though, with GTA 6 not set to launch for another year, on May 26, 2026, following the decision to delay it beyond the original autumn 2025 release window.

Xbox cancels Perfect Dark reboot and lays off half of Forza Motorsport developer

The Perfect Dark reboot is dead (Microsoft Game Studios) Microsoft has shut down developer The Initiative and cancelled the Perfect Dark reboot as Turn 10 sees their headcount cut by 50%. As predicted, today is not a good day for Xbox or the games industry in general. Although it'll probably be a good one overall for Microsoft, who will no doubt see their share price increase as they cut over 9,000 jobs worldwide. It's still unclear how many of those cuts will affect Xbox, and divisions like Bethesda and Activision Blizzard, but news is slowly leaking out about layoffs at King, ZeniMax, Rare, and more. The biggest causality so far is new studio The Initiative, who were formed seven years ago and were working on a reboot of Perfect Dark. That will never be completed though, as the entire company has been shut down. Perfect Dark was announced in 2020 and while there are long-standing rumours of it being a troubled production, the gameplay trailer from 2022 did look encouraging. However, the fact that The Initiative has been around for seven years, and still wasn't anywhere close to releasing a game, speaks to the poor management that Microsoft has often been accused of when it comes to its first party studios. The Initiative has always seemed particularly bad though, with reports that over half the staff had left by 2022, reducing the head count to around 50. Expert, exclusive gaming analysis Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. There was also the strange annoucement that Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics was being brought in to help with Perfect Dark – meaning there were actually two studios working on the game. That's very strange, as The Initiative was founded by a number of very experienced developers, including former Crystal Dynamics head Darrell Gallagher, Red Dead Redemption writer Christian Cantamessa, and God Of War senior producer Brian Westergaard. Microsoft hasn't confirmed any of the layoffs yet, but Windows Central has obtained a copy of the internal email sent round by Xbox Games Studio head Matt Booty: 'Following Phil's note, I want to share more about the changes to the Studios business units. 'We have made the decision to stop development of Perfect Dark and Everwild as well as wind down several unannounced projects across our portfolio. As part of this, we are closing one of our studios, The Initiative. These decisions, along with other changes across our teams, reflect a broader effort to adjust priorities and focus resources to set up our teams for greater success within a changing industry landscape. We did not make these choices lightly, as each project and team represent years of effort, imagination, and commitment. Our overall portfolio strategy is unchanged: build games that excite our players, continue to grow our biggest franchises, and create new stories, worlds, and characters. We have more than 40 projects in active development, continued momentum on titles shipping this fall, and a strong slate headed into 2026. For those directly affected, we are working closely with HR and studio leadership to provide support, including severance, career transition assistance, and where possible, opportunities to explore roles on other teams. To everyone across our studios: thank you. Your creativity and resilience continue to define who we are. I believe in the strength of our teams and the direction we're taking on the path ahead.' Booty's comments confirm previous rumours about the cancellation of Everwild, but Windows Central suggests that Forza Motorsport developer Turn 10 has lost half of its 100-odd staff. It's also suggested that QA (quality assurance) positions at Activision and Blizzard have been badly affected, along with Xbox marketing and sales, and game producers and managers. State Of Decay 3 developer Undead Labs has also been hit by layoffs but apparently the game, which has rarely been shown in public, has not been cancelled. The site suggests that anything shown at the Xbox Summer Showcase, including Clockwork Revolution, is 'safe' but there's still very little that is certain, with Microsoft unlikely to publicly confirm exact layoff numbers at Xbox. Jason Manford takes swipe at hotel chain's 'ridiculous policy' after being forced to share room

Comedian Jason Manford has slammed a popular hotel chain for making him share a room after giving his room away to another guest. Jason Manford has lashed out at a 'ridiculous' hotel policy after he was forced to share a room with a friend as the hotel was overbooked. The 44-year-old comedian was in Bournemouth on Saturday for his A Manford All Season show and was absolutely disgusted by the hotel. Staff at the Village Hotel told Jason the place was overbooked for the night, and that his room had been sold to someone else as he arrived so late in the day. ‌ Due to the issue, the comedian was forced to share a room with his friend Steve, the Mirror reports. Jason took to social media to blast the popular hotel chain. ‌ Sharing a video on X, formally known as Twitter, he said: "So we got to our hotel tonight in Bournemouth and it's fully booked. We were like, 'Fine, that's good - well done you'. They went, 'No, no, as in like without you'. So me and Steve, obviously [we're] in separate rooms. And then we just discovered that basically if it's fully booked it means that, [you have to share]." "Okay, don't worry, it is what it is, these things happen - all that b******t! I mean we spent all day together! Oh, well, at least we've got a nice view of the car park. Oh well, these things happen and all that. Worse things happen at sea. But Village Hotel, just beware, if you are booking and it's a busy day in a busy city..." Clearly getting wound up by the situation, he continued: "I mean, we're lucky that [our booking] was two rooms because that fella coming behind us, a doctor as well, and no room for him. He just had to walk out, and like and there's no rooms anywhere in Bournemouth tonight. Naughty that, naughty. I've heard of aeroplanes doing it, but I've never known in 25 years of touring, a hotel doing it. That's not on, that is not on." Jason then went on to show the bedroom the pair had been given, adding: "So we've managed to make best of our situation. But that poor doctor, maybe he could sleep on the floor! Anyway, good night." ‌ In the caption, he said: "What's your minimum expectation when you book a room at @Villagehotelsup? Staff were lovely but policy stinks!" The next day Jason returned to social media to reveal the hotel management had been in touch and asked him to remove the video. However he refused to take it down, saying he wanted to warn people about the company's practice. Additionally, Jason expressed that it wasn't the staff's fault but the company itself. ‌ "What I will say is it's not the staff's fault. And this is the problem with these big companies. That is somebody in an office, making a policy that makes them more money, but they don't have to deal with the s**t," he said to the camera. "I didn't kick off, but I can imagine people would. So the staff then have to deal with upset customers and getting vitriol in heightened emotional situations. So I'm not going to take the video down, because I think it's right that people know that's what your company are doing." "And I'm going to leave it up as a bit of support for the staff, who aren't being paid as much as the person who made the decision is and how much that person is making out of this ridiculous policy. So bear that in mind if these things do happen, same with an aeroplane. We've all been there, we've all been in a moment where the person we're in contact with is the person that's going to get it." He concluded, saying: "But we have to take a step back sometimes, just remember that person is just doing their job and they don't like it either. In fact that's what the manager said to me last night, 'I don't like this either, I hate it'. It takes a video like this and us talking about it for them, hopefully to have a little look at their policies and think maybe this is not in the best interest of our staff and certainly not of the customer."
