Is WWE Still Being Run by the Spirit of Vince McMahon?
Is WWE Still Being Run by the Spirit of Vince McMahon? originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
WrestleMania 40 featured one of the biggest feel-good moments in WWE history. Cody Rhodes had finally dethroned Roman Reigns for the WWE championship. Triple H was now running the company. This was the beginning of a new era that would lead WWE into a prosperous and fan-friendly future.

Just over a year later, WWE has squandered much of that goodwill with the fans. The company is still making truckloads of money and is the clear leader in the pro wrestling world. But the public relations department seems to have taken an extended vacation, with several moves taking place that evoke the cutthroat spirit of deposed WWE leader Vince McMahon.

When R-Truth announced on Sunday that WWE was not renewing his contract, many fans thought he must be joking. After all, he had just wrestled John Cena on Saturday Night's Main Event. Truth's fans and co-workers poured out their love and support for the beloved and versatile star, who had just spent 17 years with WWE. Then, the other shoe dropped.
Carlito announced that he was also being let go, despite appearing every week on TV as a member of The Judgment Day. Truth is 53 and Carlito is 46, and they can't be employed as wrestlers forever. But the timing and optics are terrible. Also, with the release of Braun Strowman, Dakota Kai, and several other wrestlers last month, we seem to be back in the Vince McMahon days when wrestlers and staff members are expendable and dropped from the payroll just to please the WWE (now TKO) shareholders.

Another example of WWE acting like the old days its aggressive tactics in counterprogramming AEW pay-per-views. WWE scheduled three shows on the weekend on Double or Nothing and will do the same in July against All In Texas. When AEW moved the All In start time to the afternoon, WWE scheduled the Great American Bash head-to-head!
It all looks bad. WWE management is not acting like the confident leaders of the pro wrestling world. Instead, they are putting profits before people and acting like they are scared of any real competition. We'll see if they can right the ship or whether they continue to waste the goodwill they have built since WrestleMania 40.

$30 Million Golfer Receives Personal Message from PGA Tour
$30 Million Golfer Receives Personal Message from PGA Tour originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Si Woo Kim, the South Korean pro boasting a career earnings of approximately $30 million, was part of the field at the Travelers Championship but had to withdraw. Advertisement After completing 12 holes in the second round at TPC River Highlands, he cited a back injury and exited the tournament—a tough break given his solid first-round 1‑over 71. Today, June 28, marks his 30th birthday (born June 28, 1995), and the PGA Tour didn't miss the chance to celebrate. This morning, they shared a personalized birthday greeting. 'Happy birthday, Si Woo! Please celebrate accordingly.' They posted. Alongside the message, they reposted a video clip from his viral moment at the Presidents Cup last year. After sinking a clutch chip, Kim famously ran around the green and mimicked Steph Curry's 'Night‑Night' celebration, hands to his head as if sleeping. Advertisement That chip, which tied his match on the 16th hole, was a defining highlight of the Internationals' comeback during the event. The celebration became viral golf gold, emblematic of Kim's flair and sense of humor. WWE Night Of Champions 2025 Results As Jade Cargill Wins Queen Of The Ring

More Images) Jade Cargill is WWE's newest Queen of the Ring after the biggest win of her career at Night of Champions 2025. 'The Storm' defeated Asuka in the finals of the 2025 Queen of the Ring tournament to inch one step closer to her first singles championship in WWE. In the most important match of her young WWE career, Cargill planted 'The Empress of Tomorrow' with a massive Jaded finisher out of nowhere to punch her ticket to SummerSlam. The two stars battled in a match largely dominated by Asuka, but ultimately, Cargill stood tall after hitting her finisher to cap off a mediocre QOTR finals match. With the victory, Cargill will now go on to face the WWE Women's Champion, currently Tiffany Stratton, at WWE's first-ever two-night SummerSlam in August. WWE Night Of Champions 2025 Results for Jade Cargill vs. Asuka Cargill pinned Asuka at WWE Night of Champions despite having a rough go-round getting out of the gate. Among the key highlights of the WWE Queen of the Ring finals were: The 2025 WWE Queen of the Ring tournament began with four Fatal 4-way matches, won by Alexa Bliss, Asuka, Cargill and Roxanne Perez, respectively. In the pair of semifinals matches, Asuka defeated Bliss while Cargill toppled Perez to set up the highly anticipated finals between Asuka and Cargill. With Asuka just returning from an extended layoff and having a lengthy history with Raw's Women's World Champion Iyo Sky, Asuka and Cargill entered the QOTR finals in a 'pick 'em' battle that seemingly could have gone either way. But Cargill has been protected throughout her run on WWE's main roster, and WWE seems to have huge creative plans for her in the months ahead. WWE SummerSlam 2025 Preview After Jade Cargill Wins Queen of the Ring Tournament The Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer recently shed some light on why he believed Cargill would win the Queen of the Ring finals at WWE Night of Champions 2025. On a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio (h/t Wrestling Inc), Meltzer said, ""Jade was supposed to be, if she hadn't gotten hurt, Jade was supposed to be champion by WrestleMania. And defending it at WrestleMania. Not [win it] at WrestleMania, but before WrestleMania." While Cargill's injury derailed those championship plans temporarily, her career appears to be back on track. Cargill's win over Asuka at WWE Night of Champions, albeit in a somewhat sloppy performance, was her biggest singles victory to date, and with that win, she's just weeks away from getting a shot at SmackDown's WWE Women's Championship. Why is that so intriguing? Well, SmackDown's Naomi, Cargill's most hated rival, is currently holding the Money in the Bank briefcase, making her a virtual shoo-in to be the world champion in the near future. Cargill's win over Asuka only makes it clearer where WWE should take Naomi's storyline. The best bet here is that Cargill beats Stratton at SummerSlam only for Naomi to instantly cash in on Cargill and take the WWE Women's title from her. Alternatively, Naomi could conceivably cash in during the match, prevent Cargill from beating Stratton and then pin Stratton herself. Regardless of the specifics, Cargill's massive victory in the Queen of the Ring finals at WWE Night of Champions almost certainly will reignite her feud with Naomi at SummerSlam.

WWE Night Of Champions Results As Jade Cargill Wins Queen Of The Ring Over Asuka
Jade Cargill vs Asuka Jade Cargill fended off a hostile Saudi crowd to defeat Asuka and become 2025 Queen of the Ring at WWE Night of Champions. After the match, Jade said "A storm was coming' for SummerSlam." Jade Cargill is in the midst of the biggest sustained push of her WWE career to date. After being one of the early AEW free agent signings following a historic run in All Elite Wrestling, Cargill has shown flashes of brilliance while learning the ropes of the wrestling business. 'Jade is… I have no less belief in her now than I did then,' said Triple H during a Survivor Series post-show in 2023. 'It's interesting when she came in we talked about her development and where she would land but what the development was. I want to make sure that no matter what is thrown at Jade Cargill she's ready. And, at no fault of her own, I think she was limited in that, right? So the idea is, we exposed her, we made her be seen, people are understanding, and they're waiting, and they're excited for her to come. When she does, it's going to be massive.' In today's wrestling landscape, the learning curve is far steeper given the lack of WWE house shows, not to mention Jade went straight to the main roster. Given her experience, Cargill is an excellent pro wrestler with massive potential. Expectations for Jade are borderline unreasonable, and patience is a virtue in WWE as evidenced by all the times Karrion Kross was allowed to fall on his face for years before finally finding his voice. Now in a feud with Naomi and on her way to a world title match against Tiffany Stratton, Cargill's time has come. Though she was at her best as a cocky, overdog heel, Jade Cargill is one of the more popular babyfaces in WWE, and seems to be closing in on her first singles championship. That is, until Naomi inevitably cashes in, thereby continuing her first long-term feud in WWE, which is more important than any title. Naomi is heating up and doing the best work of her career as a heel. This is good for Jade Cargill as long as Naomi doesn't do too good of a job as a heel to where she is cheered. After being thrown into the deep end, only an injury slowed down Jade Cargill, and she has parlayed that return into a major WrestleMania win over Naomi, followed by her first Queen of the Ring.
