Rajinikanth surprises fans with a temple visit while on his way to the 'Jailer 2' shoot in the Kerala hills
Rajinikanth
recently made an unexpected stop at the
Matheswaran Sivan temple
in the Anaikatti hills near Coimbatore while he was en route for the shooting of his upcoming film, 'Jailer 2.' The legendary actor stepped out of his car to offer a quick darshan, which surprised many fans who had gathered nearby hoping to catch a glimpse of him.
On April 25, he traveled from Anaikatti to Mangarai, as the 74-year-old actor has been shooting for director
Nelson Dilipkumar
's 'Jailer 2' along the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border, particularly in Kerala's Attappadi region, where he has been filming for the past 20 days. Before this schedule, he completed portions of the film in Chennai. Fans, aware of his daily travel routes, often gather along the roads to see the superstar.
Warm welcome at the temple
At the temple, Rajinikanth was warmly welcomed by the priest, who performed a brief puja and inquired about the actor's health. News of his arrival quickly spread, which led to a large number of devoted fans outside the temple.
Rajinikanth greeted his admirers with folded hands and posed for pictures with some lucky fans. Videos and photos of this temple visit have since gone viral on social media.

'Jailer 2' is the sequel to the 2023 blockbuster Jailer, continuing the story of Rajinikanth's character. The film is directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and has generated high expectations among fans.

Sitaare Zameen Par box office collection day 12: Aamir Khan's film to hit Rs 200 crore worldwide today, surpasses Salman Khan's Sikandar
Aamir Khan may not have gone the action route to secure a hit, but his coming-0f-age sports comedy Sitaare Zameen Par has now beaten one of the most-awaited Bollywood action films of this year. On its 12th day at the domestic box office, Aamir's lighthearted movie beat Salman Khan's Sikandar. On Tuesday, Sitaare Zameen Par earned Rs 4 crore, a slight improvement on its Monday earnings of Rs 3.75 crore, which is the lowest single-day earnings of the film so far. Over its second weekend, it earned Rs 12.6 crore and Rs 14.5 crore respectively. Prior to that, it hovered around the Rs 6-9 crore mark throughout its opening week post the opening weekend. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, the current box office collection of Sitaare Zameen Par in India stands at Rs 130.4 crore. In the process, it's beaten the lifetime domestic earnings of Sikandar (Rs 129.95 crore). It's now inching closer to surpassing Akshay Kumar's Sky Force, which earned Rs 134.93 crore earlier this year. Sitaare Zameen Par is still scoring more than the other Hindi release it's competing with currently. Vishal Furia's mythological horror film Maa, starring Kajol, earned Rs 2.85 crore on Tuesday, taking its domestic total up to Rs 23 crore in five days at the box office. Southern cinema still sizzles with age-old glamour
At an age when stars of the earlier era were either sent packing or decided to move away from the limelight to foray into politics, in sharp contrast, the modern day 60 - and beyond matinee idols in south India still seem to be in great demand. Across the country, Amitabh Bachchan at 82 may not be the 'one-man industry' he was four decades back but he has enough on his plate to make him rise and shine on a daily basis. His juniors, who began a few years later in the distant peninsula have done much better. They still command huge salaries, have the best banners tying up with them on a consistent basis, dabble in all genres – from sci-fi to socio-political dramas – and have young heroines, as old as their daughters, jive with them in dream locations across the world. Herogiri for them thus is a permanent occupation, one surmises. From the most popular Kamal-Rajini duo in Tamil cinema, Mohanlal- Mammootty in Malayalam, the lone ranger Shivaraj Kumar in Kannada to the quartet of Chiranjeevi- Venkatesh-Nagarjuna and Balakrishna in mana Telugu states, none seems to be wanting to stay away from the greasepaint and glamour of moviedom. Even as in the last 15 years, these stars touched the senior citizen status but continued to churn out their staple fare for their fans, spread across three generations. The box-office response may not have always been kind as also the reactions of the hyperactive social media, which has captured the central spot in determining how the initial weekend of the film's performance, post-release would pan out. Yet, all these heroes are fighting fit to stay in the race with their younger counterparts, who have had to share their directors and tech teams with them, not to speak of the glamour girls, who don't mind being labelled an old man's girl by the cheeky new gen. Huge budgets running into hundreds of crores are avowedly invested in shaping up the celluloid creations of these titans, who still retain maximum screen space and the best of the scenes to keep their fans as excited as ever. Rather brazenly many of them justify the ordinary storylines their films are made of, even going to the extent of making their ventures as multi-starrers, to further derisk the project and keep the production houses this arrangement has suited only these 10-odd vintage heroes of southern cinema. The directors with whom they had given many blockbusters earlier are not given such comfortable timelines to stay the course in cinema if their films bomb at the box-office. The recent examples of directors like showman Shankar and methodical Mani Ratnam, who overestimated their potential and delivered massive duds featuring these stars is a case in point. Even if it is a derated, diluted version of their carefully- crafted onscreen persona, these heroes seem content staying in that ecosystem hardly venturing out to try experimental or experiential cinema. With the total chain of business, dreaming of profit from these movies, like satellite channels, digital media and the ever-growing chain of multiplexes, these legends are cogs in the giant wheel of entertainment and nothing else. The box-office is still their El Dorado, for sure.

Ritu Varma charting her own path
Tell us about Devika and Danny. I've been wanting to do a web series for quite a while but was waiting for something truly unique. While I've worked on anthologies, short films, and mini-series in Telugu and Tamil, I wanted to commit to a full-fledged web series. When this script came my way, I instantly connected with it; the honesty and freshness really stood out. The story revolves around a girl from a small town, born into a conservative Brahmin family. She's grown up in a very sheltered environment and is quite timid and hesitant, always used to others making decisions for her. Her life changes dramatically when she encounters Danny, a ghost. What unfolds is a story of self-discovery, hope, companionship, and the triumph of good over evil. While we were shooting, I had a feeling the audience would like it. But the overwhelming response from friends and family binge-watching it has been so heartwarming. It's a sweet, simple story that seems to have struck a chord with many. What drew you to this project, especially since it's your first web series? For me, the story is always the hero. And my character was beautifully written. What I really loved was the transformation arc; people are used to seeing me in strong, independent roles and as characters who have it all figured out. But here, I play an innocent, naive girl, someone who steps out of her comfort zone and rediscovers herself. That contrast is what really excited me.
