Former SEC star thinks Oklahoma will be ready for Michigan game
The Oklahoma Sooners face a very daunting schedule in 2025. Aside from their grueling eight-game SEC schedule, OU has one of their premier nonconference games of the entire college football season in Week 2.
The Sooners will be hosting the Michigan Wolverines in a battle of blue-blood programs representing the two best conferences in the sport, the SEC and the Big Ten. That game takes place on September 6th.
David Pollack, a former college football analyst for "ESPN College GameDay", believes that the Sooners, who likely won't be favored in that matchup, will be ready for the Wolverines when the time comes.
"That Oklahoma game versus Michigan, if you think that's an easy game to pick, I would disagree," Pollack said. "I think it's a "pick-em" at worst and I might even lean Oklahoma because of what they have continuity-wise. I think Oklahoma is going to come in with more continuity with quarterback and play-caller. Oklahoma has the best defensive line in the SEC. Like, I know that for a fact, like I've watched those guys. Inside, if you want to run the football against those defensive tackles, they are a handful. Oklahoma, I think, is going to be one of the most improved teams in the country, period. When you get John Mateer and you get Ben Arbuckle together, Jaydn Ott at running back, if anybody watched OU's defense last year, you had a lot to like."
This matchup also features two head coaches who will be looking for a signature win for their respective careers and a statement opportunity for their respective teams.
Aside from Texas in 2023 and Alabama in 2024, Brent Venables is short on statement wins as the head coach of the Sooners. Two 6-7 seasons in three years have his seat hot entering 2025.
Sherrone Moore is an OU alum who played for the Sooners during the Bob Stoops era. His Michigan team finished strong a year ago, but fell plenty of rungs in a Big Ten conference that they won for three straight seasons in Moore's first year.
With all of the offseason changes the Sooners have made since last year ended, Oklahoma looks to be in a better position to make more statements in a positive way in 2025.

Jeremy Fears Jr. shares late night social media post on goal to reach Final Four
Jeremy Fears Jr. has made it clear what his goal is during his remaining time as a Spartan: hang another Final Four banner. I personally wouldn't say that is the preseason expectation or prediction from myself, but I love seeing Fears make it clear that's his goal. Ohio State basketball guard Bruce Thornton discusses why he returned to Buckeyes
#Buckeyes Bruce Thornton leaned on his morals when he decided to return for another season; loyal to the program. @OhioStateHoops Loyalty can be a hard thing to come by in the day and age of Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) and the transfer portal. You can't blame college players for looking out for themselves, but it's refreshing when a guy makes a decision based on a commitment and follows through on what he started. That's where Ohio State guard Bruce Thornton comes in. During his three years in Columbus, the Buckeyes have yet to reach the NCAA Tournament. The program has been in purgatory, trying to get back to where it once was, and he's thought to be a key part of that. It has to be disappointing to not experience some of the things Thornton thought he would when he committed to play on the banks of the Olentangy, so nobody could really blame him if he decided to move on to another program for his last season in college. That's not what happened, though. Instead, Thornton decided to come back to Columbus for his last season to help lead the team to where he thinks it can go. When asked by Kellyanne Stitts of the ABC affiliate in Columbus, WSYX, on what went into his decision to return to Ohio State, Thornton pointed to unfinished business. "I've always been a loyal guy," Thornton said. "Me being here just sticking it out just showing love back to Ohio State because they've been nothing but great to me this whole time since I've been here throughout the whole process, good, bad and ugly, so it just felt right to do it one more time. Thornton was then asked about all of the new guys on the team this season and how things are coming together, and he felt quite optimistic. "We have a lot of new guys this year, and I'm very excited," said Thornton. "I feel like our chemistry and our camaraderie together to try to build each and every day the best way we can each and every day so that we can be the best team we can possibly be." But there always has to be improvement to continue to move things forward, so the All-Big Ten performer was then asked what he's looking for in his game coming into the season. "I'm just trying to win games. I don't care what else I do, just make sure I win games and put a banner up in our practice gym, that's it." There seems to be more optimism coming out of the program this year. Something feels a little different, but of course, things have to happen on the court for the program to start to get back to one of the best in the Big Ten, and by extension, the country. Texas A&M 2026 prospects named as top high school football commits of June
The month of June was a massive one for Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko, as he landed commitments from multiple top-ranked prospects in the 2026 class. This month alone, the Aggies have landed two five-star and three four-star recruits that have moved the program up to No. 4 in 247 Sports Team Recruiting Rankings. That recruiting success is a testament to the incredible job Elko and company have done by making these athletes feel at home in the Maroon and White. Following On3 Sports' acquisition of Rivals, the site named the top high school commitments of June. The list included the likes of two Texas A&M recruits, both of whom rank in the top 50 players in the country. Brandon Arrington and KJ Edwards are two of the most highly-touted recruits that the Aggies have landed from the class of 2026. Both are ranked as the No. 2 players in the country at their position, according to 247 Sports Player Rankings, and will provide the program with electric speed and tenacity on the gridiron when they arrive in College Station next year. Arrington is a five-star defensive back prospect from Columbus, Ga., who has all the intangibles to succeed at the next level. The top-ranked athlete prospect in the nation chose Texas A&M over schools like Penn State, Washington, Alabama and Oregon, as he made it known that Aggieland would be his new home. "The relationship goes back to day one, for real," he said per ESPN. "They've been locked in with me, recruiting me hard from the very start. The environment feels like home. The people care about football here." Ranked at No. 9 on the list from Rivals is Edwards, who announced his commitment to the Aggies on June 17. The Carthage, Texas, native's tape speaks for itself, as the ferocious running back has displayed an innate ability to maneuver through defenders and break tackles with incredible speed. Those attributes will make him an outstanding asset to Elko's offense in 2026. During his junior season, Edwards rushed for 1,798 yards and 23 touchdowns, while also hauling in 383 receiving yards and three touchdowns through the air. He makes everything he does on the gridiron look easy, as he uses his quickness and shiftiness to dominate on the ground. His elite footwork and ability to get to the second level quickly are attributes that will be detrimental to have against competition in the Southeastern Conference. Needless to say, Elko hit a grand slam by landing Arrington and Edwards in June. Texas A&M's overall ranking for the 2026 class was boosted tenfold when both superstar athletes announced their commitments to the Aggies. The only thing left on the agenda is to get them to College Station so they can begin electrifying the Aggie faithful at Kyle Field next year.
