Amazon Prime fans rush to binge 'incredible' thriller axed 10 years ago
Covert Affairs, which started in 2010, follows the story of Annie Walker – a young CIA trainee who gradually becomes a key agent in the organisation.
Starring Piper Perabo as Annie, the drama ran for five years and produced more than 70 episodes, winning several awards along the way.
Despite being positively received by critics and winning those awards, viewership figures dropped from 6.7 million to 3.3 million over five seasons.
This meant that the show was cancelled in 2014 and didn't return for the 2015 TV calendar, but still rounded off its story with a 16-episode final season.
Now, in 2025, Covert Affairs has become one of the top trending shows on Amazon Prime Video, with people urging other TV viewers on social media to start watching it if they haven't already.
@Ralphydir said: 'Today I was watching Covert Affairs all over again. It's such a fun TV series to watch they had so many episodes in five years and there's always something you wanna see again. The very first episode is incredible.'
@LestatxLouis was particularly ecstatic that the show had returned: 'It's been years since Prime Video took off Covert Affairs and now they've brought it back!'
In Covert Affairs, actor Cristopher Gorham played Auggie Anderson, Annie's CIA handler who was blinded on a previous mission – and fans became almost too familiar with Auggie.
Speaking about Christopher taking on a role in a new TV show, Cindy Cinocco said: 'It's weird seeing [Christopher] not blind. I know he's not – but we got so used to seeing him that way in Covert Affairs.'
Before Covert Affairs came to streaming in the UK, Luke Godfrey lamented its lack of availability on these shores: 'Good series. Unfortunately it's not available on any streaming platforms for free here in the UK.'
On IMDb, user Brady Peter said the series 'had [him] glued right throughout' and called the ending 'sensational,' while praising the 'compelling' action sequences in the show.
Chris Fairhall, also on IMDb, said he stayed patient and was rewarded: 'Almost exactly around the middle of season 3, it suddenly gets better and stays that way. The writing, the action, the subterfuge, it becomes an eminently bingeable spy thriller.' More Trending
The series also starred Kari Matchett as senior office Joan Campbell, Anne Dudek as Annie's older sister Danielle, and Sendhil Ramamurthy as CIA office Jai Wilcox.
Covert Affairs was produced by Doug Liman, who directed 2000s films such as Mr and Mrs Smith, Jumper, and The Bourne Identity, before overseeing Edge of Tomorrow (Live Die Repeat) starring Tom Cruise.
David Bartis, who also produced the series, became known for his backroom work on Suits and The OC, as well as films such as the 2008 remake of Knight Rider.

Everything Ballard star Maggie Q has been in from Nikita to Keifer Sutherland drama
Maggie Q has been making a name for herself in Hollywood for more than two decades and has won over a whole host of new fans with her leading role in Ballard. Ballard has finally landed on Prime Video, and viewers are raving about actress Maggie Q's portrayal of Detective Renee Ballard. Anticipation has been building for months ever since Maggie Q's Detective Ballard made an appearance in the final series of Bosch Legacy, assisting Harry Bosch (portrayed by Titus Welliver) with a case. Now, it's Ballard's turn to take centre stage as the drama premiered on Prime Video this week, much to the delight of subscribers who are captivated by the latest crime thriller. In the series, Ballard is charged with leading the cold cases department at the LAPD, supported by a team of volunteers. She grapples with some incredibly intricate cases while also dealing with her own internal battles within the force. As fans eagerly await news of a second series, let's delve into actress Maggie Q's career prior to her role in this Prime Video sensation. Maggie Q career so far Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, Maggie Q, known for her role as Ballard, began her career modelling and acting in Hong Kong, where she starred in action films such as Gen-Y Cops and Naked Weapon. She later transitioned to major American productions, featuring in Mission Impossible III alongside Tom Cruise in 2006 and Live Free or Die Hard the subsequent year with Bruce Willis. Three years on, Q assumed the lead role in the iconic video game Nikita, playing a rogue assassin and spy rebelling against the secret government agency that trained her. Nikita ran for four seasons before concluding in 2013. The following year, she appeared in the sci-fi film Divergent, sharing the screen with Theo James from The Gentlemen and Shailene Woodley from Big Little Lies. In 2014, Q embraced the character of Lieutenant Beth Davis in the drama series Stalker, where she led a team delving into cases of stalking and cyber harassment. The show Stalker marked a pivotal moment for Q, as it was on its set that she encountered her now-husband and former colleague Dylan McDermott. Q's career took another significant turn in 2016 when she secured the role of CIA operative Hannah Wells in Kiefer Sutherland's acclaimed series Designated Survivor, following his success with 24. Since the release of Ballard on Prime Video, Q has been receiving accolades for her performance, with one enthusiast proclaiming she is "absolutely fire", accompanied by a fire emoji. Echoing the sentiment, another viewer expressed their admiration: "Only on the second episode of Ballard but OMG it's brilliant! Maggie Q is perfectly cast as Ballard". Using the "fire" emoji to emphasise their point, yet another fan praised: "Maggie Q is fire in Ballard - smart, serious crime drama done right."

Terrifying 'cursed' 80s horror film arrives on Amazon Prime Video
An iconic 80s horror film dubbed 'devastating' and 'frightening' has finally arrived on Amazon Prime Video. Poltergeist, released in 1982, follows the story of a suburban family whose lives are turned upside down when a malevolent spirit kidnaps their daughter. The Freeling family—made up of Steve (Craig T. Nelson), Diane (JoBeth Williams), teenaged Dana (Dominique Dunne), eight-year-old Robbie (Oliver Robins), and five-year-old Carol Ann (Heather O'Rourke)—seemingly have the perfect life: a happy family, successful careers, and a bright future. But one night, Carol Ann begins communicating with a ghost through their TV set, which initially seems playful and friendly, but things take a sinister turn when the youngster goes missing. Based on a screenplay by Steven Spielberg and directed by Tobe Hooper, Poltergeist was a massive hit at the box office and was nominated for three Academy Awards. The film was followed by Poltergeist II: The Other Side in 1986, Poltergeist III in 1988, and a 2015 remake. It has long been branded a cursed film due to the sheer amount of unusual phenomena that occurred on set, as well as the death of Heather O'Rourke in 1988. O'Rourke was just 12 years old when she died of congenital stenosis of the intestine complicated by septic shock on February 1, before filming of the third film wrapped. Poltergeist currently holds an 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with the critics' consensus reading: 'Smartly filmed, tightly scripted, and—most importantly—consistently frightening, Poltergeist is a modern horror classic.' The Times hailed the film as 'a masterclass in creeping suburban horror', while said it is 'One of the most fun haunted house movies ever made.' Boston Globe wrote: '[It] raises interesting psychological issues in the context of a baroque ghost story. 'It's a devastating commentary on the tv-oriented suburban lifestyle. Finally, it demonstrates the power and efficacy of the story told from the child's point of view.' Looking back at the film in 2007, Slant Magazine added: 'After a quarter-century, Poltergeist remains one of the most popular movies whose reputation rests almost exclusively on behind-the-scenes diversions.' Meanwhile, The New York Times said: 'Poltergeist is like a thoroughly enjoyable nightmare, one that you know that you can always wake up from, and one in which, at the end, no one has permanently been damaged. It's also witty in a fashion that Alfred Hitchcock might have appreciated.' Speaking about the making of the film in 2010, Hooper explained more about the strange happenings on set that have made Poltergeist so legendary. More Trending 'Almost everyone got injured. I used a cane through, like, half of the picture,' he began. 'I woke up one night with a leg cramp. I don't know if you've ever had a cramp in your leg when you wake up, and you start beating on the cramp. And after an hour, it didn't go away. And the cramp was so bad it pulled all the ligaments; it pulled the tendons away from the bone. So I had to walk with. 'But that was a minor injury compared to some of the injuries. No one was killed in the making of the film, but something happened to everyone.' Poltergeist is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video . Got a story? UK viewers escape the heat and binge legendary series free on YouTube
Neighbours fans can mop up their tears following the show's axing, as the legendary Australian soap can now be watched from the very beginning. What better way to escape the scorching temperatures hitting the country this weekend by watching other people experiencing the same thing? Sounds perfect to us. Hopefully it should also help to soften the devastating blow that the serial drama wrapped production today. It really is the end of an era, and the third time in 40 years that the cameras have stopped rolling – though it looks unlikely that there will be any chance of a revival after Amazon Prime Video pulled the plug. The streaming giant not only owns the rights to make new episodes, but also host an archive of classic episodes, as well as every instalment from 2012 onwards. Whether or not the serial will remain on the platform after the finale on 11th December remains to be seen, but for now, grieving viewers can take some comfort in the fact distributors Fremantle Media have began daily uploads on video sharing site YouTube. The Neighbours Classics channel is currently up to episode 595, which aired on 9th October 1987 in its home country, and on 2nd February 1989 in the UK. A more contemporary offering is hosted by the Neighbours Ramsay St channel, which is currently on episode 7065, from 2015. There hasn't been much fanfare about the new additions, though it hasn't took long for those dedicated to the show to track them down. 'I really wish I hadn't seen this. There goes my social life,' said one on Reddit. 'Hopefully they keep going,' said another. A third added: 'This is great hopefully they show every old ep.' There's some good news if you're fancying a nostalgic binge watch from the start – it's instantly familiar as the show that has gone on to become a global phenomenon. Paul Robinson (Stefan Dennis) is roaming Ramsay Street, while his mate Shane Ramsay (Peter O'Brien) – who recently returned – lives next door. Things were a lot simpler in 1985, with just three families creating the drama. There was no Lassiters Complex or hotel, as they didn't arrive until the following year. We're first introduced to Shane's younger brother Danny (David Clencie), who is suffering intense nightmares about his brother's diving career, becoming a huge concern for parents Max (Francis Bell) and Maria (Dasha Blahova). In No. 26, cheeky chappy Paul (yes, there were days before he was a ruthless businessman) lives with dad Jim (Alan Dale), grandmother Helen Daniels (Anne Haddy) and his siblings Julie (Vikki Blanche), Scott (Darius Perkins) and Lucy (Kylie Flinker). It wouldn't be until episode 188 that Jason Donovan would take over the role of Scott, making him one of Neighbours' most iconic characters. Want to be the first to hear shocking EastEnders spoilers? Despite that, executive producer Jason Herbsion recently ruled out his return in the next finale, following on from his much-hyped reappearance in 2022. Viewers tuning into the classic episodes raged that Scott and Charlene's iconic wedding episode had been 'destroyed' earlier this month. Unfortunately, due to licensing restrictions, the song 'Suddenly' by Angry Anderson has been stripped out from the YouTube upload. More Trending Completing the early days cast is Des Clarke (Paul Keane), who is in for quite the surprise at his stag do when he meets stripper Daphne Lawrence (Elaine Smith). And that's when good neighbours become good friends! Vintage episodes can be watched now on the Neighbours Classics and Neighbours Ramsay St YouTube channels, with new episodes streaming Monday to Thursday from 7am on Amazon Prime Video.
