Luxury apartment raid in JB uncovers drug den, karaoke hub
Johor police chief Datuk M. Kumar said that in a raid at about 6.30am on June 25, rooms in three apartments of the same block were modified into karaoke lounges for customers to have fun while conveniently buying drug supplies from pushers.
In the raid, police seized drugs including syabu, ecstasy and ketamine worth RM1.72mil, as well as vehicles, cash and jewellery worth RM190,205.
"Intelligence gathering began since the beginning of this year. This group is suspected to be masterminded by locals and became active around March 2025.
"They operated on a small scale, using gated and guarded apartments as locations to store and package drugs," he told a press conference here on Friday (July 4).
He said nine individuals were arrested in the raid, comprising four local men, one local woman, one Singaporean man, two Vietnamese women, and one Laotian woman, aged between 21 and 64.
Initial urine screenings showed all suspects tested positive for methamphetamine. Four of them have previous criminal records related to drugs and other offences, including a 64-year-old Singaporean who is also wanted by authorities in his home country for drug-related crimes
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Section 108 of the Road Transport Act 1987 with all suspects now remanded until Saturday (July 5) to assist in further investigation. - Bernama

Fifth body found in Belawai boat tragedy, five still missing
MUKAH: The death toll from the Belawai boat tragedy has risen to five after another victim was recovered today. Search operations continue for five missing individuals following the capsizing incident off Pantai Belawai. The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department confirmed the recovery of a boy's body at 6 pm, approximately 300 metres from the accident site. His age remains undetermined. 'Five victims have been confirmed dead, five are still missing, and seven were rescued. All missing victims are adult males,' said a department spokesperson. Teacher Accused Of Molesting 16-Year-Old Student With Disability
SEREMBAN, July 6 (Bernama) – A 16-year-old female student with an intellectual disability has alleged that a teacher molested her at a school in Rembau on May 5. Rembau police chief Supt Hasani Hussain said the student, who is enrolled in the Integrated Special Education Programme (PPKI), lodged a report at 5.15 pm yesterday, alleging she was molested by a 36-year-old male teacher around 10.40 am. Initial investigations revealed the incident occurred after the student had completed a cross-country run and was experiencing leg pain.
