NFL All Quarter Century Team: Players from the NFC West

NFL All Quarter Century Team: Players from the NFC West

USA Today19-06-2025
As we are in the dead of the offseason and there is almost nothing happening in the NFL until late July, now we get lists and rankings. ESPN put together an All Quarter Century Team for the NFL, constructing a 53-man roster with the best players of the last 25 years.
The roster is sprinkled with a few of Arizona Cardinals players, some who played for Arizona at the end of their careers and others who were longtime Cardinals, as well as players who spent time with all of the teams in the NFC West.
Who made the list?
NFL All Quarter Century Team: Players from the NFC West
Arizona Cardinals
OL Alan Faneca
DL Calais Campbell
DL J.J. Watt
CB Patrick Peterson
Faneca barely counts as a Cardinal as he is famous for his time with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but he played his final NFL season in Arizona as a starter.
Campbell is an awesome addition because at no point in his career has he been considered a top-five defensive lineman. But his consistent production over nearly two decades earns him a spot.
Peterson was dominant for his first eight seasons in Arizona.
Watt was one of the best defenders we have seen. He spent the last two seasons of his career in Arizona and had 12.5 sacks in his last season in 2022.
LA Rams
DL Aaron Donald
LB Bobby Wagner
Donald is an obvious choice. Wagner also has been one of the best linebackers this generation, but he only played one season with the Rams.
San Francisco 49ers
RB Christian McCaffrey
FB Kyle Juszczyk
WR Terrell Owens
WR Randy Moss
OT Trent Williams
CB Richard Sherman
OC Kyle Shanahan
The 49ers have a ton of players on this list, although Moss only spent a season with them. Sherman's best came with Seattle.
Seattle Seahawks
OL Steve Hutchinson
LB Bobby Wagner
CB Richard Sherman
All three players were generational.

Giants star Malik Nabers describes memorable moment vs. Commanders

Every rookie has a "Welcome to the NFL" moment. For New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers, that moment came in last season's Week 2 loss to the Washington Commanders. While most will remember the game for the Commanders' victory, achieved by kicking seven field goals and rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels securing his first NFL win, Nabers had a critical drop in the game that could have clinched the win for New York. Despite the drop, Nabers had a phenomenal game, catching 10 passes for 127 yards and his first NFL touchdown. The Commanders had no answer for Nabers. Advertisement So, when did Nabers arrive at his "Welcome to the NFL" moment? It came courtesy of Washington linebacker Frankie Luvu. "I ran like a shallow (cross), it was like third and 4, I think, third and 5, I ran the shallow, I caught the ball and I was going up the field on the right sideline, and one of the linebackers he came and hit me," Nabers told Dale Earnhardt Jr., in an episode of "Taking Laps with Dale Jr." "I seen him (Luvu) in my peripheral, but it's like I thought he was farther than what I expected. So I'm cutting, I'm telling (tight end) Theo (Johnson), 'block the corner that's right there,' and I'm going to try to cut backside because the dude's not going to catch like he just magically just appeared right there. He smacked me, I ain't gonna lie. It looked harder than what it seemed. He hit me, I popped right up, and I was like 'OK, alright, now I'm in the league.'" You can view the episode here. Courtesy of Nate on X, we have the play, just as Nabers described. Nabers would have a terrific rookie season even if the Giants struggled. However, he was overshadowed by Daniels, his best friend and college quarterback at LSU. Daniels was named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, while Nabers finished fifth behind Daniels, Raiders TE Brock Bowers, Broncos QB, and Jaguars WR Brian Thomas Jr. (Daniels and Nabers' teammate at LSU). Former Washington NFL stars named July 4 Parade Grand Marshals

Former Washington Redskins Clinton Portis and Ryan Kerrigan will be celebrating July 4 in Middletown, Va. The two former Redskins stars are not only celebrating our nation's independence in Middletown, but they are also being honored, as they have been named grand marshals for the July 4 Middletown parade. A third grand marshal has been named, Lauryn Ricketts, a meteorologist with WRC-TV and WTOP-FM in Washington, D.C. Advertisement Portis before playing with the Redskins, was a Miami Hurricane prior to being drafted by the Denver Broncos. When Redskins cornerback Champ Bailey threatened to boycott training camp if they used the NFL franchise tag on him, Washington traded Bailey and a second-round draft choice to the Broncos for Portis. Playing in 113 NFL games, Portis rushed for 9,923 yards, averaging 4.4 yards a carry and scoring 75 NFL touchdowns. Following his NFL career, Portis was voted one of the Washington Redskins' greatest 80 players to mark the 80th anniversary of the franchise. Kerrigan played in 172 NFL games, all but one season in Washington, where he accumulated 95.5 quarterback sacks. The former first-round draft choice (16th overall) by the Redskins in the 2011 NFL draft, accumulated 333 solo tackles while also forcing 26 fumbles. Playing 10 seasons in Washington (his one final season in Philadelphia), Kerrigan became the Washington all-time quarterback sacks leader with 95.5. The four-time Pro Bowler led the NFL in 2016 with 18 tackles for a loss. Advertisement 'We're excited that they're coming and we're looking forward to a wonderful July 4th celebration,' Mayor Charles Harbaugh said. 'We're really throwing everything but the kitchen sink at it.' The mayor was referring to a full slate of activities on tap for Independence Day, starting with a Big Ball softball tournament at 8 a.m. and ending with a fireworks show at 9:15 p.m. Events will be held at various locations in town but most will occur in Middletown Community Park. The centerpiece of Middletown's July 4th celebration is its parade. Organizer Katie Garrett said that as of Thursday morning, 76 entries were set to participate. The parade will step off at 5 p.m. and wind its way along Main Street. This article originally appeared on Commanders Wire: Two former Washington NFL stars celebrating July 4 in Virginia parade

Mark Kaboly shares troubling update on Steelers' wide receiver pursuit

Don't hold your breath on Pittsburgh adding additional wide receivers this offseason — as insider Mark Kaboly shed light on what position the Steelers are really after. The recent Minkah Fitzpatrick trade left the Steelers with a glaring hole at safety — and Kaboly doesn't believe FS Juan Thornhill is the long-term answer. Advertisement During Thursday's appearance on 93.7 The Fan, Kaboly was asked whether he thinks the Steelers will sign a safety over a wide receiver — here was his response: "Yeah, probably," Kaboly said. "I mean, they love Calvin Austin, man. They think Roman Wilson can step up. They're intrigued with Robert Woods. Now, at this point [in free agency], what are you going to get? Are you going to get a Keenan Allen that doesn't want to play, or Amari Cooper? … I like Calvin Austin. I don't know if he could take it to that next level that they need to take it to, but I think they're very willing to be able to take that chance to see if he can do it." It's also worth mentioning that many believe newly acquired TE Jonnu Smith could take some snaps at receiver — particularly in the slot — serving as more evidence that the Steelers value their in-house pass catchers over any more signings. Advertisement If the Steelers do pursue another safety in free agency, my money would be on four-time All-Pro Justin Simmons or Julian Blackmon.
