Nat'l-level boxer's daughter shines on basketball court
Tishmeet was a key player in India's Under-16 girls' basketball team that emerged victorious in the SABA qualifying zone held in the Maldives from June 12 to 15. India won all its matches in a dominant fashion, defeating Bangladesh, Maldives, and Sri Lanka. In the final, India again trounced Sri Lanka, winning by more than 50 points. What makes her achievement even more special is that Tishmeet was the only player from north India to make it to the national squad.
Now, having helped India qualify for the final round of the Asian Basketball Championship (ABC), scheduled to be held in Malaysia this Sept, she is preparing to showcase her talent on the international stage.
Pardeep Kaur, now a DPT physical education teacher at DAV School, Pakhowal Road, where Tishmeet is a Class XI student, shared, "I had played at the national level in boxing and told Tishmeet that she must go beyond that and achieve at the international level."

Pardeep is proud of the commitment and discipline of her daughter. "Though Tishmeet draws inspiration from me, it is her hard work that is paying off. She wakes up early for training, goes again in the evening, and has never missed a session. Her dedication is incredible."

IND vs ENG: 'You cannot pick and choose' - Ex-India pacer takes a jibe at Jasprit Bumrah for skipping Edgbaston Test
BIRMINGHAM, ENGLAND - JUNE 30: Jasprit Bumrah of India during a net session at Edgbaston on June 30, 2025 in Birmingham, England. (Photo by) Former India cricketer Irfan Pathan has slammed Jasprit Bumrah for not playing in the second Test against England at Edgbaston. 'If you are selected in the Indian team, you cannot pick and choose (which match to play) to manage your workload,' Pathan said on Sony Sports. 'There is no other bowler like him, he is world-class. But here, you are not missing the match because of injury but for 'workload management'. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! "Now Akash Deep will take his place and be expected to do well as soon as he comes in — and maybe he does — but any bowler needs time to settle in. That continuity is needed.' Pathan also requested the selectors to look past both Bumrah and Shami in the red-ball format. 'This is why I have been saying that Indian cricket has to start thinking about playing without Bumrah and (Mohammed) Shami. They have to start planning for playing without them in Test cricket,' said Pathan. EXCLUSIVE | David Gower on Shubman Gill, Jasprit Bumrah and India's England tour 'The main fast bowler of the lineup cannot play all five Tests overseas, so firstly, India don't have Bumrah's services throughout the series, and secondly, his replacement, a younger player, is only getting a chance to play when he doesn't. So he does not have stability,' he said. "This is the only overseas five-match series of the new World Test Championship cycle. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo This was the series in which Bumrah was needed most. If he had a niggle or an injury, I would understand. But just to manage his workload? Then I don't think this is coming to India's advantage,' he said. India captain Shubman Gill provided a detailed insight into the mindset behind India's approach and the host of changes his side has made for the contest during the toss. 'No Bumrah. Just to manage his workload. We did get a good break, and this is an important match for us. But with the third Test being at Lord's, we think there'll be more in that pitch, so we'll use him there. We were tempted to play Kuldeep, but looking at the last match, our lower order didn't do well, so we decided to add some depth to the batting,' Gill said at the toss. England, who lead the five-match series 1-0, won the toss and opted to bowl first on a pitch expected to assist early seam movement. Sudharsan, who scored 0 and then 30 in the first Test at Headingley, has made way as India sought to recalibrate their top order. The 23-year-old's debut outing was underwhelming, and with the pressure of a must-win encounter, the management opted for a reshuffle. 03:31 Late selection meeting between Gautam Gambhir, Shubman Gill and Ajit Agarkar near pitch? Pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has also been rested, as part of his workload management. His absence has opened the door for the inclusion of Akash Deep, with Shardul Thakur also making way. Kevin Durant and Steve Nash revealed big issues with small guards in modern NBA games
Kevin Durant and Steve Nash. Image via: Mind the Game/ YouTube (screengrab) The NBA has seen a dramatic shift in how teams value certain skill sets, and the modern game may be pushing small guards toward the margins. In a candid discussion on the Mind the Game podcast, Kevin Durant and Hall of Famer Steve Nash discussed the challenges that undersized guards face in today's positionless, switch-heavy league. With playoff success depending more and more on defensive versatility, even talented scorers under 6'2" are struggling to stay impactful on the floor. Kevin Durant and Steve Nash expose growing disadvantages for small guards in today's evolving NBA Kevin Durant, now with the Houston Rockets, didn't hold back when speaking on how the league is evolving. 'I don't know if the 6'2 and under guard is at a premium no more as a starter,' he said. 'Maybe as a backup.' His comments reflect a growing sentiment among players and analysts. In today's scenario, the game is too focused on size and defense for smaller guards to thrive without exceptional tools. The Kevin Durant Interview (Part 1) | LeBron James & Steve Nash | MIND THE GAME Steve Nash agreed but pointed out that only certain body types and playing styles now make the cut. 'It's that either Donovan Mitchell, Jrue Holiday 6'3, Lou Dort,' Nash said. 'Or it's, nah, you got to be (bigger).' Durant expanded on that thought with a harsh truth. 'You can't get picked on on defense,' he said. Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 3BHK Transformation Possible for ₹4.5 Lakh? If you're 6'0, 6'1 and you're not a bulldog like Davion Mitchell, Jrue Holiday on the defensive side or you're not an offensive flat out savant like Kyrie (Irving) where you can score on dudes that's 7'0 easily in ISO, then I just can't see it. ' Their conversation shifted to Cleveland Cavaliers guard Darius Garland, a skilled offensive player who was often targeted on defense during the postseason. Nash praised Garland's game, saying, 'He's an amazing basketball player. We don't talk about him as this amazing (player) because of the era. If he played in any other era, I think his value would be through the roof. He's that skilled. He's water bug. He's got every shot. He can playmake, but it's an era where you also have to help that dude out defensively all the time.' Durant agreed with Nash's points but added, 'If you want a chance to beat the Cleveland Cavaliers, you are going at Darius Garland most the time on the defensive side. That's not saying he's going to get scored on every time. He's just small.' Still, he credited Cleveland's system for trying to cover for Garland's physical limitations. Game On Season 1 continues with Mirabai Chanu's inspiring story. Watch Episode 2 here.
