Rekha pushes for cultural unity via art and festivals

New Delhi: CM Rekha Gupta announced a series of initiatives on Sunday aimed at promoting cultural integration and national unity in Delhi. These initiatives include the inclusion of local artists from various states in regional festivals, promotion of non-Hindi languages among children in Delhi and the launch of a Student Exchange Programme with other states. Gupta stated that the Department of Art, Culture and Languages can play a vital role in this endeavour by broadening the scope of its programmes and activities. "The department must take initiatives beyond designated locations and bring them to the general public to enhance public participation," she said. She directed officials to ensure that regional festivals celebrated in Delhi include artists from the respective states, as this would help generate greater interest in these events. CM also stated that efforts will be made to explore possibilities for teaching non-Hindi languages to children in Delhi, enabling them to understand the social and cultural identities of other states. These directions were given during a recent meeting with the Department of Art, Culture and Languages, which minister Kapil Mishra also attended. The objective of the meeting was to enrich Delhi's cultural landscape and to involve all sections of society. "We want the art and culture of various states to reach every street and for every individual to feel connected to it." She added that theatre and folk arts are powerful tools for spreading awareness and information, often more effectively than other forms of communication.

Will increase aid for Kanwar service committees, says CM

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday announced that the Delhi government will distribute containers filled with Ganga water and jute bags to nearly five lakh Kanwariyas to promote environmental protection. Financial help for Kanwar service committees will be increased, she said after reviewing the arrangements in Kanwar camps at Punjabi Bagh (Ashok Park), Tagore Garden, and Subroto Park. Speaking after her visit, Ms. Gupta said that the Kanwar Yatra is not just a religious journey but a festival. Welcoming Kanwariyas passing through or arriving in Delhi is a way to respect their devotion, she added. 'Delhi government is fully committed to supporting Kanwariyas in every possible way,' she said, adding that ministers, legislators, and government officials had made thorough preparations in advance to ensure the camps run smoothly. After interacting with the Kanwar camp committee members, the CM stressed that distributing jute bags will encourage environmental responsibility and help keep Delhi clean and green. Ms. Gupta said that 374 Kanwar committees have received financial assistance this year. All camps have been equipped with electricity, healthcare services, toilets, and sanitation staff. Welcome gates have also been installed at all Delhi borders to provide a warm reception and improved facilities for the devotees. Ms. Gupta said that only 170 camps were set up under the previous government, and many of them faced allegations of mismanagement. 'This time, people have actively participated, and the government has fully supported them,' she added.
