Arch Manning and the Texas Longhorns enter the 2025 college football season as one of the top contenders in the nation. In his first year as the full-time starter, Manning is also expected to be a top-tier Heisman Trophy candidate.
Over the last couple of years, Manning has patiently sat behind Ewers. He was waited his turn to run a dynamic offense under the leadership of head coach Steve Sarkisian.
There is a lot of hype surrounding Manning entering the 2025 season. He has high expectations to live up to, but he has also faced some unfair criticism.

Despite the expectation and criticism, Manning remained loyal to the Longhorns. He knows just how well he fits in Texas and he wanted to do things the right way.
In response to the criticism that Manning has received, former NFL star quarterback Cam Newton spoke out and did not hold back on the young Longhorns signal caller.
"A lot of these parents and a lot of these players get so jaded off of the fact that, 'hey, I'm trying to play early,'" Newton said. "Scratch that. Go somewhere that after three years, you can put yourself in the position to go to the league."
Newton continued on, revealing more about his thoughts on Manning staying at Texas. He thinks the young quarterback learned a lot from Ewers.
"Arch would be a fool if he has not learned anything from Quinn Ewers," he said. "How he prepared, how he lead his team, and just how he handled and managed the expectations for being a quarterback at a university like Texas."

Manning has received a lot of praise from those who have been in his position. He did not leave a perfect situation just to play earlier. The same cannot be said from many young rising stars.
During the 2024 college football season, Manning received some valuable playing time behind Ewers. He completed 67.8 percent of his passes for 939 yards, nine touchdowns, and two interceptions, while running for 108 yards and four more scores.
While he hasn't seen the field a lot, he has some experience. It will be interesting to see what he's able to do as the full-time starter surrounded by a lot of elite talent this season.

Jaguars Pro Bowler Josh Hines-Allen Has Cautionary Travis Hunter Message
Jaguars Pro Bowler Josh Hines-Allen Has Cautionary Travis Hunter Message originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Travis Hunter has taken the NFL world by storm with his ridiculous two-way talent. The former Colorado Buffaloes star is set to play both cornerback and wide receiver roles in his rookie season with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Advertisement Hunter charted 96 passes for 1,258 yards, 15 touchdowns and four interceptions while keeping a dual role last season with the Buffaloes, winning the Heisman Trophy. However, it won't be an easy task in the NFL, where he will go toe-to-toe against the elites. The 22-year-old needs to balance both offensive and defensive responsibilities while staying healthy in the process. During an episode of "The Rich Eisen Show," Jaguars defensive end Josh Hines-Allen made a bold statement about Hunter's dual role. Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver and cornerback Travis Hunter (12). Travis Register-Imagn Images "I think, I mean, what plagues every NFL player or any professional athlete is injuries," Hines-Allen said. "If he can stay healthy and take care of his body, get in the hyperbaric machine, then yes, I think he has a great career ahead of him on both sides of the ball." Advertisement "Again, if he is the best DB? Is he the best wide receiver? Who knows. But is he a great playmaker on both sides? Absolutely." The two-time Pro Bowler has no doubts about Hunter's work ethic and talent. He added that the Jaguars have playmakers at both his positions, and the rookie doesn't have to carry "all that burden" on either side. "Offensively, we've got Brian Thomas Jr., he stepped up last year and did his thing, and we expect the same this year. So, all the burden doesn't have to fall on Travis. Just catch the ball, make some got a number one receiver out here who we know is gonna make a lot of plays," Hines-Allen said. "On the other side, you go look at corner one, you got Tyson Campbell, who's been having one of the best camps that I've seen him have. So, you have another guy that can travel and can play the offense's best receiver. The pressure is just for him [Hunter] obviously to stay healthy." Advertisement Hunter signed a four-year, $46.65 million contract that includes a fifth-year team option, which the Jaguars can exercise in the spring of 2028. He is the first non-quarterback not drafted first overall to receive his entire signing bonus upfront. The Jaguars expect a lot from their star rookie. They have given up a significant amount of draft capital to trade up and land him. Jacksonville will need Hunter to step up and combine with their star quarterback, Trevor Lawrence, to take the franchise to the top. Jaguars' Travis Hunter Issued Warning on Monday
Jaguars' Travis Hunter Issued Warning on Monday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Travis Hunter is arguably the most talked-about rookie entering the 2025 NFL season. The Jacksonville Jaguars' first-round pick has astonished fans and experts alike with his two-way potential. Hunter showed that he can exceed expectations while balancing both offensive and defensive responsibilities last year with the Colorado Buffaloes. Hunter charted 96 passes for 1,258 yards, 15 touchdowns, and four interceptions last season with the Buffaloes, winning the Heisman Trophy. However, the big question is whether the 22-year-old will be able to replicate those performances and numbers in the NFL. During an episode of "NFL Live," reporter Kimberley Martin shared a hot take on Hunter's dual role. "Here's what I love about football players. I love that you guys are so confident. Come into the league thinking, 'Yeah, I could do anything.' I love that," Martin said. "Here's my caution for Travis Hunter because I remember since the combine, and he talked about, 'Yeah, I could do it all.' My only caution is temper the expectations just a little bit because I think he could be a phenomenal corner in the NFL personally, but the NFL is different." Martin compared the competition at the college level to what it takes to compete with the elites of the game. "It's not college. What you're able to do, these guys on opposite you, they get paid just as much money to stop you from doing whatever it is that you want to do. He's got tremendous instincts, but the season is longer. The guys across from you are just as big, just as physical," she said. The NFL reporter dropped a reality check for the No. 2 overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft. "I think packages are cool, I just want him to sort of temper the expectations because if he thinks, 'Oh, I can be this great player that I was in college.' I think a lot of people are going to be disappointed because it's just not that simple," Martin wrapped up her statement. While the debate and speculations about Hunter's production continue, neither the team nor the player has made any statement about the rookie's workload management. However, in May, Jaguars GM James Gladstone said that plans might dictate usage differently. Last month, the Jaguars handed Hunter a four-year, $46.65 million contract with a fifth-year team option, which Jacksonville can exercise in the spring of 2028. The deal made him the first non-quarterback not drafted first overall to receive his entire signing bonus upfront. The Jaguars' coaching staff and management know they must stay cautious about Hunter's workload. The franchise has parted ways with significant draft capital to acquire him. Only time will tell if the decision was worth it. Hunter has been training with star quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who's coming off arguably the worst season of his career. If the Hunter-Lawrence duo clicks, Jacksonville might return to the playoffs after two years. This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jul 8, 2025, where it first appeared.

USC football picks up projection to land Class of 2027 four-star QB Peyton Houston
While USC football is still continuing to put together its top-ranked 2026 recruiting class, it is never too early to start thinking about 2027. It seems Lincoln Riley and Chad Bowden have been doing that. On Monday, the Trojans picked up a projection from Steve Wiltfong and Sam Spiegelman of Rivals to land four-star class of 2027 quarterback Peyton Houston. Houston plays high school football in Cotton Valley, Louisiana. Per the On3 Industry rankings, he is the No. 78 overall player and the No. 8 quarterback in the class of 2027. If USC is able to land Houston, it would mark the third consecutive recruiting cycle that the Trojans secured a QB ranked among the top 100 players in his class. USC signed five-star Husan Longstreet this past year, and currently hold a commitment from four-star Jonas Williams in the class of 2026. It is easy to see why quarterbacks are lining up to play for Riley. Across his time at USC and Oklahoma, he has produced three Heisman Trophy-winning QBs, all of whom went on to be selected No. 1 overall in the NFL Draft. A fourth, Jalen Hurts, was the 2019 Heisman runner-up, and just led the Philadelphia Eagles to a Super Bowl championship. If all three quarterbacks stick with the Trojans, it could set up a potentially loaded QB competition down the line. For now, however, USC enters the 2025 season with Jayden Maiava as the expected starter, with Longstreet and Sam Huard also competing for the job.
