AIADMK a party with ISI logo: EPS

Pudukottai: AIADMK is a party with an 'ISI logo' and has the overwhelming support of the public, so it does not need to conduct campaigns like 'Oraniyil Tamil Nadu' or 'Ungaludan Stalin', said AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) in Pudukottai on Thursday. It was the first day of Makkalai Kaappom, Thamizhagathai Meetpom campaign in the district, where he covered three of its six constituencies. Dismissing the DMK 's campaigns as mere fancy names, he said, "AIADMK need not go door-to-door because it is a party with the ISI symbol and enjoys people's support. DMK has lost the trust of the people and its core voter base. People must be cautious about sharing their phone numbers, as their personal details might be misused and subsequently have their houses looted," he said. "When Stalin was the opposition leader, he collected petitions from the people on the promise of solving them after coming to power. Then why this new initiative now? It's only to deceive the public," he alleged. On AIADMK's alliance with BJP, EPS said the ruling party and the chief minister are unable to digest the fact that the alliance headed by AIADMK will be a winning one in 2026. "In DMK, power is reserved for family members. But in AIADMK even C Vijaya Baskar can become chief minister," he said, pointing to the Viralimalai MLA and ex-health minister who accompanied him. EPS said the DMK govt was soft-pedalling Cauvery–Vaigai–Gundar river linking project for political reasons. "I laid the foundation stone for the project here in Pudukottai. AIADMK aimed to turn barren lands green to benefit farmers. But the DMK govt is not taking the project forward," he said. Listing schemes introduced by the AIADMK govt to support farmers, EPS said the DMK govt is not working in the best interests of the farming community. Before his address in Gandarvakkottai, EPS symbolically drove a tractor to drum up support among the farmer community. In each of his addresses in Gandarvakkottai, Alangudi and Aranthangi, the leader of opposition picked up a local issue of the constituency.

DMK govt. has lost confidence of people: Edappadi Palaniswami

AIADMK general secretary and former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Thursday said the DMK government had lost the confidence of the people. The administration had turned 'anti-people', he charged. He cited the Vengaivayal incident in Pudukottai district where human faeces were mixed in drinking water. Justice was yet to be done in the matter, he said and pointed out that those behind the crime were yet to be brought to book. Speaking as part of his Makkalai Kaappom, Tamizhagathai Meetppom roadshow at Gandharvakottai and Alangudi, the former Chief Minister slammed the DMK government for placing under suspension M. Sundaresan, an 'upright' Deputy Superintendent of Police of Mayiladuthurai, and prevented him from discharging his duty in the Prohibition Enforcement Wing. If police officers faced such a situation who will protect the people, Mr. Palaniswami wondered. Prices of various items had shot up under the DMK government, he said and alleged that Chief Minister Stalin was least concerned about the welfare of the people. Terming the DMK a 'corporate company' with Mr. Stalin as chairman and his family members as the directors, Mr. Palaniswami alleged it had 'looted' the State and 'sucked the blood' of the people. Is Tamil Nadu a family property of the DMK? he asked and wondered whether the family members of the DMK alone could rule the State. The 2026 Assembly election provides a chance to the people to put an end to the 'dynastic rule' of the DMK whose model of governance had proved to be a failure. Mr. Palaniswami said the Cauvery-Gundar river interlinking project launched during the AIADMK regime was put on the back burner during the DMK government due to political vendetta. The ₹14,000-crore project would be executed once the AIADMK returned to power, he added.

Government committed to gradual reduction of TASMAC outlets: Minister Muthusamy

Minister for Housing, Prohibition and Excise, S. Muthusamy, on Thursday (July 24, 2025) reiterated that the State government is committed to the gradual reduction of the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation Limited (TASMAC) liquor outlets. He said the 500 outlets that have already been closed would neither be reopened nor relocated. Addressing mediapersons, the Minister responded to opposition allegations concerning the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) actions related to TASMAC offices. 'Let them present what violations the ED has found. If any wrongdoing is identified, corrective action will be taken,' he said. He added that there was no evidence of unpaid excise duty or government inaction. 'If minor lapses have occurred, they are individual errors, and necessary action has already been taken by the TASMAC administration,' he noted. Reaffirming the government's approach, Mr. Muthusamy said the aim is to phase out TASMAC outlets in a way that avoids negative social consequences. 'A sudden shutdown could drive people toward illegal or unsafe alternatives. Hence, the government is proceeding responsibly,' he said. Defending the government's public outreach initiatives, including the Ungaludan Stalin programme, which was criticised by AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, the Minister said that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has been receiving petitions directly from the public across various platforms for the past four-and-a-half years. 'As the volume of petitions increased, it placed significant pressure on officials. The Ungaludan Stalin scheme was introduced to streamline grievance redressal. Monitoring officers have been appointed, and lakhs of petitions have already been resolved. This initiative is unprecedented in the State's administrative history,' he said. Responding to Mr. Palaniswami's accusation that the DMK has 'swallowed' the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), Mr. Muthusamy said, 'The DMK and VCK share a strong alliance. All coalition partners are united. The DMK treats every ally equally and respects their leaders. That is why we have been able to maintain unity despite differences of opinion.'
