Three lives lost in a week of bloodshed
A deadly wave of violence has struck eMalahleni, leaving three men dead in separate incidents marked by gunfire, fear, and alleged mob justice.
Police are investigating all cases as murders and are appealing to the public for any information that could help bring the killers to justice.
The first tragedy unfolded at a family ritual gathering in Thushanang, where the atmosphere of prayer and tradition was shattered by gunshots.
According to police, on June 29, two unknown men stormed the yard and demanded cellphones.
One was reportedly armed. Witnesses say the suspect became aggressive, forcing people into the garage.
But when one family member, described as mentally challenged, refused to hand over his phone and tried to flee, the suspect allegedly opened fire.
The man was struck multiple times and died at the scene.
Just three days earlier, a man was found slumped over the steering wheel of his Mazda, riddled with bullets.
The shooting happened along a street in Extension 16.
According to police, the man was shot through the rear window of his vehicle.
The bullets tore through his chest and exited through the driver's door.
Unable to control the car, he veered off the road and came to a stop in a ditch.
He was declared dead on the scene.
In yet another grim case, a man accused by residents of harassing the community was allegedly beaten to death near a tavern in KwaGuqa Extension 10 on June 24.
Police say they were called to the scene to find the victim badly injured. He was rushed to Witbank General Hospital but pronounced dead on arrival.
