Ahead of this weekend's massive two-night SummerSlam event, WWE has officially concluded its countdown of the 25 greatest matches in the history of the show. The iconic Intercontinental Championship match between Bret "The Hitman" Hart and "The British Bulldog" Davey Boy Smith from 1992 has claimed the coveted top spot.
The countdown has been playing out on WWE's digital platforms over the past several weeks. The final reveal celebrates a bout that is widely considered to be one of the greatest matches in company history.
The Greatest SummerSlam Match Ever
The main event of SummerSlam 1992 was a masterclass in storytelling, held in front of over 80,000 passionate fans at London's Wembley Stadium. The match was for the Intercontinental Championship, marking one of the rare times the title headlined a major pay-per-view.
The storyline was deeply personal, as it pitted two brothers-in-law against each other, with Bret's sister and Bulldog's wife, Diana Hart, torn between them at ringside. In a legendary performance, Bret Hart carried an exhausted British Bulldog through a 25-minute technical classic, culminating in Bulldog winning the title in his home country in an incredibly emotional moment.
Rounding Out The Top Five
The rest of the top five is a showcase of legendary encounters from different eras. The number two spot went to the 2016 dream match between John Cena and AJ Styles, a bout that saw Styles score a clean, star-making victory over the face of the company.

Bret Hart featured heavily at the top of the list. His 1991 technical masterpiece against Mr. Perfect, where he won his first Intercontinental Championship, was ranked number three. His classic 1994 steel cage match against his brother, Owen Hart, for the WWF Championship, came in at number five.
The number four spot was claimed by the brutal "The Best vs. The Beast" No Disqualification match from 2013 between CM Punk and Brock Lesnar. That match was the violent culmination of Paul Heyman's betrayal of CM Punk.

As soon as I they started this countdown I knew this would be number 1 & fair play because it's an iconic match. Would it be my number 1? I'm not entirely sure what my number 1 would be but as I say an iconic match held in the UK which is special. — Daniel(SDMN) (@TheYOLOArtist) July 30, 2025
Is 2002 the only year to have back to back matches on the list? — Markin' Out (@MarkinOut) July 30, 2025
Not mad at it. Good graps — JA (@ReceiptTalk) July 30, 2025
Bret Hart is the greatest in-ring storyteller in wrestling history. It's really not even close. Out of respect, the next two spots should be left empty. — BizarroBabyface (@BizarroBabyface) July 30, 2025
That was storytelling magic. Well deserved. — Mikey! (@MegaMikey81) July 30, 2025
It shouldn't be the greatest match ever... It doesn't worth to be in the no 1 greatest match ever — Enzorealestfan💙🇦🇷 (@IfeoluwaAj11) July 30, 2025
I had a feeling it would be this one. The crowd in Wembley. The family infighting. First time an IC title Main Evented a PPV.
I'm still of the opinion Brett vs. Perfect is the better wrestling match, but I can definitely understand the spectacle nature of this match. — Jorge Edwards (@JorgeBEdwards) July 30, 2025

Puppy Playing in the Dark Discovers Shadow—Owner Can't Cope With Reaction

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Internet viewers have found a new superstar in the form of a dog who has discovered his shadow. TikTok user Lee, who posts under the username @lee_401, is the proud owner of two dogs: Gracie the "gentle giant"; and yellow Labrador retriever Max, who joined the family in 2024. Max is still very much in his puppy phase, and a video of the Labrador discovering his shadow has gone viral—because he was determined to make friends with it. In a clip posted on July 28 and already boasting more than 1.4 million views, Max's owner stands outside, looking at where Max is playing in the yard. It is dark, and the porch lights are casting his shadow huge against the opposing wall. And Max thinks he has found a new friend, as he runs backwards and forwards, left and right, jumping toward all sides, as his shadow copies his every movement. Max tilts his head, looking confused, but his tail continues wagging as he does the play bow, indicating he wants to be friends with the mystery dog. His owner captioned the sweet video: "Max made a new friend named 'Shadow'." And TikTok users instantly fell in love, awarding the video close to 250,000 likes in a matter of days, as one commenter wrote: "Your black lab is just as fast as your other dog." Another suggested the interaction would "make a great Pixar short," as a third posted: "I also thought there was another dog there, don't worry little guy." That user wasn't the only one, as another said they "legit thought he was playing with a larger black dog," and a third agreed: "It took me a hot minute to realize there was only one dog." Max chases his own shadow, trying to play with it. Max chases his own shadow, trying to play with it. TikTok @lee_401 Some commenters worried chasing shadows was not a good sign: while young dogs may do it for play, or out of curiosity and excitement, some canines can develop compulsive shadow-chasing in the form of Compulsive Canine Disorder, similar to OCD in humans, according to a vet-reviewed report by Dogster. However, Max's owner assured one concerned commenter that Max is just "being a puppy." "He has a sister he plays with all the time, he goes to doggy day care, and he goes and visits one of his littermates," Lee said. Newsweek has contacted @lee_401 via TikTok for comment on this story. By the end of the clip, the pair are captured nestled comfortably against their new owner, a moment of peace replacing their earlier anxiety. Jason Momoa at the "Highest 2 Lowest" red carpet at the 78th annual Cannes Film Festival at Palais des Festivals in Cannes, France, on May To Know On Monday, Momoa posted an Instagram video of himself shaving, saying once the beard was gone, "I hate it." The post has received more than 70,000 likes. In the video, Momoa also said, "Only for you, Denis," referencing Dune filmmaker Denis Villeneuve. The actor starred in 2021's Dune as Duncan Idaho. After sitting out Dune: Part Two, Momoa confirmed that he would return in the third installation of the franchise. He previously shaved his beard in 2019 ahead of filming for the first movie. In Dune, Momoa's character is the sword master and mentor to Timothée Chalamet's character, Paul Atreides. Toward the end of the film, Momoa's character sacrifices himself. In the books, he eventually returns as a clone. It is unclear whether Villeneuve will follow that plot point in the third film. Dune: Part Three features returning cast members Chalamet, Zendaya and Florence Pugh. The film is also set to feature Nakoa-Wolf Momoa, Momoa's teenage son with actor Lisa Bonet. Bonet and Momoa announced their split in 2022, and the two divorced in 2024. They have two children together, Nakoa-Wolf and daughter Lola Iolani. Momoa previously bid farewell to his facial hair in a 2019 YouTube video, which he also used to raise awareness of his aluminum bottle water brand. He said in that video that he hadn't shaved since 2012. In Monday's Instagram post, Momoa likewise featured his bottled water company, Mananalu. "I launched @mananalu to help eliminate single-use plastic. Now, we're taking it even further, partnering with our team at @Getboomerangwater to bring in a closed-loop system that sanitizes and bottles water onsite," he wrote in the caption. "That means even less waste, reduced shipping footprint, and our aluminum bottles get reused over and over," he continued. Momoa added: "This is the future, and we're starting in Hawai'i. Let's get rid of single-use plastic. For our children and for our planet." What People Are Saying Jason Momoa wrote on Instagram on Monday: "Haven't shaved in six years, and here we are again." What Happens Next Dune: Part Three is expected to land in theaters in December 2026.
