Parliamentary panel recommends RRTS link between IGI and Jewar Airports
New Delhi, Jul 22 (PTI) A parliamentary panel has recommended that the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry connect the Indira Gandhi International Airport and the under-construction Jewar airport through the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridors.
The Standing Committee on Housing and Urban Affairs, chaired by Magunta Sreenivasulu Reddy, appreciated the efforts of the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) for ensuring multimodal integration of RRTS with other transport modes such as metro rail, railways, inter-state bus terminals (ISBTs), bus depots and expressways.
In its report, the committee emphasised that Jewar Airport is expected to become a key transport hub for residents of Ghaziabad, Gautam Budh Nagar, and nearby areas in the future. The growth of dense residential areas, employment opportunities, entertainment zones, educational institutions, and healthcare facilities along the Ghaziabad-Noida-Greater Noida corridor makes it even more crucial to connect these areas through a fast, safe, reliable, and efficient transport system like RRTS.
'The integration of RRTS will not only improve connectivity but will also enhance the ridership and financial viability of the Delhi-Meerut Corridor. It will provide much-needed connectivity to Jewar Airport, a vital node in the region's transportation network," the committee said.
The panel also noted that two major transport nodes in Delhi-NCR — Indira Gandhi International Airport and Jewar Airport — are yet to be integrated with the RRTS network. Regarding the IGIA-RRTS integration, the committee acknowledged that earlier it had been informed the linkage would be implemented via the Delhi-SNB corridor. 'However, the DPR (Detailed Project Report) for this corridor is currently being revisited by NCRTC," it said.
The committee, therefore, recommended that both airports be connected to the RRTS network to boost regional connectivity and streamline passenger movement.
On the matter of public safety and comfort, the panel recommended conducting a study on the impact of vibrations from the Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor on nearby structures, including residential buildings, offices, hospitals, and educational institutions. It also suggested the installation of sound barriers to minimize disturbance to residents and users of these facilities.
'The installation of sound barriers is important to prevent inconvenience to the public due to the operation of Namo Bharat trains," the committee added.
Regarding medical provisions, the committee noted that first-aid services have been established, and NCRTC has partnered with hospitals within a 10-kilometre radius of the Delhi-Meerut corridor for emergency medical support. Home buyers fraud: ED secures custody of 2 Ramprastha Group directors
Gurugram, Jul 23 (PTI) The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) on Wednesday secured two-day custody of Sandeep Yadav and Arvind Walia, promoters of Haryana-based realty company Ramprastha Group, in connection with a money laundering probe linked to an alleged Rs 1,100 crore fraud with homebuyers. The two were arrested on Monday after the Gurugram zonal office of the federal probe agency raided three premises in Delhi and Gurugram, including those of the directors, early morning on that day. Yadav and Walia are directors and majority shareholders in Ramprastha Promoters and Developers Pvt Ltd (RPDPL). They were taken into custody under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The federal probe agency produced the two in the court of an additional session judge, following which the ED secured their custody. The agency conducted a survey against the group in September 2024. It is alleged that the RPDPL collected about Rs 1,100 crore from more than 2,000 homebuyers for various housing schemes like Project Edge, Project Skyz, Project Rise and Ramprastha City (plotted colony project) in various sectors of Gurugram during 2008-11. The possession of the flats or plots is yet to be given, even after 15-20 years, the sources said. Earlier this month, the agency attached colonies and plots spread across more than 1,900 acres and worth over Rs 681.54 crore of the group in Gurugram as part of this investigation. The money laundering case stems from multiple FIRs filed by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi and Haryana Police based on complaints of numerous homebuyers against RPDPL and its promoters, like Yadav, Walia and Balwant Chaudhary for their 'failure" to deliver promised flats and plots within the promised timeframes, the ED had said in a statement. The company and its promoters 'diverted" the funds sources from buyers of these projects to its group companies as advances for the purchase of land parcels, instead of using them for completion of promised homes, it had said. Pilot loses Rs 3.16 crore in share market investment fraud

Mumbai, July 23 (PTI) A 56-year-old pilot was allegedly cheated of Rs 3.16 crore by cyber fraudsters under the guise of offering attractive returns in share trading, Mumbai Police said on Wednesday. The pilot was then added to a WhatsApp group and started receiving investment tips. After some days, the woman asked him to download the SMC Global Securities app. He subsequently invested in shares as per the tips. He deposited over Rs 3.16 crore in various bank accounts shared by the woman until July 11, the police official said. The pilot's wife had downloaded the app and found that her investment generated Rs 6.73 crore profit, while the profit in her husband's account showed Rs 15.82 crore. On July 11, the pilot, who works with Air India, contacted the company as he wanted to withdraw the money. The call was attended by an 'official' of the securities' company who asked him to deposit an additional 10 per cent. The pilot realised that he was being taken for a ride and lodged a complaint with the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal and approached West Region Cyber Police Station on July 19, the official said. Police registered a case against unidentified cyber fraudsters under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and the Information Technology Act, he said, adding that further investigation is underway. BEML secures Rs 293.81 crore defence order for 150 high mobility vehicles
Bengaluru, Jul 23 (PTI) BEML Limited, a Schedule 'A' public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Defence, on Wednesday said it has received an order worth Rs 293.81 crore from the Ministry of Defence for the supply of 150 indigenously designed high mobility vehicles (HMVs) 6×6. The vehicles will primarily be manufactured at BEML's Palakkad and Mysore plants, with additional production to be undertaken at other divisions based on operational feasibility, the PSU said in a statement. Designed to deliver high reliability and versatility, the 6×6 HMVs are built to operate effectively in extreme terrains, diverse climatic conditions and at high altitudes, it explained. Key features of the HMVs include an independent suspension system, a high-power air-cooled engine, a central tyre inflation system, an anti-lock braking system, and a backbone tube chassis design — ensuring superior mobility, stability, and operational safety. 'This order showcases BEML's expertise and capacity in delivering advanced indigenous products that enhances India's defence infrastructure," said Shantanu Roy, Chairman and Managing Director of BEML Ltd. The HMVs are expected to play a key role in general operations, delivering essential services and logistical support to some of the most remote and inaccessible areas in the country.
