Controversial BJP MLA T Raja Singh quits party amid Telangana leadership tussle

India Todaya day ago

In a setback to the Telangana BJP, Goshamahal MLA T Raja Singh quit the party on Monday, expressing strong disappointment over media reports that Ramchander Rao is set to be appointed as the state BJP president. In his resignation letter addressed to Telangana BJP chief G Kishan Reddy, Raja Singh said the decision reflects a 'betrayal' of lakhs of karyakartas who stood by the party through thick and thin.advertisement'This decision has come as a shock, not just to me, but to lakhs of karyakartas, leaders, and voters who have supported the BJP. Telangana was ready for BJP to form its first government, but the wrong leadership choice has put that in jeopardy,' Raja Singh wrote.
Calling out what he termed as a leadership imposed by 'individuals running the show from behind the curtain,' he alleged that personal interests had prevailed over the party's interests in Telangana. 'I cannot stay silent or pretend that all is well,' he added. In his letter, Raja Singh clarified that while he is stepping away from the BJP, his commitment to Hindutva ideology and the service of Dharma remains unchanged. 'I will continue to raise my voice and stand with the Hindu community with even greater strength,' he stated.advertisementCalling it a difficult but necessary decision, he said, 'The silence of many should not be mistaken for agreement. I speak not just for myself, but for countless karyakartas and voters who today feel let down.'Raja Singh also made a direct appeal to the central leadership, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP national president JP Nadda, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and party general secretary BL Santhosh, urging them to reconsider the current leadership situation in Telangana. 'Telangana is ready for the BJP, but we must choose the right leadership to honour that opportunity and not let it slip away,' his letter read.Raja Singh signed off the letter with 'Jai Hind. Jai Shri Ram.'He has often courted controversy for his remarks. In April this year, during a Ram Navami procession in Hyderabad, he said the amended Waqf law would put an end to what he called 'land jihad' in the country.Singh also used the platform to reiterate his demand for India to be declared a 'Hindu Rashtra,' claiming it was the 'demand of every Hindu.'- EndsMust Watch

Ahead of Thackeray reunion, BJP's Rane claims Uddhav harassed Raj, blames him for Shiv Sena's downfall

MUMBAI: Former union minister and BJP MP Narayan Rane on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, accusing him of having harassed his cousin Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) president Raj Thackeray in the past. Rane, in a social media post, alleged that Uddhav Thackeray doesn't have the strength or ability to regain lost ground, and he alone is responsible for the undivided Shiv Sena's downfall. His remarks have come at a time when the estranged Thackeray cousins are set to share a stage on July 5 after nearly two decades. "Uddhav Thackeray is attempting to cosy up to Raj Thackeray by invoking their bond of brotherhood. But has he forgotten that he had harassed Raj, caused him immense distress, and pushed him to leave the party (undivided Shiv Sena)? Is he unaware of what he did? Why is he buttering up Raj now?" Rane wrote in the post. A rapprochement buzz between Uddhav and Raj Thackeray has been in the air for months now, and they will be holding a joint rally on July 5 to celebrate the state government's announcement to scrap the Government Resolution (GR) regarding the three-language policy. Rane said, "Raj Thackeray, Ganesh Naik, Eknath Shinde, and I dedicated our lives to the growth of the Shiv Sena. But Uddhav Thackeray threw us out. Honourable Balasaheb Thackeray brought the party to power, but Uddhav Thackeray lost that power and is entirely responsible for Shiv Sena's downfall." He further criticised the former chief minister's efforts towards a political revival, claiming the latter doesn't have the strength or ability to regain what he has lost. It is to be noted that Raj Thackeray had campaigned for Rane ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha election. Reacting to the BJP leader's allegations against Uddhav Thackeray, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Bhaskar Jadhav said, "Why is Narayan Rane so preoccupied with others? Why did he leave his own party within a year? Why did he quit the Congress? He must explain his reasons to the people of Maharashtra. He even issued a veiled warning to Ravindra Chavan — what was the reason for that?"

'Lifting Ban From RSS Was A Mistake': Congress Chief Kharge's Son Priyank Stirs Controversy

Last Updated: Kharge, the son of Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, said the RSS, ideological parent organisation of the BJP, never accepted the Constitution and now they want to change it Karnataka minister Priyank Kharge on Tuesday said that it was a mistake of Congress to lift the ban on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). His remarks came after RSS General Secretary Dattattreya Hosabale recently called for the removal of the words 'socialist" and 'secular" from the Indian constitution. Kharge, the son of Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, said the RSS, ideological parent organisation of the BJP, never accepted the Constitution and now they want to change it. 'We have opposed the ideology of the RSS in the past also and had banned them two-three times. Lifting the ban was our (Congress') mistake. They fell at our feet, saying they won't indulge in anti-national activities. There are documents for this," the minister said, as reported by Deccan Herald. When asked if Congress will ban the RSS if it comes to power at the Centre, Kharge said, 'We will see. It's not the first time they will be been banned, right? Didn't Sardar Patel ban them? Then they went and fell at his feet. They pleaded no, no, we will follow the law of the land. After that, Indira Gandhiji banned it again. They went and said no, no we will cooperate. We will abide by the laws of the land. There cannot be one law of the land for the rest of the country and for one organisation like this." Dubbing the RSS 'anti-national", Kharge further said, instead of tough questions to their political outfit– the BJP– about job loss, the Pahalgam terror attack, India's external affairs, the RSS is sowing 'seeds of communal hatred" in society. 'Very clearly, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar in his last speech has defined anti-nationals as those who create animosity by bringing in caste, and those people who are going to impede the social, political and economic progress of the country are the real anti-national. Those people who sow the seeds of communal hatred in society are anti-national. So who's doing that right now? They burned the constitution and said that we want the Manusmriti as our constitution. Didn't they say that?" he asked. 'Change his name to 'Mungerilal ke haseen sapne'. They have been in power before and tried many times, even banned the RSS twice. What was the result? We suffered heavy defeats in elections, and even now, we keep facing losses. I wonder what these 'haseen sapne' are, that our government — which is not coming to power — will ban the RSS. If you have the courage, you have governments in Karnataka, Himachal, and Telangana. Why can't you do it there? Because the Supreme Court has clearly stated that you cannot ban any cultural organisation like this," he said. Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) National Spokesperson Vinod Bansal called Kharge's remark 'absurd." 'This is not the first time he has made such a controversial statement. He has previously made several absurd remarks against Sanatan Dharma," he added. (With inputs from ANI, IANS) First Published: July 01, 2025, 14:47 IST
