Khutsong family traumatised after armed robbery and teen's disappearance
A family from Khutsong Extension 6 experienced a terrifying ordeal in the early hours of Monday, July 7, when armed robbers stormed into their home, assaulted them, and kidnapped their 14-year-old son. According to a reliable source, the family was asleep in their electricity-starved home—an area that has been without power for over a week—when they were abruptly awakened by a loud noise at around 01:00. Moments later, three men wearing balaclavas and speaking Sesotho forced their way inside. Armed with a 9mm pistol and a rifle, the intruders demanded money, quickly seizing all the cash in the house. The parents were then forced to lie face-down on their bed at gunpoint while the robbers searched the home. The assailants stole several valuables, including cellphones, one of which belonged to a neighbour who had left it there for charging. They also took the keys to the family's black VW Polo, which had Lesotho number plates. As the ordeal unfolded, the family reported hearing gunshots. When the parents got up to investigate, they found their vehicle missing—and their 14-year-old son had vanished. By the time of publication, the teenager had still not been located, and the police investigation is ongoing. At Caxton, we employ humans to generate daily fresh news, not AI intervention. No leads in two missing cases in Mamelodi
No leads in two missing cases in Mamelodi The search for two missing people from Mamelodi continues, as police have had no leads in either case. Phillemon Duke Mahlangu (63) from Mamelodi East went missing in January, and Thabo Paulos Phasha (37) from Skierlik informal settlement went missing in June. The two cases are unrelated. According to police spokesperson Constable Penelope Khulong, Mahlangu was last seen on January 14, wearing a brown hat and brown jacket. Khulong said Mahlangu's son reported him missing, saying he was with his father in the Pretoria CBD on the day he went missing, as they had not seen each other in a long time. 'After picking him up, they travelled to Mamelodi East and spent the day together. When they parted ways, the victim requested the complainant to drop him off at Tshwane College. That was the last time he saw him,' said Khulong. She added that she is pleading with the public to help find him, as his son has made attempts to look for him, but no trace has yet been found. Thabo Paulos Phasha (37) from Skierlik informal settlement was last seen in Mamelodi East on June 3. His mother reported him missing after receiving a call from her neighbour on June 7, indicating that Phasha had not been seen in three days.
