Man and woman arrested on suspicion of GBH on a baby who had to be taken to hospital
The one-year-old was seen by residents being carried out of a property in Newport, Isle of Wight and into an ambulance at around 11.30am on Saturday.
A man, 31, and a woman, 27, were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
Both have been released on conditional police bail pending further enquiries until November 1.
Police officers remained outside the property for the rest of the day.
Residents told the Isle of Wight County Press that the child was 'limp' as they were carried out of a building by paramedics.
The child was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital, where they recieved blood transfusions, Island Echo reported.
One said he saw ambulances turn up at the property and was 'genuinely shocked'.
It is believed the man and woman are known to each other.
The child's condition has yet to be confirmed.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Police said: 'We were called at 11.34am on Friday, August 1 to a report of a child being taken to hospital with serious injuries.
'Police attended an address in Newport, to carry out enquiries in relation to this investigation.
'A 31-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, both from Newport, have been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. They have been released on conditional police bail pending further enquiries until November 1.
Inspector Oly Greenhowe said: 'This is understandably a troubling incident for the community, and we want to reassure residents that a dedicated team of officers is actively working to establish the full circumstances surrounding what happened.
'While we carry out those enquiries, we are urging people to stop speculating online about this case.
'Speculation and the spread of rumours are not only unhelpful, but they can actively hinder the progress of our investigation.
'If people have relevant information on this incident, then they should contact the police directly.'

August 5 - Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Denzel Perryman was released from police custody on Monday, and the Los Angeles District Attorney decided not to move forward with a felony weapons charge, public records showed. Perryman had been held since Friday after he was pulled over by police for vehicle code violations. He was headed to a gun range at the time, TMZ reported. Of the five firearms in his vehicle, two were assault-style rifles that are illegal in California. Although Perryman was scheduled to appear at Inglewood Court on Tuesday, he is free to go as the DA declined to file charges in the case. YouTube star arrested for playing game of hide and seek in Texas mall after it closed
Twitch star Duke Dennis was arrested at a Texas mall on Saturday while playing hide-and-seek with a group of friends after hours, according to police. Police encountered Dennis, whose full name is Denzel Shaquille Dennis, after being called around 10pm about a disturbance at the Shops at Rivercenter in San Antonio. Officials said Dennis and his friends were "causing disruption throughout the area," and had refused to leave despite being warned by mall security guards. The Twitch star, part of the AMP collective alongside fellow streaming celebrity Kai Cenat, verbally and physically refused similar warnings from police. When an officer told Dennis to put his hands behind his back, the 31-year-old 'jumped back and started running away,' according to a police report obtained by the San Antonio Express-News . Fears Russia will sink its own ships in a 'false flag' and blame the West after the Kremlin accused Britain of preparing 'mass raids'
Russia is feared to be preparing false flag attacks on its shadow fleet of sea vessels in order to deter the West from further sanctioning them. According to the Telegraph, a report from the SVR, Moscow 's foreign intelligence service, claimed that the UK was plotting to attack Russia's fleet of ships used to subvert sanctions. The SVR said that the attacks would be designed to look like accidents, causing significant environmental damage and allowing the UK and the rest of NATO to justify further actions against them. The report claimed: 'British intelligence services are planning to use NATO allies to launch a mass raid on the "shadow fleet"; for this purpose, an ecological catastrophe in international waters is being prepared.' But experts said the report's publication raised concerns that Russia is preparing its own false flag operation, a scheme carried out by the Kremlin but designed to look like it has British origins. Dr Sidharth Kaushal, a research fellow at RUSI, told the newspaper: 'One interpretation might be that the Russians are insuring themselves against something breaking down or sinking, in a way that creates a pretext for restricting [their movement across the ocean].' So far, at least six tankers have suffered mysterious explosions since the start of the year. The suspicion has largely fallen on Ukraine, as all of the tankers were docked in Russian ports. Some of them were carrying Russian oil. It comes after the National Crime Agency (NCA) warned UK financial firms that Russian oil trading companies are utilising a complex network of companies with deliberately obscure ownership structures in order to evade sanctions. Britain has banned the maritime transportation of Russian oil as its energy exports are funding the war in Ukraine. In 2024, 30 per cent of Russia's federal budget came from oil and gas sales. But Russian oil trading companies are managing to circumvent sanctions to get Western cash which is continuing to fund the Russian state, investigators believe. One of the companies sanctioned last year used over 100 Shadow Fleet oil tankers, vessels which are usually over 15 years old which secretly carry Russian oil. To avoid detection, flags are regularly changed and the ship's automatic identification system is turned off to avoid its movements being tracked, while the oil is often transferred from one ship to another to obscure its origin before the shipment reaches its destination. Over 400 Shadow Fleet vessels have so far been sanctioned by the UK, EU, US and Canada. An NCA spokesman said: 'Today, the National Crime Agency has issued an alert to financial institutions and other members of the UK regulated sector in relation to the sale of Russian oil and gas through the use of Shadow Fleet vessels and front companies. 'Sanctions imposed on Russia as a result of its invasion of Ukraine have had a significant impact on its ability to sell oil and gas it produces. 'However, in an effort to circumvent these controls, Russian oil trading companies are utilising a complex network of companies with deliberately obscure ownership structures to evade sanctions whilst accessing Western finance and professional services in order to continue to fund the Russian state.'
