'Huge Demand:' BMW Is Increasing M2 CS Production Just to Keep Up
BMW's latest M cars are hot commodities.
Demand for the M5
is surpassing the automaker's expectations, and now we have word that buyers are placing orders for the new
M2 CS
in greater numbers than initially predicted. This is forcing
BMW
to increase the number of build slots in certain markets, including in the United States.
Sylvia Neubauer, BMW M's Vice President of Customer, Brand, and Sales, told
BMW Blog
there's "huge demand" for the new M2 variant. We don't know how many CSs BMW plans to produce or how many each market will receive, but Neubauer said that it has had to increase allotment by "quite some units." Demand is also up in Germany and China.

The 2026 M2 CS is one of BMW's hottest M cars ever. Under the hood is the brand's twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter straight-six engine producing 523 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. That's 50 more hp and an extra 36 lb-ft of torque over the standard
M2
with the eight-speed automatic, which is the only gearbox available in the CS. However, it is rear-wheel drive, unlike BMW's other CS models.
The M2 CS is also lighter than the regular M2, primarily due to its carbon-fiber body, with BMW claiming it weighs 97 pounds less. However, it still weighs in at nearly 3,800 pounds. It can reach 60 miles per hour in 3.7 seconds and hit a top speed of up to 188 mph, but all that performance commands a steep price.
The 2026 M2 CS starts at $99,775 before any options, and people are lining up to pay six figures for BMW's chunky coupe. If you want one, be prepared to stave off some competition.

2026 Mazda CX-5 Teased with Sleeker Styling, Still Looks Familiar
Mazda is getting ready to reveal the third-generation CX-5 SUV and has just published this trio of teaser images. The teasers show what looks like a smoother, sleeker progression of the current CX-5's styling and taillights influenced by the larger CX-90. The 2026 CX-5 will be unveiled in full on July 10 at 4:00 a.m. ET. The Mazda CX-5 is the independent Japanese automaker's most important product, remaining its bestseller by a wide margin even after Mazda introduced the similarly sized CX-50 for the 2023 model year. Now the CX-5 is preparing to enter its third generation, and Mazda has released three teaser images of its new compact SUV ahead of its full reveal on July 10. Mazda The 2026 CX-5 appears to be more of an evolution than a revolution in terms of styling, at least based on what we can see in these shadowy photos. The silhouette doesn't appear to be drastically different than the current model, with slim headlights and a wide-mouthed grille. As on the 2025 CX-5, the headlights display two hockey-stick-shaped LED elements, but here they are stacked one atop the other instead of side by side. At the rear, a hook-like LED curves down and across the taillight, giving the taillights a long, thin look that feels in line with the larger CX-90. The shadows could be hiding some radical design change, but overall, it seems like Mazda's designers are sticking with what has been working for them. Along with updated sheetmetal, Mazda is promising a roomier interior and "greater utility," along with "human-centric technology and class-leading safety." Mazda The CX-5 will most likely make its debut with a traditional gas powertrain, likely using some version of the 2.5-liter four-cylinder currently found in the SUV in both naturally aspirated and turbocharged forms. Mazda, however, confirmed earlier this year that a hybrid powertrain will join the fleet in 2027, and instead of borrowing a hybrid system from Toyota as the current CX-50 Hybrid does, the CX-5 Hybrid will use an in-house design. Nothing else is confirmed, but we expect it to pair that 2.5-liter inline-four with at least one electric motor. Fourth of July gas hasn't been this cheap since 2021
Drivers hitting the road this Fourth of July weekend won't need to break the bank to fill up at the gas pump. Gas prices are expected to average between $3.10 and $3.15 per gallon nationally this Fourth of July, according to GasBuddy, which tracks fuel prices. That's down sharply from $3.49 per gallon last year and would represent the cheapest gas for the summer holiday since at least 2021. If the national average drops below $3.12 per gallon, it would be the lowest Fourth of July price for gas since 2020 during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, according to GasBuddy. Muted gas prices represent one of the biggest bright spots in the US economy, which has suffered from softer consumer spending and vast uncertainty caused by the global trade war. Last month's Israel-Iran conflict interrupted the trend of cheaper gas prices – but only briefly. Oil prices skyrocketed after Israel and then the United States launched attacks on Iran, fanning fears of a regional war that could derail the region's vital energy supplies. Gasoline prices started climbing sharply, threatening to make Fourth of July a much more expensive time to travel by car. But energy prices have since tumbled as Israel and Iran reached a ceasefire, reducing the risk of a disastrous disruption in the flow of oil out of the Strait of Hormuz. US crude oil settled at $65.11 a barrel on Monday – down sharply from an intraday peak of $79 on June 22. 'The pendulum swung very rapidly,' said Patrick De Haan, GasBuddy's head of petroleum analysis. That's very good news for the many Americans set to travel this holiday weekend. According to AAA, a record-setting 61.6 million people are expected to travel by car this Fourth of July weekend. That's up by 2.2%, or 1.3 million people, compared with last year. Based on the current forecast, Americans are expected to spend about $500 million less on fuel than last Fourth of July, according to GasBuddy. Gas looks even cheaper from an inflation-adjusted basis. Americans are making significantly more money, on average, than they did in 2021 or 2020. That means filling up at the pump is swallowing up a smaller and smaller chunk of paychecks. Consider that inflation-adjusted gasoline prices averaged $3.68 per gallon in June 2021 and $5.43 in June 2022, according to the US Energy Information Administration. That's well above today's prices of around $3.15 to $3.20 a gallon. Drivers in some US states are enjoying significantly cheaper gas prices compared with last year, including Ohio (56 cents cheaper), Florida (43 cents), Kentucky (42 cents) and Michigan (42 cents), according to AAA. As always, there's a risk that gas prices could start climbing again if something else goes wrong in the Middle East, US refineries suffer outages or hurricanes season interrupts energy supplies. But short of that, analysts say the outlook remains favorable to drivers this summer when it comes to gas prices. Not only have Israel-Iran fears eased, but OPEC continues to aggressively add more supply, and US oil production remains near record highs. That's why GasBuddy says it's possible gas prices will slip below $3 per gallon nationally by Labor Day weekend. 'There's limited ability for gas prices to rise above last summer's levels. All in all, it's not a bad time to hit the road,' De Haan said.
