5-star CB Brandon Arrington sets commitment date with Oregon football as a finalist
On Monday morning, 5-star cornerback Brandon Arrington took to his social media and teased some big news to come. On Monday night, he delivered, announcing that he was cutting his recruitment down to two schools — the Oregon Ducks and Texas A&M Aggies — and moving his commitment date up to this Thursday, June 19.
Arrington was originally set to announce his commitment on July 5, but after taking an official visit to Oregon earlier this month, he is accelerating that timeline. However, Arrington is also scheduled to take an official visit to Texas A&M this coming weekend. It seems as if he will either take that visit as the newest member of the Aggies' 2026 class or cancel that visit after committing to Oregon.
Arrington stands at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds, and is rated by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 10 player in the 2026 class and the No. 1 ATH. From Spring Valley, California, Oregon has been recruiting him heavily for a long time now and is projected as one of the favorites to land him.
There are currently no Crystal Ball projections for Arrington on 247Sports, but the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine has the Texas A&M Aggies as the heavy favorite to land the 5-star player, with Steve Wiltfong logging a prediction all the way back in October of 2024.
In just a few days, we will find out at long last where the blue-chip player is headed.

Michigan football boosts 2026 class with 4-star WR Travis Johnson from Virginia
Michigan football recruiting is red hot, and the Wolverines have shown little sign of slowing down -- only in the way that the class is filling up. The maize and blue already have two wide receivers committed in Dallas (Tx.) Episcopal three-star Jaylen Pile and Mansfield (Tx.) four-star Zion Robinson. But the Wolverines are looking to add at least one more, if not two. While top target Miami (Fla.) Northwestern five-star Calvin Russell will make his decision on Saturday evening, another that Michigan football has been after for some time decides on Independence Day in Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar Smith four-star wideout Travis Johnson. At 6-foot-3, 180 pounds, Johnson has offers from the likes of Penn State, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Miami, and others. But on Friday, he committed to the Wolverines. Scouting report and highlights Here's the scouting report from 247Sports' Andrew Ivins: Well-rounded wide receiver with the size, speed and focus to emerge as a trusted option at the Power Four level. Height and bounce suggest that he's destined to play on the outside, but is sudden and quick enough to win from an interior alignment with his slick route running. Attacks cushion with good surge off the line and can reach a top gear before changing course with full-tilt cuts. How to watch 2025 Prefontaine Classic on TV, streaming
This weekend is the 50th Prefontaine Classic at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. It is one of the premier track and field meets on the calendar each season, attracting top talent from all over the world. Prefontaine was, and arguably still is, the most famous American distance runner ever. Advertisement His brash attitude, aggressive racing style and willingness to push his body to the absolute edge made him a favorite among fans and runners themselves. 'Stop Pre' shirts became a common sight around Hayward Field in the 1970s. And it's why you still see 'Stop Pre' shirts to this day. At the University of Oregon, Prefontaine won seven NCAA titles in cross-country and track and field and used to hold every American record from the 2,000 to the 10,000 meters. Prefontaine died in a car crash at 24. At his memorial service, Prefontaine was remembered by longtime writer and fellow Oregon Ducks track athlete Kenny Moore, via (Prefontaine) conceived of his sport as a service, in the way an artist serves. Without that, he would never have given us all the records. They were out beyond winning or losing, which a runner does for himself. They came from those furious minutes near the end of a race when his relentlessness and our excitement blended into a joyous thunder. Fifty years ago, May 30, 1975, tragedy struck the track and field world when Prefontaine was killed in a car crash in the hills of Eugene, Oregon, not far from where Prefontaine became a college star and only days before he was set to compete in a meet. In the days after his death, the scheduled track meet — originally called the Hayward Restoration Meet, to raise money for the deteriorating stadium at the time — was re-branded in his honor and called the 'Prefontaine Classic.' Since then, Hayward Field has morphed into one of the more iconic track and field stadiums in the world, while the meet has become one of the more competitive in the sport.
