Sexual acts on girl, 14: Factory worker charged

Kota Kinabalu: A tyre factory worker was charged in the Sessions Court here Monday with two counts of committing physical sexual offences against an underage girl in Tuaran. The 19-year-old man pleaded not guilty before Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan to committing the offences, each framed under Section 14 (a) of the Sexual Offences against Children Act 2017. On the first count, the accused allegedly kissed and fondled the breasts of the 14-year-old girl (now 16) in the mid of June 2023, between noon and 1pm, in an entertainment outlet in Tuaran town. On the second charge, the accused was accused of kissing the same girl in February 2024, between 7pm and 8pm, in an entertainment outlet, also in Tuaran town. Each charge carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping, on conviction. The prosecution, in applying for a new mention date, objected to bail on the grounds that the charge was non-bailable, involved a serious offence, and there was a risk the accused might abscond or tamper with prosecution witnesses, particularly the alleged victim. The prosecution further submitted that if bail were granted, it proposed that bail be set at RM10,000 for each charge, with the following conditions: the accused would report to the police every two weeks, surrender his passport to the court, and refrain from contacting any of the prosecution's witnesses. The accused, who was not represented, requested to be released on bail, saying among others, that he is currently working as a tyre factory worker. Amir fixed July 30 for pre-trial case management and released the accused on a bail of RM4,000 in two sureties each. The court also imposed a condition to the bail requiring the accused to report to the Tuaran Police Station on the first day of every month until the disposal of the case. His passport was to be surrendered to the court, and he was prohibited from contacting or interfering with the prosecution's witnesses, particularly the alleged victim. Police report against whistleblower

Kota Kinabalu: A police report has been lodged by Special Officer to the Chief Minister Mazlan@Joehari Manan against Albert Tei for alleged defamatory and seditious statements he made during a media conference outside the High Court, here, on Monday. The report was lodged at the Kota Kinabalu District Police Headquarters, Tuesday. 'Albert made statements containing malicious, false and insulting elements against the Sabah Chief Minister, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Attorney General's Chambers during the media conference,' Mazlan said in the report. 'He openly made accusations and warnings to the public that should anything happen to him, including kidnapping, murder or disappearance, the Chief Minister and several other individuals should be held accountable. 'These are extremely serious criminal accusations and seditious in nature against the Chief Minister,' he said. Mazlan said given Albert's ongoing court case involving two Sabah assemblymen, he (Albert) should not have made statements through the media that could create negative perceptions and contain defamatory and false elements that could harm various parties, including the Chief Minister, MACC and Attorney General's Chambers. 'Albert's actions could constitute contempt of court (subjudice) as the matter is currently before the courts,' he said. EU creating liberal dictatorship in ex-Soviet country Moscow
The Russian Foreign Ministry has condemned the prosecution in Moldova of regional head Yevgenia Gutsul as politically motivated repression Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has denounced the Moldovan authorities' efforts to imprison the leader of the autonomous region of Gagauzia, Yevgenia Gutsul, calling it an example of "European anti-values in action." Gutsul, who was elected as Gagauzia's governor in July 2023, was detained on March 25 while attempting to leave Moldova. Authorities have accused her of illegally financing the banned Euroskeptic SOR party. She has denied the charges and called the case politically motivated. The Moldovan Prosecutor's Office requested a nine-year prison term for on Tuesday. In addition, authorities have called for a five-year ban on Gutsul holding public office. "The European anti-values are in action. From a hardworking country, Brussels is forging a liberal dictatorship," Zakharova wrote on her Telegram channel. Gutsul's arrest has triggered protests outside the courthouse in Chisinau, with supporters calling the proceedings a politically driven attempt to neutralize opposition in the region. In October 2024, the EU also sanctioned Gutsul for "promoting separatism," maintaining "close ties with Russia," and allegedly threatening Moldova's sovereignty. President Maia Sandu's government, in power since 2020, has pursued rapid integration with the European Union and NATO. Opposition figures, including former President Igor Dodon and members of the Victorie party, have accused the government of repressing dissent and abandoning Moldova's traditional ties with Russia. Gutsul has appealed to foreign leaders including Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan to intervene. In a March letter, she urged Putin to exert pressure on Moldovan authorities for her release. Russian officials and opposition groups in Moldova have warned that the central government is increasingly using law enforcement to suppress political rivals and religious institutions. In recent months, clashes between police and Orthodox Christian demonstrators at protests have drawn additional criticism from pro-traditionalist factions. Gagauzia, a largely Russian-speaking autonomous region in southern Moldova, has historically favored closer ties with Russia and has opposed Moldova's integration with the European Union.
