Chiefs rookie preview: Omarr Norman-Lott 2025 stat projections
Norman-Lott's two biggest competitors for snaps are Mike Pennel and free agent signee Jerry Tillery. Jones will dominate the rotation once again, and there's no realistic chance of Norman-Lott taking snaps away from the future Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee.
Despite being healthy for most of 2024, Pennel played just 320 regular season snaps across his 17 appearances. Tillery, who spent last year in Minnesota, played 467 snaps across 17 games. His addition doesn't even come close to replacing the 888 snaps vacated by Tershawn Wharton and Derrick Nnadi, who departed Kansas City as free agents.
The Chiefs lack developmental options behind Norman-Lott. Barring excellent offseasons, Fabien Lovett Sr. and Marlon Tuipulotu won't require snaps in 2025. That limits Kansas City's interior defensive line rotation to Jones, Norman-Lott, Pennel and Tillery, creating an excellent environment for the rookie to win snaps.
One of Norman-Lott's greatest weaknesses as a prospect was his lack of involvement on run downs. He faced run plays just 250 times across his final three collegiate seasons. For reference, Jones, who isn't an enthusiastic run defender, faced runs 224 times in 2024 alone. This trend might limit Norman-Lott to playing on passing downs, significantly reducing his snap total but refining his efficiency.
Playing primarily on passing downs allows Norman-Lott to maintain his explosiveness and energy throughout games, resulting in beneficial matchups in key late game situations. This snap allocation often results in a boom in sack and pressure production for athletic rushers.
Norman-Lott may put together a watered-down version of Braden Fiske's rookie campaign. If the new Chiefs rookie plays 500 snaps, with roughly 350 of those serving as pass rush opportunities, he could amass six or seven sacks and more than 30 pressures. Those aren't Defensive Rookie of the Year numbers, but they serve as a solid foundation for Norman-Lott's development.

NFL Veteran Drops Reality Check on Travis Hunter
NFL Veteran Drops Reality Check on Travis Hunter originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Entering his 13th NFL season with the Kansas City Chiefs, three-time Super Bowl winner Travis Kelce has seen it all. Advertisement His experience was vital in mentoring rookies on the Chiefs offense in 2024, such as wide receiver Xavier Worthy and tight end Jared Wiley. "More than anything it's the leadership he brings to the building every day," Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes said of Kelce this offseason. "How he leads by example, how he leads vocally, it's a big impact to our football team." Part of helping young players adapt to the NFL is setting realistic expectations. When Kelce was asked about Jacksonville Jaguars rookie Travis Hunter, he had no issue sharing how he expects the league to make life "miserable" for the former Colorado Buffaloes two-way star. Rebilas-Imagn Images; Doug Engle/Florida Times-Union 'Travis Hunter, man, the guy's really good,' Kelce told Will Compton and Taylor Lewan on their "Bussin' with the Boys" podcast. Advertisement They were reflecting on Colorado's 34-23 win over Kelce's alma mater, University of Cincinnati in 2024, propelled by Hunter's nine receptions for 153 yards and two touchdowns. The Chiefs tight end declared that Hunter will "100 percent" be good in the NFL, but he raised concerns about the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft potentially playing cornerback and wide receiver like he did in college. 'Both sides? See, that's the thing," Kelce said. "I don't know how they're gonna divvy it out. Because teams are gonna be going after him. They are gonna try to make his day miserable." "If he plays corner, they're gonna run deep balls at him all day, just to try to get him tired," Kelce explained. "Why wouldn't you attack him that way?' Advertisement Hunter is expected to get reps on offense and defense in 2025, even though the Jaguars limited him to one side of the ball per practice this offseason as he eases his way into the NFL. Hunter, 22, will make his NFL debut at home against the Carolina Panthers in Week 1 on Sep. 7. The Chiefs will be able to put Kelce's theory to the test in Week 5, when they meet the Jaguars on "Monday Night Football." Travis Kelce dismisses claims he and Taylor Swift are 'seeking attention'
Travis Kelce is shaking off haters and doubling down on date nights with girlfriend Taylor Swift after the couple has been seen in public over the past week and received some online backlash for seeking attention. The Kansas City tight end talked to the podcast hosts of "Bussin' With The Boys" for 90 minutes about Chiefs' season expectations, NFL retirement, acting with Adam Sandler in the new "Happy Gilmore" sequel and his relationship with Swift. "Having fun with it man, being a couple," Kelce said about his relationship. "It gets thrown out there, like we're trying to seek attention every now and then, but it's like we're just enjoying life and having fun going to hockey games, kinda introducing her to some more of the sports world." What is Tight End University? What to know about annual Nashville summit after surprise Taylor Swift performance. While hosts Will Compton and Taylor Lewan talked about encounters they've had with some Swifties, Kelce stayed quiet for the remainder of the segment. The "Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?" host said the most unexpected thing to get used to while dating one of the biggest stars on the planet is the paparazzi. "That's probably the craziest part," he said, "like I'm just playing golf and all of a sudden in the trees there's a [bleeping] guy with a camera." Earlier in the broadcast Compton, who attended Tight End University in Nashville where Swift gave a surprise performance of "Shake It Off," said that all attendees had to be vetted and photos needed to go through approval before getting posted. "You can't post anything until it gets cleared," he said. Follow Bryan West, the USA TODAY Network's Taylor Swift reporter, on Instagram, TikTok and X as @BryanWestTV.
