Patriots legend Stephon Gilmore reveals when Bills fans turned on him

USA Todaya day ago
For Buffalo Bills fans, it was already bad enough when Stephon Gilmore decided to leave Buffalo and join the AFC East rival New England Patriots. However, Gilmore believes what he said after leaving ticked off the fan base, which was already reeling from his exit.
The five-time Pro Bowl cornerback touted that his family would finally see him on television playing in New England, as opposed to staying in Buffalo. There were more primetime games for the Patriots, while the struggling Bills were typically blacked out of those marquee games at the time.
When appearing on The Money Down Podcast, Gilmore said he believed fans in Buffalo hated him after that post, even though he never meant it as disrespect.
"Especially what I said when I left. I mean, I didn't really mean it like that. I feel like the fans in Buffalo hated me after that," said Gilmore. "...I think I said, like, 'My family finally get to see me on TV,' or something like that. Because we weren't winning then. I was like, man, we ain't never on TV back home. We get one Thursday night game back in Buffalo. That's it."
Gilmore made good on his run in New England by appearing in two Super Bowls, winning one championship and becoming the lone player in franchise history to win NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
He was already a great player when he arrived, but his game elevated even further when playing under Patriots coach Bill Belichick. It just takes one look at Gilmore's accomplishments, and it's clear to see why going to New England was the right move.
Being over eight years removed from that decision, surely, Buffalo fans can see it as well.

Cowboys Pro Bowler KaVontae Turpin lands in legal trouble just weeks before training camp

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver KaVontae Turpin was arrested in Texas on marijuana and weapons charges on Saturday. The speedy receiver and return specialist for Dallas is facing a pair of misdemeanor charges after being arrested and booked into Collin County Jail, per The Dallas Morning News. Turpin faces possession of marijuana and unlawful carrying of a weapon, both being misdemeanors in Texas. Jail records also confirm that Turpin was released from jail on Sunday. There are no further specifics on Turpin's incident or whether he will face any discipline from the Cowboys or the NFL. This isn't the first time Turpin has dealt with off-the-field legal issues, as he was kicked off his TCU Horned Frogs squad due to assault charges, which he pleaded guilty to in college. Turpin ended up going undrafted out of college, where he played in several leagues before ultimately landing with the Cowboys in 2022. He ended up finding a solid home there, earning two Pro Bowl nods during his three seasons, most of which were due to his ability to make magic happen on special teams. He was a first-team All-Pro last season after totaling a league-high 904 return yards on kickoffs with one touchdown. He also had a punt return and 187 yards on those kicks last season. Turpin can also provide some breakout speed when Dak Prescott gets him the ball, hauling in 31 receptions for 420 yards with two touchdowns. The Cowboys will open training camp on July 21, beginning their preparation for their Week 1 matchup — a "Thursday Night Football" bout to kick off the NFL season against the Super Bowl-champion Philadelphia Eagles. Mega Trade Idea Lands Patriots Superstar Edge Rusher T.J. Watt

Mega Trade Idea Lands Patriots Superstar Edge Rusher T.J. Watt originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New England Patriots enter the 2025 NFL season with renewed optimism. The franchise underwent some major changes in the offseason, firing first-year head coach Jerod Mayo and replacing him with former Patriots' linebacker and Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel. There's also hope that their 2024 first-round pick, quarterback Drake Maye, can continue to ascend. Things are pointing in the upward trajectory in Foxborough. Advertisement The front office invested heavily on the defensive side of the ball this offseason, bringing in Milton Williams, Robert Spillane, Carlton Davis III, and Harold Landry III, as well as a host of other faces. Those faces, as well as the infrastructure in place, could make the Patriots a top defense in the NFL. One trade idea has the Patriots getting even better, though. According to Bleacher Report's Brent Sobelski, the Patriots are one of four teams who should consider making a move for disgruntled Pittsburgh Steelers' edge rusher T.J. Watt, who reportedly wants to be the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL. In the proposed deal, the Patriots would send a 2026 second-round pick, a 2027 third-round pick, and safety Jabrill Peppers for Watt. 'As quarterback Drake Maye continues to grow into his role, Watt can be the unquestioned leader of these Patriots.' Advertisement Watt still has one year remaining on his current deal, but with training camp around the corner, the four-time First-Team All-Pro and 2021 Defensive Player of the Year wants a raise that keeps him in line with the top of the market earners at the edge rusher position. 'Head coach Mike Vrabel has always been a defensive guy first. Watt playing alongside Christian Barmore and free-agent acquisitions Milton Williams and Harold Landry III can get New England back to what once made the team successful in the early 2000s by playing a hardnosed brand of football.' Sobelski added. Watt had something of a down year in 2024, but still earned Second-Team All-Pro honors. He played in all 17 regular-season games for the Steelers, generating 11.5 sacks, his lowest tally in a full season since his rookie year, while adding 19 tackles for loss and 27 quarterback hits. Watt is heading into his age-31 season, and a decline may be on the horizon, but he'd still be a leader in the locker room and improve a defense on the rise.
