UP CM Yogi Adityanath assures fee waiver to Class 7 girl, RSS-run school refuses: ‘No such provision'

After a Class 7 student appealed to Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath for a fee waiver, he assured her support — paving the way for her dream of becoming an IAS officer. UP CM Adityanath had assured the girl that she would not face obstacles in her education.(PTI) 'Either your fees will be waived, or we will arrange the amount,' Adityanath told the student, news agency PTI reported. However, despite the chief minister's assurance that the girl would face no obstacles in her education, the school management refused to pardon her fees, according to an NDTV report. The school is run by RSS's education wing Vidya Bharati, and charges a monthly fee of ₹1,650 for Class 7, reported NDTV. Pankhuri has outstanding dues of about ₹18,000. The student, Pankhuri Tripathi, said the school told her that there was no such provision. "I had gone to the chief minister with a fee pardon request. He gave me a chocolate and assured me that it would be done. But when I went to school with my father, they misbehaved with us," Pankhuri said. She added that the school management had told them that if more people asked for such waivers, the institution would not be able to function. 'They said they have to pay teachers,' Pankuri said, as per NDTV. Pankhuri's father, Rajiv Kumar Tripathi, had suffered a leg injury, following which he lost his job. 'When I was at home during the pandemic, I slipped off the terrace and suffered a leg injury. I lost my job,' Rajiv said. He said both his children study in English-medium schools, with his son currently in Class 12. Pankhuri was not able to attend school after February given the family's difficulty in paying the fees. 'It is my son's last year in school, so I did not want to disrupt his education. I thought of taking my daughter out of school for a year,' NDTV quoted Rajiv as saying. However, Rajiv then had the idea of attending the CM's Janata Durbar on July 1, during which Adityanath directed officials to ensure that Pankhuri's education is not affected. However, when Rajiv took his daughter to the school, the management 'misbehaved' with them, saying there was no such provision for a pardon. 'Truth behind BJP's slogan': Akhilesh Yadav's jibe at UP CM Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav took a jibe at the BJP and CM Adityanath, saying this was the 'truth behind BJP's slogan'. 'Those who are busy hoarding, how will they waive or pay someone's fees?,' Yadav said in a post on X. The SP chief also promised that Pankhuri's education would not stop. 'This is the truth of the BJP's fake slogans of 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao'. We urge the BJP not to lie to children,' he said. However, Pankhuri's family has rested their hopes on the UP CM, with Rajiv Tripathi saying, '…We are associated with the Math and Maharaj ji (Yogi Adityanath) and we believe he will ensure my daughter's education.'

Fake govt order issued before Assembly polls leads to infra works worth crores, probe begins

Maharashtra's Rural Development Department (RDD) is probing a fake Government Resolution (GR) issued just days prior to the 2024 state Assembly polls leading to infrastructure works worth crores. The department has asked all Zilla Parishads in the state and all Superintending Engineers of Public Works Department (PWD) to not act on the said GR as it has already led to the tendering and sanctioning of works worth at least Rs 6.94 crore in Ahilyanagar district of western Maharashtra. The RDD has a budget head called 2515 1238 which deals with providing basic amenities to villages as suggested by elected representatives. On October 3, 2024, just prior to the Assembly polls, a GR was issued sanctioning developmental works worth Rs 6.94 crore for Ahilyanagar district under the above-mentioned budget head. Based on the said GR, tenders were issued at the district level. The 25/15 scheme implemented in rural Maharashtra by the RDD is an important scheme for carrying out various development works according to local needs. Under this scheme, infrastructure works such as village roads, drains, Pandan roads (roads leading to farms), roads connecting cemeteries, public toilets, Gram Panchayat office repairs, gymnasiums, market stalls are mainly undertaken. These works are carried out at a cost of Rs 5 lakh to Rs 25/30 lakh each on the recommendation of the local MLA. At the district level, the works are implemented through the Zilla Parishad or the Public Works Department. Under the scheme, works worth Rs 1,500 to 2,000 crores are carried out in the state in a year. 'When the contractors sought payment of works done, the file of the same was noticed by officials in Mantralaya who cross-checked with the issued GRs. It was found that no such GR was ever issued on October 3. It was a work of forgery and cheating. The payment was stopped and departmental inquiry was ordered,' said a senior official from the RDD. On March 28, 2025, the RDD issued circular to all ZPs and the PWD's all Superintending Engineers about the existence of fake GR and to be remain careful while sanctioning works at local level. The circular stated, 'The correspondence from the state government's official e-mail id of should only be considered official regarding the budget head 2515 1238.' The circular also advised to immediately contact the RDD in case of any doubt regarding any GR. It also advised to initiate criminal proceedings. The Assembly elections were held last year. The Central Election Commission implemented the model code of conduct (MCC) for the elections from October 15. Before MCC, developmental works worth thousands of crores of rupees were approved by the state government through all government departments and government decisions for the works were published in a hurry. 'It seems someone took advantage of this. As of now, we have come to know about one district alone. We do not know how many such GRs were issued and whether they were used in other districts,' the officer added. In Ahilyanagar district, the fake government decision has led to as many as 45 development works in four talukas namely Ahilyanagar, Parner, Shrigonda and Nevasa.

Imran Khan's party lashes out at Bilawal over extradition remark, calls him ‘an immature political child'

Describing former foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari as an 'immature political child', Pakistan Tehreeke Insaf party has slammed him for suggesting that Islamabad could extradite 'individuals of concern' to India as a confidence building measure. read more Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has criticised former foreign minister and Pakistan People's Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, calling him an 'immature political child' for suggesting Islamabad could consider extraditing individuals to India as a confidence-building measure. In an interview with Al Jazeera aired on Friday, Bilawal said, 'As part of a comprehensive dialogue with Pakistan, where terrorism is one of the issues that we discuss, I am sure Pakistan would not be opposed to any of these things.' His remarks came in response to a question on the possible extradition of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) chief Hafiz Saeed and Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) chief Masood Azhar to India. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD PTI reacted sharply to the comments, condemning the suggestion and accusing Bilawal of undermining national security and misrepresenting Pakistan's stance on sensitive matters. Both LeT and JeM have been banned by Pakistan, according to the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA). While Saeed, the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack mastermind, is currently serving a 33-year sentence for terror financing, Azhar, a UN-designated global terrorist, has been proscribed by NACTA. Reacting to Bilawal's remarks, Sheikh Waqas Akram, spokesperson of the jailed former prime minister Imran Khan-led PTI, in a statement on Saturday, said the PPP leader is an 'immature political child', the Dawn newspaper reported on Sunday. Bilawal's proposal was ill-advised and detrimental to Pakistan's national security narrative, and such statements humiliate the country on international platforms, he said. 'We fail to understand why Bilawal is so keen on appeasing India,' he said. The former foreign minister, Akran said, was proving time and again that he lacked political wisdom, vision, and understanding of regional geopolitics. 'Bilawal has become a symbol of confusion and contradiction in Pakistan's foreign policy discourse… PPP was founded by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto on the legacy of Kashmir, but today, Bilawal is betraying that legacy by pursuing political gains at the expense of Kashmiri blood,' he said. In the interview, Bilawal said that cases prosecuted against these 'individuals' (Saeed and Azhar) were those related to Pakistan, such as terrorist financing. However, he noted that prosecuting them for cross-border terrorism was difficult due to what he claimed was 'noncompliance' from Delhi. 'India is refusing to comply with certain basic elements that require that conviction to take place,' he said. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'It's important … to present evidence within these courts, for people to come over from India to testify, to put up with whatever the counter-accusations will be. If India is willing to be cooperative in that process, I am sure there will be no hurdle in extraditing any individual of concern,' Bilawal said. Pressed on the whereabouts of Saeed and Azhar, Bilawal stated that the former was incarcerated, while Islamabad believes the latter is in Afghanistan. With inputs from agencies
