No pensioner should face problems to get dues: Jitendra
Speaking at the 13th All India Pension Adalat here, Singh underscored the need for administrative sensitivity and efficiency in ensuring the dignity of India's pensioners. At the day-long event that brought together pensioners, government officials, and department heads from across the country, the Minister said that the Pension Adalat model is one of the most citizen-friendly reforms undertaken in recent years. 'A pensioner, who has dedicated a lifetime of service to the nation, should not have to run from pillar to post for what is rightfully theirs,' said Singh, the Minister of State for Personnel. He asked departments to adopt a 'whole-of-government' approach in resolving such matters. Singh emphasised that redressal should not merely be reactive, but also anticipatory, supported by technology and driven by compassion. He further encouraged the use of digital means to reach pensioners who may not be able to attend the Adalat in person. 'These Adalats represent not just a platform for grievance redressal, but also a promise from the government that no voice will go unheard,' he said. Singh said that digital initiatives like CPENGRAMS (Centralised Pension Grievance Redress and Monitoring System) must be leveraged for real-time tracking and resolution. CPENGRAMS allows pensioners to raise their grievances online. The minister urged departments and officials to treat pensioners not just as beneficiaries but as 'respected members of the administrative family'.
Noting that most grievances stem from avoidable delays or procedural issues, he called for greater inter-departmental coordination and accountability. Singh said that the Adalat is not just a redressal forum, but also a barometer of administrative performance. 'When citizens feel heard and respected, it builds trust in governance,' he added. Since their inception in September 2017, 12 Pension Adalats have been held across the country, taking up a total of 25,416 cases — of which 18,157 have been successfully resolved, said a statement issued by the Personnel Ministry. That translates to a resolution rate of over 71 per cent, a number Singh cited as proof of the initiative's effectiveness. The Minister shared several success stories from previous Adalats, including the case of Jasoda Devi, who received her rightful dues after 36 years, and Anita Kanik Rani, who was granted family pension arrears of Rs 20 lakh on the very day her case was heard. At Wednesday's event, Singh also released a compilation of success stories from the 12th Pension Adalat, titled 'Brave Soldiers and Veer Naariyan'. The booklet highlights inspiring accounts of long-pending pension grievances that were resolved through the Adalat mechanism, with a special focus on defence pensioners and families of armed forces personnel.
'These real-life stories stand as a testament to the government's commitment to honouring the service and sacrifice of its retirees, particularly women and 'veer naaris', by ensuring timely justice and dignity in their post-retirement life,' the minister said. This year's Adalat focused on family pension issues, many raised by women either as claimants or recipients. Singh concluded by calling for more citizen-centric and compassionate innovations in pension administration, asserting that the government's duty towards its senior citizens must be fulfilled with both urgency and empathy.

'India's Deng Xiaoping': Andhra Pradesh CM Naidu on Rao's reforms
Describing former Prime Minister (PM) P V Narasimha Rao as 'India's Deng Xiaoping', Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister (CM) N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday said the economic reforms unveiled by the Rao-led minority government in 1991 were the reason India's coalition governments delivered better results than those with clear majorities. The Andhra CM is on a two-day visit to the national capital, where he is scheduled to meet PM Narendra Modi, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and others. He met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday. In his meetings with the PM and Union ministers, Naidu will seek the Centre's support for projects in his state, release of pending funds, the Polavaram–Banakacherla river-linking project, and issues related to the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) sources said. On Tuesday evening, Naidu delivered a lecture on 'The Life and Legacy of P V Narasimha Rao' at the Prime Ministers Museum and Library (PMML) in the national capital. His lecture was the sixth in the PMML-organised Prime Ministers Lecture Series. He described Rao as a 'true Telugu bidda', or Telugu son of the soil, who 'reshaped the destiny' of India, and said the Telugu community is proud of his contributions. Rao, who passed away in December 2004, was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna in 2024. Referring to the recent controversy over some states accusing the Centre of imposing Hindi, Naidu said Rao had mastered 17 languages and serves as an inspiration in the current context. The Andhra CM said Rao, despite leading a minority government, accomplished the near-impossible task of forging consensus on economic reforms among socialists, communists, and capitalists alike. Naidu credited Rao's prime ministerial tenure, and subsequently that of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, for India's first-mover advantage in the information technology sector and for building world-class infrastructure, especially in roads and telecommunications. Naidu said that in 1978, when Deng launched China's economic reforms, both India and China were $140 billion economies, while the US economy was 15x larger at $2.3 trillion. Now, the US economy is only 1.5x bigger than China's, and more than 7x bigger than India's. 'They (China) are catching up (with the US). We are behind,' Naidu said, stressing that the journey from being the world's fourth- or third-largest economy to one of the top two will be much more challenging. Naidu said 2014 was a turning point in India's growth story, with the country getting Modi as PM, who has 'ushered in a new era of bold and decisive leadership'. He said the goal is not just to grow fast, but to grow fairly, where every citizen, every region, and every sector shares the fruit of progress. Citing World Bank data, he said India is among the top four most income-equal countries but stressed that the country still needs to become more equitable. He urged the top 10 per cent of India's wealthy to uplift the bottom 20 per cent, appealing to them to follow tech billionaire Bill Gates' example and 'give back to society'. On his vision for Andhra, Naidu spoke about his government's Quantum Valley initiative in Amaravati. He urged youth to join politics and said the TDP's parliamentary party is the youngest in the Lok Sabha. He also noted that TDP's representative in the Union Cabinet, Civil Aviation Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu, is the youngest minister at the Centre. During his visit to Delhi, Naidu and Telangana CM A Revanth Reddy are also scheduled to attend a meeting on water issues being facilitated by the Centre on Wednesday. The Telangana government is expected to press the Centre to grant approvals and funds for its long-pending projects. It had earlier conveyed its objection to the Centre regarding Andhra's Banakacherla river-linking project, saying that it hurts Telangana's interests.

Yaduveer seeks disaster relief funds for Kodagu
Madikeri: Mysuru MP Yaduveer Wadiyar met Union home minister Amit Shah and requested him to release funds through the National Disaster Management Fund to address rain damages in Kodagu district. He met Shah in Delhi and explained the damages sustained to public properties due to heavy rain. He requested additional relief through the NDRF. The additional funds will enable the construction of barrier walls and road repair. He requested that compensation be provided to solve the problems faced by tobacco and coffee growers and the losses caused by the rain. He stated that he asked the minister to focus on illegal Bangladeshi immigrants living in Kodagu district, and requested the home ministry to take appropriate steps in this regard. Meanwhile, Virajpet MLA AS Ponnanna submitted a request to revenue minister Krishna Byre Gowda to bring amendments to the Revenue Bill. Ponnanna, who met the minister at Vikas Soudha, submitted a request to bring amendments to some bills of the revenue department. He drew attention to the need for amendments to resolve the problem of revenue assessment for the Jammabane of Kodagu, the problem of the landlords, and the problem of P Numbers in the land title deeds. Responding to this, Byre Gowda assured that the necessary amendments would be brought in the upcoming monsoon session, Ponnanna said.

Naxals should embrace Ambedkarvad, says Athawale
Kolhapur: Union minister of social justice Ramdas Athawale , while speaking in Kolhapur on Tuesday, urged all naxals to renounce violence and embrace "Ambedkarvad" — the ideals of Babasaheb Ambedkar. Athawale, who is also the president of the Republican Party of India (RPI), clarified that the Jan Suraksha Act, passed by the state legislature, is not intended to suppress democratic movements. "Instead its target is violent and undemocratic movements like naxalism. Simply expressing dissent through writing or speaking against the govt would not lead to action under this Act," he said. "The method of naxals is to backstab. We were never called naxals when we hit the streets. The way naxals carry out their movement is totally wrong. The govt should not interpret Ambedkarites as naxalites. We are different in ideology and means," he added. On being asked about the likelihood of Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray coming together for the Mumbai municipal election, Athawale said, "Now, there are 60% non-Marathis in Mumbai, and they are against Raj. Both Thackerays will get votes only from Marathi people. We will easily defeat them in the election."
