Collector reviews arrangements for NEET UG 2025
Kurnool: Kurnool District Collector P Ranjith Basha has directed officials to make elaborate and fool proof arrangements for the smooth conduct of the NEET UG 2025 examination scheduled for May 4.
Chairing a review meeting on Thursday at the Collectorate conference hall with Chief Superintendents, line department officials, and police officers, the Collector emphasized that all necessary preparations must be in place to ensure a seamless examination process.
The Collector informed that the examination will be conducted at 16 centers, all located within Kurnool city. A total of 4,466 candidates are expected to appear for the exam, which will be held offline from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Students will be allowed entry into the examination centers from 11:00 AM onwards, and no candidate will be permitted after 1:30 PM, he stated.
To ensure effective monitoring, one district officer has been appointed for every four centers. The Collector instructed officials to ensure the examination proceeds without any untoward incidents. Additionally, a Circle Inspector or Sub-Inspector level police officer has been assigned to each center, along with the appointment of center observers. Training has also been imparted to all Chief Superintendents, he added.
Security measures under Section 163 BNSS will be enforced around examination centers. The Collector directed Tahsildars and police officials to ensure stringent security. He also instructed that question papers arriving at the custodian bank should be brought to the centers under police escort.
The Collector reiterated that all NEET UG regulations and guidelines must be strictly followed. Mobile phones and other electronic gadgets will not be permitted inside the examination centers, he cautioned.
Additional SP Hussain Peera, DSP Babu Prasad, DRO Venkata Narayanamma, Nodal Officer and Kendriya Vidyalaya Principal Payal Priyadarshini, DEO Samuel Paul, and other officials attended the meeting.

In such matters, the police prepare and send proposals to the competent authority, which then processes and issues further directives. The drug money is directly linked to a case registered in July 2020 under sections 21, 22, and 29/61/85 of the NDPS Act at the Barnala police station. Providing insights into the operation, deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Satvir Singh said, 'The case involved around ₹ 1 crore worth of tablets which were recovered.' He said of the total recovered drug money, ₹ 48,58,000 was recovered from Raghu Raja, a resident of Jandiala Guru, Amritsar, while an additional ₹ 11,75,000 was recovered from Vikas Mangla, a resident of Moga. Reverting on the timeline, the DSP said that the trial for this case is currently underway. The process under Section 68(F) is lengthy, which is why it has taken time. It is an ongoing process. He added that investigations are continuing to freeze properties belonging to other individuals involved in the case. 'More than 10 individuals were involved, all of them have been arrested and are on trial,' the DSP added.

Call to make Kurnool a drug-free district
Kurnool: In observance of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, district Collector P Ranjith Basha called for united efforts to transform the district into a drug-free zone. Speaking at a programme at the district Collectorate on Thursday, he underscored the devastating impact of drug abuse on youth and society. He stressed the importance of awareness campaigns, community participation, and strict surveillance measures. He also urged parents to encourage children to engage in sports and cultural activities as a means of keeping them away from harmful influences. The Collector detailed government initiatives aimed at curbing drug abuse, such as inter-departmental coordination meetings, awareness drives in schools and colleges, rehabilitation services, and a toll-free number (1972) for confidential reporting of drug-related activities. He called upon citizens to play an active role in reporting drug supply or consumption in their communities. MP B Nagaraju reiterated the government's goal of achieving 'Ganja-free Andhra Pradesh', highlighting the use of drone and satellite surveillance to detect and eliminate cannabis cultivation. DIG Koya Praveen provided historical context on drug cultivation in the region and credited the current administration for its strict crackdown on such practices. MLA Gouru Charitha observed that drug usage had spread into rural areas but noted that the government's proactive measures, including special committees and dedicated officers, had led to a significant decline in cannabis growth. SP Vikrant Patil warned of severe legal consequences under NDPS Act, while also highlighting the importance of rehabilitation for addicts. Mayor BY Ramayya urged parents to monitor their children's behavior and financial habits. An anti-drug awareness rally was held from Raj Vihar Center to the Collectorate.

In an unverified social media post shortly after the attack, a user identifying himself as Dony Bal Manga claimed responsibility, saying he along with Prabh Dasuwal and Kaushal Chaudhary (both from Haryana) had avenged the killing of a member of their gang, Gora Bariar. The post alleged that Harjit Kaur and Karanvir had been managing the criminal operations of Bhagwanpuria. Batala deputy superintendent of police Paramveer Singh said both the victims sustained bullet injuries on the face, chest, and stomach. Harjit Kaur was rushed to the local civil hospital from where she was referred to a hospital in Amritsar, but succumbed to the bullet injuries. Karanvir, who is the son of a Punjab Police assistant sub inspector, was declared dead at the Batala civil hospital. The DSP said a case has been registered and teams have been formed to arrest the killers. 'We are investigating the motive behind the incident,' he said. Harjit Kaur, who belongs to Bhagwanpur village, was elected as the sarpanch during the previous Congress regime. She was active in the Congress but before the Dera Baba Nanak assembly byelections last year, she joined the Aam Aadmi Party. In March, gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria was detained under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PIT-NDPS) and shifted from Bathinda central jail to Assam's Silchar jail on the recommendation of the Narcotics Control Bureau. Bhagwanpuria was in Punjab Police custody for singer Sidhu Moosewala's murder in Mansa on May 29, 2022. Moosewala was murdered by the Goldy Brar-Lawrence Bishnoi-Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang to avenge the killing of Youth Akali Dal leader Vikramjit Singh, alias Vicky Middukhera, by the Bambiha gang in Mohali on August 7, 2021. Bhagwanpuria faces 128 criminal cases, including high-profile murders and extortion, besides the Arms Act and 13 under the NDPS Act, since 2012.
