The investigation into the murder of a 24-year-old woman by her father, a retired CRPF official, in Jalgaon revealed that he harboured a grudge against his MBBS daughter for marrying a class 12 pass-out, police said on Tuesday.
Kiran Mangle (50) shot dead his daughter Tripti Wagh with his licensed revolver and seriously injured her husband Avinash Wagh on Saturday night when they were attending the 'haldi' ceremony of Avinash's sister in Chopda tehsil in the north Maharashtra district.

Kin claim police torture left 15-year-old immobile; Hyderabad's Jubilee Hills police deny allegations

HYDERABAD: The family of a 15-year-old boy arrested by Jubilee Hills police in Dec 2024 on a voyeurism charge has alleged that police torture during three days of unlawful custody has left the juvenile unable to walk. The police have denied these claims, citing evidence including medical reports to support their stance. On Dec 15, Jubilee Hills police received a complaint from a private employee stating that his neighbour's 15-year-old son, now a class IX student, had attempted to record videos of his family members through a bathroom ventilator. The complainant further alleged that the boy had recorded him in the bathroom, mistakenly believing it was his wife taking a bath. However, the family claimed that while the boy was creating video reels on the staircase of their home, he inadvertently recorded a neighbour in the bathroom. "Neighbours assaulted my son before the police took him on Dec15. He was later released on Dec 17 after being held unlawfully. A constable assaulted my son during this illegal custody," the boy's father, a junior artiste, alleged. The boy's mother claimed their complaints of torture have gone unacknowledged, and family had to spend money on private hospital treatment before taking him to Osmania General Hospital in April. "Now my son cannot walk. He can only crawl. Legal action must be taken against those who tortured him," she said. In response, the police issued a statement including a photo of the boy with his school NCC team, taken four months after the case was filed. They provided a medical certificate from a Professor of Neurology at OGH, dated July 5. The certificate states that the boy is suffering from polyradiculoneuropathy with congenital tethered cord syndrome, ACP Reddy added.

ULFA(I) claims drone attacks on its camps along Myanmar border by Indian Army, defence official says no such information

The banned ULFA(I) on Sunday claimed drone attacks on its camps along the Myanmar border by the Indian Army, though there was no confirmation about the development from the armed forces. According to a PTI report, the ULFA(I) said that the attacks were carried out with drones in the early hours at several mobile camps and that a senior leader of the banned outfit was killed. The outfit also claimed that 19 others were injured in the attacks. When contacted, a defence spokesperson in Guwahati told PTI that there was no information of any such incident. 'There are no inputs with the Indian Army of such an operation,' Lt Col Mahendra Rawat said. On June 14, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had chargesheeted three people accused in the case relating to the ULFA(I) conspiracy to carry out multiple IED blasts in Assam on Independence Day last year. The chargesheeted were identified as Paresh Baruah, Chairman and SS Commander-in-Chief of the proscribed terrorist groups ULFA, along with Abhijit Gogoi and Jahnu Boruah. All three were charged under various sections of BNS, UA (P) Act and The Explosives Substance Act, news agency PTI reported. The trio were found linked with the IED planted by the terror outfit at Dispur Last Gate, Guwahati, Assam, as part of the ULFA (I) conspiracy to trigger multiple IED blasts across Assam, including at Dispur Last Gate, to disrupt the I-Day celebrations last year. NIA, which took over the case in September 2024, found during investigation that the IEDs had been planted to cause death/injuries to persons and/or loss/damage/destruction to property, with the intent to threaten the unity, integrity, security and sovereignty of India, and to strike terror among the people of the country.
