Pregnant lady offered train seat by kind commuter is gobsmacked by what follows

One commuter kindly gave up their seat for a pregnant woman - but chaos ensued.
Any good-hearted citizen would give up their seat for a visibly pregnant person, and lots of public transport vehicles also have priority seats for those who need them. However, despite these policies, there are still times when things can spiral into chaos.
A commuter recently offered their seat to a pregnant lady on a train in London and was horrified by what happened next. The Reddit user recalled how they'd stood up for a pregnant woman got on the London Underground, only for a man to get in the way and "steal" the seat instead, reported The Mirror.

They said: 'This morning [I] was heading into London on the Jubilee line from Stanmore. After a few stops I saw a pregnant woman get on and the people in the priority seats just ignored her so I offered her mine.

'As soon as I stood up a man pushed her away and took the seat I had just vacated. It was bad enough seeing people not give up priority seats but then to see that and he just sat there obstinately as I told him it was for a pregnant woman. '
The kind commuter decided to look up the man's workplace as he was wearing a work top. Ironically, they discovered that the man is employed by a company that 'makes products to help people with mobility and health issues".
The Reddit rant has garnered more than 600 comments, including from the pregnant woman the post is referring to and her husband.
She remarked: 'Firstly, to the kind man who offered your seat, thank you so much for doing the right thing and I think we were both gobsmacked by this other man's behaviour.'
She then gave some more information about what happened: 'To clarify the situation, I got on the tube this morning and since I am 8 months pregnant I usually ask for a seat if someone isn't offering it, since I know people can be in their own world or on their phones.

'However, this morning, I didn't have to as this kind man stood up and then this other 2 meter tall, well built man pushed in front of me to grab the seat.
'I said 'excuse me, I think this seat was meant for me' and the kind man said the same thing. He just looked us both in the eye, didn't say anything but remained seated.
'The kind man said 'I can't believe you just took a pregnant woman's seat' but nothing from him, he shortly after pretended to sleep, probably not to face the looks of the rest of the carriage.'

The woman added that luckily, she was then offered a priority seat by another commuter but she 'didn't want to kick up more of a fuss'. She worried about what the man who took the seat could do next.
She concluded her comment: 'I would have understood if he also had a disability but he had clearly been capable to stand until that point, didn't wear a badge or say anything in his defence.
'I think he was just lazy and rude. My main thought was: I wonder what his mum would have said if she saw his behaviour…'

Gardeners urged to hang old and unwanted CD's in the garden in July

If you've a stack of old ones lurking in a cupboard, they could be put to good use outdoors this month. Many households will have a stack of old CD's lurking in an overflowing cupboard from the days before streaming was a thing. If they're sat there gathering dust, you could actually be using them in the garden for a good reason. Gardeners have been urged to hang CD's outside this month as a way of protecting their outdoor spaces. And it's not to create a pretty, shiny display, they can in fact deter pigeons and other birds from feeding on your fruit and vegetables. ‌ DVD's, which are also pretty much a thing of the past since the invention of Netflix and Prime Video, will also work just as well, reports the Express. ‌ Birds can be a lovely addition to the garden in the summer months but some will feed on your fruit and veg leaving your well-tended crops worse for wear. That's where the shiny discs come in. Birds, including pigeons, are frightened of them. Lining your CD's along the side of any raised beds or areas where you've planted things like strawberries and raspberries will help to scare them off, say experts. While magpies are said to be attracted to shiny objects, in fact they will not go near an area with CD's hanging. The reflecting light and their movement in the wind will be enough to keep predator birds away from your crops. Gardening page Food For Trees & Africa said: 'Did you know that by hanging old CD's around your food garden, you'll startle birds with the reflecting light and keep them away from your vegetables and herbs. It's a trick we've put into action at the Food & Trees for Africa food garden. 'Start by hanging the discs loosely so that the slightest breeze makes them spin and catch the sun's rays. Every now and then, change their location around your beds to prevent the birds from getting accustomed to them.' The CD's will instantly kick start birds' flight response and they will rush to get away from them. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! If you're curious, you can read our Privacy Notice. ‌ It's important to change the location of the discs occasionally however to prevent the birds from becoming too used to the scattering light. Then you can grow strawberries, raspberries, tomatoes and other crops without fear of winged invaders, and redirect birds towards safer areas like lawns where they can feed on slugs and worms instead. If you don't happen to have any CD's or DVD's, or indeed they are something you still listen to or watch, you can buy packs of rods or discs which will serve as a deterrent. Amazon sell a pack of 8 reflective bird deterrent rods for £5.99 or 6 piece reflective discs for £11.39. But if you have a bag of CD's or DVD's sat there, it's a cheap and easy way to protect your fruit and veg this summer.

People furious as McDonald's implements 30 minute rule in certain restaurants

McDonald's is a global fast food chain loved by adults and children – but it has changed a lot over the years. One customer shared that some restaurants have a '30 minute rule' when eating in People are furious as McDonald's appears to have implemented a 30 minute rule in some of its restaurants. The fast food giant is recognised across the world for its burgers, fries, Chicken McNuggets and other items. It has restaurants globally and the first one opened in the UK in Woolwich, south London in 1974. Many people have fond memories of celebrating their birthday at McDonald's when they were children. The PlayPlace was a popular feature of the franchise, particularly in the 1980s and 1990s. ‌ McDonald's was known as a warm, inviting place to go for a casual sit-down meal with family and friends. But customers believe this has changed, with drive-thrus becoming more regularly used. ‌ A user on Reddit shared their shock as they posted a photo inside a McDonald's restaurant with a sign that states: 'Please - no loitering. Time limit: 30 minutes while consuming food.' The angry customer said: '2nd McDonald's I've been to like this in less than a week... Only 5 tables in the restaurant, no self serve drink machine, no condiments out, not even [a] napkin dispenser... What happened to McDonald's being a family friendly restaurant for kids to play at like in the 90s?' The user didn't specify which McDonald's restaurant they spotted this sign at but others in the comment section shared that they have seen similar ones. McDonald's has confirmed that the '30 minute rule' is not a UK policy so the post is likely to be referring to US locations. Someone shared: 'Surprised to see people constantly posting this sign like it's new. It was up at my local McDonald's way back in early 2010s.' ‌ Another user replied: 'That's what I was about to say, these signs have been around for a very long time.' The sign with the '30 minute rule' seems to have angered some other customers in the comment section. One remarked: 'Greed got in the way. They want the customers then don't want to serve them. ‌ 'Keep killing refills and making dining rooms uncomfortable and you won't have to worry about sitting down any more. 'The remodeled one by me used to be bustling, now there's no menu board, no cashier , no refills , cash kiosks, no TV and the most uncomfortable seating ever. No one eats inside any longer.' A second user sarcastically commented: 'I respect that they don't want me inside there eating. I respect it so much that I just don't go there any more!' ‌ A third chimed in: 'Rising costs and a changed culture fueled this change. It's not just McDonald's. 'There are no more real family friendly fast food restaurants left. It's all just get your food [and] get out now.' However, some people understood why the restaurant might have put up this sign. A user guessed: 'That no loitering sign is probably just posted to allow staff to kick out people who stay there all day or something. 'I've loitered for 2 hours in a McDonalds that has that sign working on my laptop while sipping coffee and they didn't care.' A former McDonald's employee added: 'Probably also a way to kick out teenagers who come in and buy 1 cheeseburger between 10 of them and then torment the workers. [It] was a huge issue back when I worked there.'
