Proposed flyover set to improve city connectivity

Time of Indiaa day ago
Prayagraj: In a major infrastructural development under the Smart City initiative, a new flyover is set to be constructed on Stanley Road to streamline traffic movement in the city.
Spanning approximately 1,700 metres, this four-lane flyover will be the longest in the Prayagraj division.
The project, which will cost over Rs 125 crore, aims to decongest some of the city's busiest intersections and improve overall connectivity.
As per the initial proposal, the flyover will start near Kalash crossing (the starting point of the six-lane bridge over the Ganga) and extend up to Lok Seva Aayog crossing.
Its strategic alignment will connect directly to the six-lane bridge, providing a seamless route for vehicles arriving from Lucknow and Ayodhya to reach Maharshi Bharadwaj (Balson) crossing.
Among other benefits for commuters, particularly the population residing in Talirganj and Phaphamau, along with those using the under-construction bridge over the river Ganga, this will significantly reduce pressure on Lala Lajpat Rai Road.

This is one of the city's major bottlenecks, where frequent traffic jams have been a persistent issue, especially near the blood bank, police reserved lines and Muir Hall.
According to project director from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Mohammad Nusratullah Khan, the proposal is being finalised, and the process of preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) will commence shortly. The ministry has already conducted two on-ground inspections of the proposed route.
The construction is expected to take between two to two and a half years. During this period, Stanley Road will also be widened to accommodate increased vehicular load. Officials earlier planned to begin the project ahead of the Maha Kumbh, but due to time constraints, it was postponed.
Once completed, the flyover is expected to benefit over 50,000 daily commuters.

Toll rates on national highways with bridges, tunnels cut by up to 50 pc

The government has reduced toll rates by up to 50 per cent for sections of National Highways that have tunnels, bridges, flyovers elevated stretches. The move is set to lower travelling cost for motorists. Currently, user charges at toll fee plazas are collected as per NH Fee Rules, 2008. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has made amendment to 2008 rules and notified a new method or formula for calculating toll charges. "The rate of fee for use of a section of national highway comprising of structure or structures shall be calculated by adding ten times the length of structure or structures to the length of the section of national highway excluding the length of structure or structures, or five times the total length of section of national highway, whichever is lesser," said the notification dated July 2, 2025. The ministry gave examples for easier understanding. Live Events In one of the examples, it said that if a section of a national highway has a total length of 40 kilometers, comprising of structure alone, the minimum length shall be computed: '10 x 40 (ten times length of structure) = 400 kilometers or five times the total length of section of a national highway = 5 x 40 = 200 kilometers'. "User fee shall be calculated on the lesser length i.e. for 200 kilometers" and not 400 kilometers. In this case the user charge is only on half (50 per cent) of the road length. According the existing rules, users pay ten times the regular toll for every kilometre of structure on national highways. A senior official of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) said the existing toll calculation method was meant to offset higher construction cost associated with such infrastructure.

RIP: American Airlines flight diverted after passenger snoops on seatmate's condolence message, spreads panic

American Airlines had to divert a flight after a passenger spread alarm saying she saw 'RIP' text on co-passenger's phone. An American Airlines flight had to be diverted back to Puerto Rico after a passenger spread panic that there was a threat to the flight. The passenger saw a co-passenger's text message that read 'RIP' (Rest In Peace). The woman told the crew she had read the ominous acronym RIP on a fellow passenger's mobile phone and assumed it meant the plane was doomed. The crew member on board AA 1847 immediately alerted the cockpit and the pilot began emergency procedures, which said they should land at the next opportunity. "American Airlines flight 1847, with service from San Juan (SJU) to Dallas Fort Worth (DFW), returned to SJU shortly after departure due to a possible security concern," a spokesperson for American Airlines told media. "The flight landed safely at SJU, and law enforcement inspected and cleared the aircraft to re-depart. Safety and security are our top priorities and we apologize to our customers for the inconvenience," the statement added. American Airlines flight 1847 took off from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in Isla Verde. The flight was headed for Dallas but ultimately returned to San Juan amid the perceived threat about 30 minutes after taking off. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like They Were So Beautiful Before; Now Look At Them; Number 10 Will Shock You Reportingly Undo The passenger who received the RIP message lost a relative the day before and the message was in connection with the tragedy. Visiting US parks just got pricier — for foreign tourists, thanks to Trump's new order

Are you planning a trip to America's national parks? If you are not a US resident, expect to pay more. President Donald Trump's new executive order aims to increase entrance fees for international visitors. He has issued an executive order on Thursday directing the Interior Department to raise entrance and recreation fees for foreign tourists visiting US national parks. The move, which is expected to generate more than $90 million per year, will also give priority to US residents when applying for permits. Critics claim the move undermines inclusivity and conservation efforts. For any national park that presently charges admission, it directs Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, who is in charge of the National Park Service, to "develop a strategy" to increase entrance costs and recreation pass prices for visitors who are not U.S. citizens. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Top 15 Prettiest Icons In The History The Noodle Box Read More Undo How much more will foreign tourists pay? According to the Interior Department's May fiscal year budget proposal, such a surcharge would bring in over $90 million a year. Live Events Not all national parks have entry fees, and those that do have different prices. Typically, guests can buy an annual pass that can be used at one park or in a particular area of the nation, or they can buy a regular daily or weekly pass to one particular park. A more extensive "America the Beautiful" pass, available at all national parks across the country for $80, is also provided by the Park Service. Entrance fees to some of the most visited locations in the National Park Service, such as the Grand Canyon, Yosemite, and Yellowstone, are $20 per person or $35 per car. Will Americans get park access priority? The Interior Department was also directed by President Trump to give U.S. citizens "preferential treatment" over foreign tourists with regard to "recreational access rules, including permitting or lottery rules" that may be in effect at parks. Americans do get priority access to park permits and recreation with this new order. While some well-known national parks have reservation systems for access and camping during high seasons, the ruling did not specify what those preferential treatment standards would entail. The president also created the "Make America Beautiful Again" Commission in a separate executive order, whose duties include encouraging voluntary conservation activities and increasing recreational access to public lands and rivers. A memorandum signed in January 2017, at the end of former President Barack Obama's second term, that aimed to advance diversity and inclusion at national parks was also repealed by the order Thursday. The action seems to be a part of the Trump administration's continued attempt to reduce federal diversity initiatives. The Interior Department also suggested reducing funding for the Park Service by about $1 billion in its fiscal year budget for 2026, the worst budget drop in the agency's history. The most recent actions follow efforts by the Trump administration to cut the number of employees at the National Park Service. About 1,000 Park Service workers were let go by the administration in February as part of its efforts to implement significant budget and staff cuts throughout the federal government. Since President Trump took office in January, the Park Service has lost 24 percent of its permanent employees, according to a report this week from the National Parks Conservation Association. FAQs Are U.S. park fees increasing for everyone? No, only for foreign visitors. US residents will continue to pay standard rates, while international tourists may face new surcharges. Will Americans have improved access to reservations now? Possible. The order prioritizes US residents for permits and lotteries at parks with limited access systems.
