You've got to hand it to the folks at Disney when it comes to spreading love and positivity through storytelling. From classic fairytales to newly crafted originals, they just know what and how to do it.
Joining this collection of feel-good stories is their latest offering called Elio.
Produced in collaboration with animation experts Pixar, the animated feature is yet another modern tale filled with lessons for today's generation of kids and even adults.
The film depicts the life of Elio Solis, a young orphan boy who lost his parents due to an accident and is raised by his aunt Olga, who is an Air Force major who gave up her dream of becoming an astronaut to raise and care for her nephew. Unfortunately, after the death of his parents, young Elio feels lost and has problems fitting in with the rest of his peers. He then develops an obsession for extraterrestrial contact with hopes that 'aliens' would abduct him and that he can escape his current plight of loneliness on Earth.
This obsession leads him to countless attempts of creating contraptions that may realise his dream of establishing contacts with visitors of the outer world.
One day while following his aunt to her Air Force base workplace, Elio hears of news that some form of vague contact was made with beings from outer space but no one takes heed and ignores the incident.
Convinced that the incident was real, Elio secretly responds to the signal without the knowledge of the people at the base. Unknowingly, the signal reaches its source to an intergalactic council of extraterrestrials.
They then respond by tracking Elio's location and message by coming to planet Earth and abducting him as Elio intended.
Elio who is overjoyed by the abduction is then introduced to the intergalactic council and is given the welcome he had always dreamed of.
Extremely happy to have his dream come true, he then makes friends with another young alien being named Glordon, a prince from another planet who is expected to live up to his father's expectations, King Grigon who is not well accepted by the council due to his warmongering intentions and violent nature.
Elio and Glordon however, create a special friendship bond making them inseparable friends.
However, King Grigon warns the council that if they do not let him join the council, he would wage war on the council and all the membering planets.
Bent on staying in outer space and refusing to go back to Earth, Elio volunteers to negotiate with Grigon by using his son Glordon as bait.
While Elio is stuck on the other end of the galaxy, a clone version of himself is sent to Earth to ensure that no one suspects his disappearance and this is when everything slowly unravels. Elio and Glordon form a special bond that makes them inseparable. Photo: Disney
The plot of the film is cleverly crafted to suit today's set of viewers as the message behind the tale is well highlighted.
Sharing the real plight of young people who get bullied and ostracised with parents and guardians who do not understand what they are going through is nothing new, but the film gives a stark reminder of today's reality.
It reminds us that not everyone can fit into one general box and that different people just need different kinds of surroundings and attention.
It also shows that love works both ways and like everything in life, requires some form of effort from everyone involved.
This makes Elio a wholesome movie perfect for the whole family who can appreciate a good laugh and some wild imagination.
Elio is currently screening in all cinemas across Malaysia since June 19, 2025.

Movie Tea: Nicholas Hoult Addresses Kelsey Grammer's Return As Beast; Script For 'Batman II' Finally Complete

We are once again delving into the world of superheroes, as rumblings from both Marvel and DC are shaking things up! Here's what you need to know to keep yourself up to date on upcoming movies out of Hollywood. Nicholas Hoult Opens Up About Kelsey Grammer's Return in 'Avengers: Doomsday' Ever since the announcement of 'Avengers: Doomsday', alongside the cast reveal, many have been absolutely hyped for the cinematic event. Not only did it confirm the return of the most familiar faces in the current MCU, but it also confirmed the return of many actors from the Fox Marvel movies! One of those returning Fox faces is none other than Kelsey Grammer, who is largely known for his depiction of Beast in the 'X-Men' series back in the early 2000s. He is, of course, joined by other legends of his era, such as Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart. Naturally, many of the more recent actors of the same legendary characters, such as James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender, have taken a step back to watch the OGs do their thing, but one of them decided to give a piece of their mind about this move and it's none other than Nicholas Hoult, the most recent actor for Beast. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actor discussed the news of Grammer returning to his role of Beast. In it, he fully confirmed that he will not be returning at all for Phase 6 of the MCU. He then added that he is 'excited' to see Kelsey don the blue make-up. 'Kelsey was a great Beast,' said Nicholas Hoult. 'He was the Beast I saw when I was a kid, along with the other actors that they're bringing back, Patrick and Ian and James and all them. Those were the characters that I got to watch in X-Men movies. I'm excited to see what they do with it. It'll be fun to see how they incorporate those characters into that world.' Though it is saddening to know that Hoult will not be returning to the MCU anytime soon, it is quite understandable as to why. There's no denying that names such as James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn, and Alan Cumming have a more potent nostalgia factor when it comes to older fans and have a greater legacy compared to the 'X-Men' prequel stars. It is also worth mentioning that the series' last film, 'Dark Phoenix', ended with more of a whimper rather than a triumphant roar before Fox was ultimately acquired by Disney, ending the series entirely. However, hope is not lost yet, as Hoult has yet to have any discussion with Marvel. Though the possibility of him returning is unlikely, it is not impossible. Remember: as grand as 'Avengers: Doomsday' is, it is still a precursor to 'Avengers: Secret Wars', and Disney is simply keeping the prequel stars as an ace in their back pockets. Matt Reeves & Mattson Tomlin Complete 'The Batman: Part II' Script After almost three and a half years, Matt Reeves has finally completed the script for Robert Pattinson's 'The Batman'. Yes, it is quite hard to believe after so many delays and pushbacks, but it is real this time. And the proof can be found in Matt Reeves' official X post, where he and co-writer Mattson Tomlin can be seen in the background with the completed script taking centre stage. Of course, even though the script has been officially penned, we still have no info about what it contains. Naturally, coming out fresh from the oven, the two writers have not yet decided or locked in on any other new casting that we might see for this upcoming sequel. Pair this up with the release of James Gunn's 'Superman' being just around the corner, and we can't help but feel or hope for a potential crossover event between these two DC titans! Of course, we still need to see how things shake out before we start daydreaming about any collaboration movies. We'll get to see the Caped Crusader swing into cinemas again on 1st October, 2027.
