WWE Raw takeaways: Cody Rhodes, Jade Cargill advance to tournament finals
WWE Monday Night Raw on June 23 took place at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, and featured the last semifinal matches in the Queen and King of the Ring tournament.
On this week's show, The New Day finally got a tag title match scheduled, Sami Zayn got fed up with Karrion Kross, Raquel Rodriguez put Rhea Ripley through a sponsored table, and Bron Breakker got a nice win over Penta.
Check out the top takeaways from this episode:
Seth Rollins is the "the finish line"
Opening this week's show was Seth Rollins on the mic along with his crew of Paul Heyman, Bronson Reed and Bron Breakker. Rollins referred to everyone in the ring as "the future," which not the first time the group has been labeled as such. However, they still have not yet been given an official name.
After taking credit for everything good in WWE, Rollins went off about CM Punk being a thorn in his side. He also made mention of Jey Uso, Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton, who were all still active in the King of the Ring tournament, but Rollins warned they were all fighting for second place.
As long as Rollins holds the Money in the Bank briefcase, he holds "the finish line" and "the endgame."
There really wasn't anything new here in this promo, but Rollins delivered it well. WWE really, really should slap an official name on this group. Just go with "The Future" and print the t-shirts.
Jade Cargill advances to Queen of the Ring final
The last spot in the Queen of the Ring final was determined between Jade Cargill vs. Roxanne Perez.
It was speed vs. power, and early in the match, Perez frustrated Cargill by running all around the ring, inside and out in a game of cat and mouse. Well, eventually the cat outsmarted the mouse and licked her face.
Once Cargill got a hold of Perez, the power game was on display. However, Perez found a way to damage Cargill's leg, which then became her focus. Cargill sold the leg damage well as she struggled to complete moves and showed affects until the end of the match. That end came after a sequence of a powerbomb followed by Jaded for the three count.
After the match, while Cargill posed next to the display crown at the entrance, Asuka joined her for a photo-op face-off for their match taking place at Night of Champions on Saturday.
We've seen Cargill take on opponents much bigger like Nia Jax and much smaller like with Perez, and she's been performing well with everyone. The match vs. Asuka will be interesting. Will it be Queen Asuka or Queen Jade? Both are deserving, but it's arguable that Asuka needs the win more here.
Goldberg, Gunther trade intense promos
A pre-taped interview with Goldberg and Michael Cole was shown during the show to hype up the match against Gunther. Goldberg, looking every bit of 58 while sitting in the chair, said in so many words that he couldn't allow Gunther to get away with talking trash.
Goldberg said he didn't know who his retirement match was going to be against, but Gunther kind of volunteered himself for it by opening his mouth.
"I am gonna beat the f*** out of Gunther!" Goldberg said.
Later in the show, Gunther marched to the ring to offer his rebuttal.
Gunther was intense as ever. He said Goldberg was the man in his day, but it's no longer 1999. He then got up close to the camera and offered an apology to Goldberg's wife and son for what he's going to do to him.
"It's my personal responsibility to make sure that the legacy and the myth of Bill Goldberg forever dies!" Gunther said.
This was the absolute best thing WWE could have done with these promos. Allowing Goldberg to be in a controlled environment to speak his piece, and then having Gunther come out like a terrifying killer was excellent promo work. Gunther also directly saying we're not in the late '90s anymore was perfect too, because he's not shying away from the ridiculousness of this matchup.
The match is dumb, but this was about as good as it gets for what they have to work with here.
Becky Lynch retains IC title
The Women's Intercontinental Championship was on the line in a singles match between the champ Becky Lynch and challenger Bayley, who was rocking the gear she intended to wear before getting pulled off WrestleMania 41.
As expected, Bayley and Lynch put on a fantastic back-and-forth match. Both had big moments and kept the crowd into it. Things eventually spilled to the outside of the ring, where Lynch attempted to bury Bayley underneath the commentary desk by covering her with chairs for a count out win.
Lyra Valkyria appeared from the crowd to assist Bayley back into the ring. Valkyria got up on the ring apron, refusing to his Lynch as she pointed at her chin, attempting to draw the DQ. Lynch ended up kicking Valkyria a moment later, which prompted her to enter the ring and attack, just as Bayley had went to the top rope looking to put her finishing touches on the match.
Lynch escaped with the DQ win as Lynch and Valkyria argued in the ring.
Welp, Bayley gets screwed again. Even though Bayley and Valkyria made peace in a backstage segment before the match, all of that went out the window. It's always good to get title matches on weekly television, but more often than not, you can expect shenanigans, and that's what happened here.
Cody Rhodes advances to King of the Ring final
The main event of this week's episode was none other than "Main Event" Jey Uso against his good friend Cody Rhodes for the last spot in the King of the Ring final. The babyface vs. babyface clash started with respect from both before getting down to business.
Rhodes pulled out a kimura submission as a counter to an Uso Splash, and then Uso reversed into what has become a useful hold for him, the sleeper. A few moments later, Rhodes met Uso on the top rope for a superplex.
After regaining some momentum, Uso went for a Cross Rhodes. Instead, he got hit with a Cody Cutter. Rhodes would go for a Disaster Kick, but got hit with a spear as the back-and-forth continued.
After Rhodes hit a top rope Cody Cutter, Uso would connect with a Cross Rhodes. Then Uso unloaded with a series of kicks and a spear, but it wasn't enough. Rhodes hulked up for a top rope neckbreaker followed by a Cross Rhodes for the win.
After the match, Rhodes and Uso embraced, showing no hard feelings after a hard-fought competition between friends.
Rhodes advances to the final, where he will meet Randy Orton at Night of Champions for the King of the Ring crown. It makes sense Rhodes won here because he needed to get back to singles success.

WWE Night of Champions big takeaways: Seth Rollins is the ultimate wild card
The vision for SummerSlam is beginning to come into picture after an eventful WWE Night of Champions 2025 event on Saturday at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. WWE crowned a new King of the Ring and Queen of the Ring, Solo Sikoa regained his footing, and Karrion Kross was finally provided space to earn more television time. As we unpack all that went down, with Saturday Night's Main Event right around the corner, here are our biggest takeaways from WWE Night of Champions 2025. 1. John Cena's greatest hits run continues John Cena's final championship run has mapped out against essentially his greatest hits. In true goodbye tour fashion, his programs against Randy Orton, R-Truth and Punk served their purpose in providing the nostalgia fans expected. With a rematch against Cody Rhodes now slated for SummerSlam, the only ghost from Cena's past missing from this existing run was a showdown with Seth Rollins. Advertisement Mr. Money in the Bank made his presence felt in a chaotic main event — and he's someone who should certainly be waiting in the wings. While Cena ultimately came out on top despite interference from Rollins, Bron Breakker, Bronson Reed, Sami Zayn and Penta, the path forward is less clear than it was coming into the night. What happens from here through December between the featured trio of Cena, Rhodes and Rollins serves as WWE's most intriguing storyline heading into the back half of the year. 2. King Cody Rhodes Since losing the WWE championship at WrestleMania 41, Cody Rhodes' absence from WWE programming gave John Cena time to run through his past. Now back in the fold, Rhodes has swiftly regained his momentum and his upcoming tilt with Cena feels fresh again. With Cena vs. Rhodes 2 slated to headline the first-ever two-night SummerSlam, here's to hoping it lives up to the hype after their first match fell flat. Advertisement Saturday's finish to Rhodes vs. Orton — and the aftermath, as Rhodes gave an interview in the ring in front of a stewing Orton — also seems to allude to this being just the beginning of their potential rivalry. We'll see if "The Viper" plays any role in the build to SummerSlam. 3. Jade Cargill can taste championship gold Jade Cargill's presentation in the WWE essentially since Day 1 has been building toward this moment. Her WrestleMania 41 match against Naomi gave WWE confidence that she's ready for a championship run, and dispatching Asuka in a hard-hitting match to be crowned Queen of the Ring did more to boost her stature. Even still, Naomi waiting in the wings with the Money in the Bank briefcase promises to make her first chance at WWE gold as chaotic as ever. 4. Solo Sikoa's Bloodline is back The leader of the renewed Bloodline, Solo Sikoa, desperately needed a strong showing at Night of Champions. Over the past six months he's fallen as a potential title contender, seen his program with Roman Reigns end, and ultimately Jacob Fatu leapfrogged him on his way up the WWE roster. Advertisement Sikoa needed some help, but a revitalized Bloodline giving Sikoa the United States Championship on Saturday makes him a threat once again. The rivalry with Fatu isn't close to being over, and with Sikoa now flanked by JC Mateo, Tanga Loa and the debuting Hikuelo, he's gotten his mojo back. 5. Karrion Kross earns his moment Fans have been clamoring for Karrion Kross to get more television time, and him serving as the proverbial devil on Sami Zayn's shoulder was an excellent way to give him his sink or swim moment. While nothing to write home about, the match served its purpose, gave Zayn his moment in front of the Riyadh crowd, and most importantly of all, furthered the movement to get Kross on television.

WWE Night Of Champions 2025 Results, Winners And Grades On June 28
John Cena defends the WWE Championship against CM Punk. WWE Night of Champions 2025 advertised two title matches, including John Cena defending his WWE Championship against CM Punk, and the crowning of a new King and Queen of the Ring. Cody Rhodes faces Randy Orton in the King of the Ring finals, while Jade Cargill faces Asuka in the Queen of the Ring finals. The King and Queen of the Ring will also become No. 1 contender for a world title match. WWE Night Of Champions Results On June 28, 2025 WWE Night Of Champions 2025 Highlights, Winners And Grades From Saudi Arabia Cody Rhodes Def. Randy Orton English may not be their first language, but fans in Saudi Arabia sang every word to both Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes' theme songs. Both Rhodes and Randy were cheered wildly during their entrances. Fans went back and forth chanting for Cody and Randy, but eventually settled into 'RKO' chants. The two stars paused as fans went into business for themselves with an 'ole' chants. Rhodes went to the top rope early and paid for it as Orton answered with a superplex. Orton sold his lower back after hitting the move as Cole played it up by saying 'perhaps it seized up again.' Rhodes, playing a de facto heel, immediately went after Orton's back. Fans actually booed Cody Rhodes as he wrapped Orton's back around the post. Wade Barrett said we were seeing a different side of Cody Rhodes. Orton sold his back brilliantly, struggling to hook the leg after making a spirited comeback. Orton kicked out of the Cross Rhodes, and moments later, Rhodes walked into an RKO for another nearfall. Orton teased a punt to a huge reaction, but he hesitated like Rhodes at WrestleMania 41. Fans chanted 'Yes!' prompting Orton to go for the kick, only to miss and get trapped in a Figure 4. Cody ate a second RKO while going for the Cody Cutter, but he kicked out in a great false finish. Babyface Orton brought a steel chair into the ring, and when the referee absconded with it, Orton exposed the steel turnbuckle. Cody rammed Randy into the turnbuckle and won the match. Rhea Ripley Def. Raquel Rodriguez Rhea Ripley and Raquel Rodriguez were dressed in similar full-bodied gear, which made it seem like a tag team getting into a fight. Ripley took a scary bump early in the match, but the referee checked on her immediately and she was okay. After teasing a table spot, Rhea knocked Raquel off the table and went for a somersault. Rodriguez caught Ripley and slammed her through a table cover propped up on the barricade. Ripley took off her belt and whipped the hell out of Raquel Rodriguez, but in a bodysuit, it didn't look all that painful. Roxanne Perez hit the ring and attacked Rhea Ripley after her recent alliance with Raquel. Perez took a suplex on the outside for her troubles. The distraction led to Rodriguez throwing Ripley into the steel steps. After Rodriguez propped up a table on the top rope, Ripley won the match with a Riptide from atop the table. Sami Zayn Def. Karrion Kross Fans were really into Sami Zayn, but they treated Karrion Kross like 2023 Karrion Kross. I guess Internet wrestling promos doesn't translate Arabic just yet. Kross got a lot of offense, including Doomsday Saito and a Death Valley Driver. Zayn countered a Kross Hammer with a Blue Thunder Bomb for a nearfall. Sami worked Riyadh into a frenzy while setting up for a Helluva Kick, only to be intercepted by Kross and trapped in a rear-naked choke. Saudi exploded when Sami raised his arm and fought out of the choke. Kross trash-talked Zayn in the corner, but Sami hit the Helluva Kick as an arrogant Kross ran to the opposite turnbuckle. Solo Sikoa Def. Jacob Fatu This match moved slowly with several rest holds, almost as if they were saving some of the bigger spots for down the road. The match got interesting when Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa returned, followed by the debut of the unnamed Hikuleo, who chokeslammed Fatu on the table. Solo won the US Title with the Samoan Spike and the new Bloodline reformed. Jade Cargill Def. Asuka Asuka was very popular in Saudi Arabia, while Jade Cargill was booed. Cargill seemed fired up by the icy reception in Saudi. Fans loudly chanted for Asuka early on in the match. Her strategy was to take out Jade's legs and keep her grounded. Asuka slapped on a knee bar, but Cargill turned it into an impressive wheelbarrow suplex. Fans backed Asuka during a striking battle, which ended with a stiff backhand from Asuka punctuated by a Codebreaker. Asuka went for an Empress Impact during a comeback, but Jade countered with a Jaded for the win. Fans were deflated with the result, but that's their problem. John Cena Def. CM Punk Both John Cena and CM Punk got babyface reactions, but Cena was cheered more. The pace was slow early, with each wrestler exchanging holds, including AJ Lee's Black Widow from CM Punk. After an exchange of finishers, Cena accidentally took out referee Dan Engler. This brought out Money in the Bank winner Seth Rollins and his unnamed faction.
