Tihar jail prisoner dies by suicide inside jail
The prisoner was an under-trial inmate, namely Ramesh Karmakar, who was lodged in Jail Number 4 but was undergoing treatment at the jail hospital in Jail Number 3 since May 28.
Karmakar's body was found hanging from a window late on the night of Sunday, and the jail authorities were informed on the early morning of Monday.
In another such case, an accused named Saquib Nachan in connection with the terror group Islamic State (ISIS), died in Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital, informed sources said on Saturday.
He has been in judicial custody in Tihar Jail since 2023 and was admitted to the hospital a few days ago, they said.
Saquib was convicted for his involvement in the bomb blasts in Mumbai in 2002 and 2003.
In line with the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Saquib Nachan, a habitual offender in many previous terror cases, was also a self-styled Amir-e-Hind for ISIS in India.
Earlier in June 2024, the National Investigative Agency (NIA) had chargesheeted Nachan along with 16 hardcore agents of a proscribed global terrorist network, in a conspiracy involving the recruitment and radicalisation of youth and the fabrication of improvised explosive devices in the Delhi-Padgha ISIS terror module case.
The accused were chargesheeted under various sections of IPC, UA(P) Act, Arms Act and Explosive Substances ACt, were found to have been engaged in a massive ISISI conspirancy involving recruitment, training and propagation of Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) ideology among gullible youth, along with fabrication of explosives and IEDs are fund-raising for the banned outfit.
Its investigation had subsequently led to the seizure of several incriminating documents and data relating to the manufacturing of explosives and the fabrication of IEDs, along with propaganda magazines like 'Voice of Hindi', 'Rumiyah', 'Khhiafat', 'Dabiq', published by IS.

HC adjourns hearing in Rampur Yatim Khana eviction case to July 28
Prayagraj: The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday adjourned hearing in a matter of forcible eviction in 2016 from a Yatim Khana (orphanage) in Rampur and fixed July 28 as the next date for hearing. The order was passed by Justice Samir Jain on the petition filed by Mohammad Islam and another. Along with this petition, another petition filed by Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan is also connected. In the matter, about 12 separate FIRs were lodged in which ex-MP Mohammad Azam Khan and several others were accused. Earlier, the high court in its order dated June 11 observed that the trial in the case would proceed, but no final order shall be passed. Later, the petition filed by Azam Khan, along with another petition, was also connected with the case of Mohd Islam. The case, originating from 12 FIRs registered between 2019 and 2020 at Kotwali Police Station in Rampur pertains to an alleged incident on Oct 15, 2016, involving the demolition of unauthorised structures on the Waqf property known as Yateem Khana (Waqf no-157). These FIRs, initially tried as separate cases, were consolidated into a single trial (Special Case No. 45 of 2020) by the Special Judge (MP/MLA) in Rampur on Aug 8, 2024. The accused, including prominent figures, face charges of dacoity, house trespass, and criminal conspiracy under the IPC. This petition challenges the trial court's May 30, 2025, order rejecting their requests to recall informants and key prosecution witnesses, including Zafar Ahmad Farooqui, chairman of the Sunni Central Waqf Board, and to produce exculpatory videographic evidence of the 2016 eviction. The applicants argue that this evidence, acknowledged by Farooqui, could exonerate them by proving their absence from the scene.

‘Fake marriage party' busted, teens caught drinking alcohol
Amravati: A so-called 'Fake Marriage Party' organised late Sunday night at a high-end restaurant and bar in posh Shankar Nagar area of Amravati was raided by cops. Amravati crime branch said approximately 80 minors (boys and girls) were part of the gathering, and many were found consuming alcohol. Police said a fake marriage party is a themed celebration that mimics a traditional wedding with music, dancing, and multi-day festivities but without an actual marriage. The event on Sunday was allegedly the first day of what was supposed to be a three to four-day celebration. When the police raided the bar, acting on a tip off, they found several youths in an inebriated state, with some even asleep on the stairways due to excessive intoxication. The police detained 40 underage boys and conducted medical tests on them. Tests were not conducted on the around 40 underage girls present. The party, organised by five young men, included between 175 and 180 participants.
