Washington's football team has seen a nearly perfect rookie season for a quarterback quickly turn into a disaster in the past. Ex-NFL star Cam Newton hopes that Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels doesn't travel down the same path.
In a recent sit-down discussion with a well-known Commanders fan, Wale, Newton asked the rapper if he was worried about the possibility of Daniels being the next Robert Griffin III.
"There is nobody who had the game in a chokehold like Robert Griffin III," Newtown said.
"I have to tip my hat to him. For sure [one of the best rookie seasons of all time]. I see that same thing happening for Jayden, and being in that community, do you fear that?"

Wale responded by making it clear there's always a sense of fear when young quarterbacks hit such a high point early on in their career.
"You always fear... We've got PTSD of not winning for so long," Wale said. "We don't even know how to have good things. We don't know what it's like to be like, having five primetime games this year. We don't know! There's a reason why."

After getting selected second overall out of LSU in the 2024 NFL Draft, Daniels was issued the keys to the Washington franchise, which went under new ownership recently.
During his 17-game stint, Daniels didn't look like a quarterback who experienced growing pains. In fact, he put together an MVP-worthy campaign in year one.
"This is the kid from LSU, so we're like, 'Damn, okay, when is the honeymoon over?' It's easy to think like that," Wale added. "But, I've got to believe in the new organization, new GM, they've got plans for the new stadium. We're going in the right direction and trying to right them wrongs for so many years."

Jayden Daniels #5 of the Washington Commanders celebrates with Terry McLaurin #17 after defeating the Detroit Lions 45-31 in the NFC Divisional Playoff at Ford Field on January 18, 2025 in Detroit, Michigan. The rookie completed nearly 70 percent of his passes for 3,568 yards. He tossed for 25 touchdowns and just nine interceptions. Along with his passing, Daniels rushed 148 times for 891 yards. He collected another six touchdowns on the ground.
The one-time Pro Bowler and reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year will enter the 2025 NFL season with major pressure to perform as well, if not better, than he did during his rookie season in Washington. Considering it was one of the best rookie campaigns in the league's history, according to Newton, Daniels is staring at a tall task to accomplish.

Despite resumed talks, no progress between Bengals and Trey Hendrickson

Since the report of the Cincinnati Bengals and Trey Hendrickson resuming talks about a possible contract extension, there really hasn't been much else to report. There hasn't been any real progress reported for the two sides to come to an agreement. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler appeared on ESPN this weekend and said that despite the communication being reopened, the Bengals and Hendrickson are 'not any further along.' Advertisement As training camp draws near, one would think both sides would be motivated to get something done before the real preparation for the regular season begins. The Bengals have made it clear that they want Hendrickson in the fold, really not entertaining any trade offers this spring or summer. Hendrickson made it clear that his motivations in seeking a new deal are long-term security and guaranteed money. With him set to turn 31 this regular season, it sounds as if the Bengals prefer shorter deals that protect the team if his production slips. Coming off of back-to-back 17.5 sack seasons, the leverage may not favor Hendrickson the way he would hope, but the Bengals almost certainly want to put the distractions behind them before camp opens later this month. Both sides will have to give in to an extent, but hopefully something can be worked out so the 2024 NFL sack leader can rejoin the team and hopefully help right the ship of the Bengals' defense. Can 'Powerful' Haason Reddick Be Difference Maker For Buccaneers?

Can 'Powerful' Haason Reddick Be Difference Maker For Buccaneers? originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season hummed along in the second half of the year with the offense flying, but it was the defense that struggled at times, and in particular, the pass rush. Advertisement With no defender surpassing 7.5 sacks, Tampa Bay knew it needed a premier pass-rusher to join the likes of Calijah Kancey, Vita Vea, Logan Hall, and Yaya Diaby. Enter Haason Reddick. After a four-year stretch where he was one of the most consistent pass rushers in football, Reddick now finds himself in Tampa Bay, and The Athletic thinks the veteran could be quite the addition to Todd Bowles' defense. "Haason Reddick had only one sack last season and skipped some offseason workouts, which led to uncertainty about his ability to impact the defense," The Athletic writes. "But Reddick's presence at minicamp was powerful. Reddick, who had 50 1/2 sacks between 2020 and 2023, hasn't forgotten how to get to the quarterback, even though he had an awful 2024 with the Jets. Advertisement "The expectation on this team is Reddick will have a productive season — and help teammates do the same." Jun 11, 2025; Tampa, FL, USA; Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Haason Reddick (5) talks with media after minicamp at One Buc Place.© Kim Klement Neitzel-Imagn Images Seen as potentially the final piece of the defensive puzzle, Reddick will be playing for a new contract in 2025, having signed only a one-year deal, so motivation will be high. We aren't worried about Baker Mayfield and the offense, but can the defense stiffen up with Reddick, Kancey, and Vea all getting after the quarterback to help protect the secondary? That will be the hope. And if the Reddick who terrorized the NFL from 2020 through to 2023 suits up for the Buccaneers, he might just be the best free-agent addition of the offseason. Advertisement Yes, that's a high bar, but make no mistake, the talent is there, and Bowles and his coaching staff will make sure Haason goes quarterback-hunting in 2025. Related: 'Fearless!' Packers RB Josh Jacobs lands just outside top 5 of insiders RB rankings

Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs is coming off a Pro Bowl season in 2024 but still ended up just outside the top five in a ranking of NFL running backs compiled by ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, who talked with coaches, executives and scouts to rank players at every position entering the 2025 season. The ranking is less a snub for Jacobs and more a commentary on the depth of impactful players at the running back position in the NFL. Jacobs, who signed a $48 million deal with the Packers ahead of the 2024 season, finished at No. 6 in the ranking -- trailing Saquon Barkley, Derrick Henry, Jahmyr Gibbs, Bijan Robinson and Christian McCaffrey. He moved up one spot from last year, when he ranked No. 7 overall. One voter had Jacobs as high as the third-best running back. And one NFC executive called Jacobs a "true difference-maker." "Elite balance, strength, vision, feet and determination with the ball in his hands," the executive told Fowler. "He catches it well. True difference-maker. And he plays every week. Availability. I tend to lean toward well-rounded backs that are elite runners and huge threats in the passing game and Jacobs fits that bill." Last season, Jacobs rushed 301 times for 1,329 yards and 15 touchdowns while also catching 36 passes for 342 yards and his first career receiving touchdown. He ranked sixth in the NFL in rushing yards and yards from scrimmage, fourth in rushing touchdowns and fifth in total touchdowns. According to Pro Football Focus, Jacobs ranked third in missed tackles forced (79), fourth in rushing grade (91.3) and third in receiving grade (89.2) among running backs in 2024. Per Fowler, Jacobs is the only player to produce at least 1,000 total yards and five total touchdowns during each of the last six seasons, highlighting not only Jacobs' ability as a runner and receiver but also his availability despite playing a punishing position. Jacobs set a career high with 16 total touchdowns in 2024, his first season in Green Bay. He finished 11th in NFL Offensive Player of the Year voting and made his third Pro Bowl. In 2022, Jacobs led the NFL in rushing yards and yards from scrimmage during a first-team All-Pro season. With better blocking up front in 2025, Jacobs could threaten for the rushing title once again. Still only 27 years old, Jacobs has over 1,800 total touches in the NFL. The key for the Packers will be getting him healthy and fresh after a season in which he touched the football 358 total times, including the playoffs. Former Packers running back Aaron Jones, whom Jacobs replaced in 2024, didn't make the top 10 but was an honorable mention.
