LAHAD DATU: Marine police have uncovered a crude palm oil (CPO) misappropriation syndicate worth RM2.29 million after raiding an illegal storage facility at Batu 15 along Jalan Lahad Datu-Sandakan. Sabah Region Four Marine Police Commander ACP Mohd Nazri Ibrahim said the raid on July 25 at 12.50pm led to the discovery of 77,590kg of CPO. Officers also seized two trucks, a van, and an oil storage tank during the operation. Five Malaysians and a foreign national, aged between 20 and 53, were detained to assist with investigations under the Malaysian Palm Oil Board Regulations 2005. Govt takes frequent action on illegal foreign ownership of small businesses, says Nga
KUALA LUMPUR: More than 3,000 enforcement operations have been carried out against the involvement of foreign nationals at business premises operated by local councils, says Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming. Since 2023, Nga said, 14,384 compound notices had been issued, 23 licences cancelled and 2,880 premises seized for various offences. This includes the illegal transfer of licences and permits to foreign nationals, he said in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday (July 28). Local authorities' jurisdiction is limited only to inspecting a premises' licence. He also said local councils have never permitted foreign nationals to apply for or own trading licences, involving small trader licences, business premises, sundry shops, restaurants, workshops and markets. Mohd Hasnizan Harun (PN-Hulu Selangor) had asked about the ministry's efforts in tackling the issue of foreign nationals running businesses, especially sundry shops. He also asked about steps taken against businesses registered under Malaysians but fully run by foreign nationals. Nga urged MPs with evidence of foreign nationals running businesses to provide him with the details.

Foreigner held for assault in Tawau

Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the suspect was taken to the Tawau District Police Headquarters for further questioning. Police also confiscated a long iron rod believed to have been used as a weapon in the attack. The incident reportedly stemmed from a misunderstanding between the victim and the suspect at a workshop in the area. The altercation turned violent when the suspect allegedly struck the victim with the metal rod, causing injuries. Negligence of Pan Borneo contractor blamed

BEAUFORT: A motorcyclist escaped serious injury or worse due to the alleged negligence of the Pan Borneo Project contractor, who failed to place proper warning signs near a pothole, recently. The accident occurred at Kampung Naluyan, Mesapol Sipitang, along the Pan Borneo Highway (Sindumin–Melalia stretch). According to an eyewitness, Abdillah AJ, the victim, identified as Bakar Januddin, crashed into a deep pothole at approximately 11:30 am. Abdillah said he was on his way back from Sipitang and had just reached Kampung Naluyan, near the junction to Kampung Lubok Darat, when he witnessed the motorcyclist veer off and fall into the roadside hole. 'Fortunately, some passersby noticed the incident and helped the victim out of the hole. He was rushed to the hospital, but his motorcycle was badly damaged,' Abdillah said. The victim sustained a fractured right arm. The witness stressed that no warning signs or signal lights were placed at the location to alert road users of the hazard. 'I've seen too many accidents caused by the carelessness of the Pan Borneo highway contractors. It's costing people their safety,' he added. Residents living along the stretch between Sipitang and Lumadan want the government, particularly the Public Works Department (JKR), to closely monitor the road conditions and ensure the contractor fulfills safety obligations. Sipitang District Police Chief Supt Awang Anak Suanda said police have received a report from the victim's family. 'The victim must file a formal report at the police station to proceed with claims against the Public Works Department and the responsible parties for the damages incurred,' he said.
